NOT THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN, ANI!
In this video, we will watch STAR WARS: EPISODE II - ATTACK OF THE CLONES for the first time!
ABOUT STAR WARS: EPISODE II - ATTACK OF THE CLONES
The story is set ten years after The Phantom Menace, as thousands of planetary systems slowly secede from the Galactic Republic and join the newly-formed Confederacy of Independent Systems, led by former Jedi Master Count Dooku. With the galaxy on the brink of civil war, Obi-Wan Kenobi investigates a mysterious assassination attempt on Senator Padmé Amidala, which leads him to uncover a clone army in service of the Republic and the truth behind the Separatist movement. Meanwhile, his apprentice Anakin Skywalker is assigned to protect Amidala and develops a secret relationship with her. Soon, the trio witness the onset of a new threat to the galaxy: the Clone Wars.

Funny things.. the plaza you identified as "definitely Italy" is actually a location in Spain. For Naboo they shoot in Spain, and in Italy. The "lake region" is actually lake como ( or lake Garda never remember which one they shoot in) and some of the palace interior are shot in Italian royal palaces

And Filoni got it straight from Lucas. So yeah, that's the story. Straight from the source.
@GrapeCheckerBoard
@GrapeCheckerBoard 9 месяцев назад
No, Filoni came up with that himself. Lucas has never stated or implied that Anakin would have had a better handle on his problems if Qui-Gon had survived and taught him. Sidious would still be around, trying to undermine Anakin’s trust in the Jedi even if Qui-Gon was Anakin’s teacher. Sidious would always be telling Anakin the flattering thing and tempting Anakin with the easy way, while Qui-Gon would be telling Anakin what he needed to hear. And really, despite what fandom claims, there’s no indication that Qui-Gon is so different from the Jedi that his lessons would be all that uh, different from what Obi-Wan or Yoda provided.
@WJS774
@WJS774 7 месяцев назад
@@GrapeCheckerBoard Apart from how we are told that Qui-gon repeatedly _clashed_ with the Jedi Council, you mean? And that he wouldn't have been a "big brother" to Anakin, he would have been a father figure. Obi-wan was just too young to train a problem case like Anakin right after he finished his own apprenticeship, and too young to be a father figure to him. Without Qui-gon, That role was taken by Palpatine.

I love Anakin here, the way George was not shy to made him a full teenager with all the problems and flaws of his age plus the traumas of his past. Also, George was very vocal about Anakin and Padme's romance being very diferent from the Han and Leia romance going more towards a classic 40's movie romance, that's why most people see it as cheesy, but I think it works wonders here, we're in a less cinical age.
@Y34HT045T
@Y34HT045T Месяц назад
Yeah, I feel like audiences called it "bad writing" because they figured "well, anakin is the hero, so we're supposed to root for him, so tis is a badly written romance because it's creepy and stalker-ish and weird." But like. That's the POINT. It's intentionally written as a very UNHEALTHY relationship between two people with VERY different values. Padme's fatal flaw is she tries to see the good in people TO A FAULT. She's so convinced that she can bring out the good in Anakin, that her love for him will be enough, that she doesn't realise how far he's fallen until it's far, FAR too late.
@cowboys8897
@cowboys8897 Месяц назад
@Y34HT045T I agree. Anakin was not creep or a stalker. This criticism is an exaggeration. Yes, he came on to her strongly but in the fireplace scene when she says that they can't be together. Anakin backs off saying she's right and that being together will destroy them even though he really doesn't believe that. After this, Anakin doesn't bring up feelings again until later when Padme confesses her love for him.

The romance between Anakin and Padme being awkward makes a lot of sense. Anakin was first a slave and worked as a child. He then joined a monastic order than basically forbade intimate human interaction. Padme served her people from a very young age and was burdened with responsibilities up to and including a war. Then she became a Senator where she continued serving her people. What experience did either of them have in intimate human interaction?

@Slashycent
@Slashycent Год назад
Yess, one of my favorite episodes. It's all coming together nicely. A few things: Keira Knightley's Padmé-decoy was called Sabé. The decoy who was killed at the beginning of this film was called Cordé and you should be nice to her. >:( I find it very funny that you find Master Windu, of all people, to be too positive lol. He's known to be kind of a hater. His saber is purple because Sam Jackson asked for it, so that he could stand out and find himself in the big battle scene lol. Obi Wan undoubtedly lacks Qui-Gon's authority and is very clearly in over his head with Anakin in a way his master wouldn't have been. At least not to the degree that the council's young, inexperienced poster boy Kenobi is. He's just such a boy scout. Qui-Gon was a free-thinking maverick, just like Anakin, and a strong figure of authority with a real presence. Meanwhile, Kenobi goes down on Anakin's level, making them feel like bickering brothers at times when Anakin truly needed a father. Qui-Gon also encouraged Anakin, freely shared his wisdom and openly believed in him, unlike Kenobi, who _does_ care deeply for him but is more sceptical, critical and reserved, making Anakin think that he doesn't believe in him and is holding him back from reaching his true potential. So Qui-Gon's death left a void in Anakin's life that needed to be filled by a strong and wise figure of fatherly authority, who believes in him, encourages him and makes him feel like he can share his problems without having to fear judgement and Kenobi struggles, if not _fails_ , to take on that role. Unlike Chancellor Palpatine... The English voice actor for Dex the diner owner didn't actually have that many other notable roles. In the German dub, he's voiced by the same guy who did Mr. Krabs from SpongeBob though. The Stormtroopers aren't Clones. Due to their accelerated aging, the Clones we see in these films would've been too old for that. Hayden Christensen is an amazing actor and I love how much you appreciate his performance as Anakin. It was actually super hated by the mainstream because it was too "awkward", "uncomfortable" and "whiny". In other words: He was hated for playing the character too well lol. Such a dumb "criticism". He perfectly portrayed the complex, tortured and sensitive young man that George envisioned. The hate also reeks of toxic masculinity. Anakin was soft, emotional and somewhat feminine, not the cool badass murder machine Darth Vader or the smooth playboy Han Solo, so he obviously had to suck, right? And he's _romantic_ , ugh. He talks about kisses and hearts and being tortured by love, what a whuss. In truth, Anakin is a more layered, complex, realistic and fascinating character than the narrow-minded mainstream deserved at the time and Hayden's performance is to this day underrated. His little facial expressions are godly. His timbre is modelled after James Earle Jones, the original Vader voice. He's funny, he's cute, he's scary, he's perfect. You really just _understand_ the film the way it was intended. The fact that Anakin and Obi Wan very clearly love each other even though they fight a lot. The fact that Anakin was dangerously charming and tempting to Padmé the whole time and that they're unfortunately an incredibly cute and perfectly problematic couple. The fact that she essentially replaced his mother in a bit of a Freudian ordeal. The fact that he was never quite free. You say the story feels like a classical tragedy. _It is_ . And it's about to enter its final act. You thought this film was sad? Oh boy. A storm is coming. And it can't come quick enough! ;D

About the sequels: The biggest issue to me is that they're just not part of Lucas's vision. In fact, two thirds of the trilogy were made by a man, J.J. Abrams, who openly disliked half of Lucas's saga (namely the prequels) and went on a nostalgic crusade to try and redo the original trilogy to "make Star Wars great again!" The other director was a little more open and wanted to include some of his own meta commentary on the series but still ended up mostly just copying the original trilogy as well. It just no longer felt like an authentic story the way it did under Lucas, more like a deeply meta, self-canibalizing corporate remake of half of his work. Regressive, repetitive and just plain unnecessary in my opinion.

How correct you are, Obi Wan may have believed in the concept of the ‘Chosen One’ but he didn’t believe in the man (Anakin). As Dave Filoni said what Anakin needed was family, and unfortunately the Jedi couldn’t give him that. The few times when Anakin did feel free is when him and Padme had some good times together during the clone wars. The Jedi had become too dogmatic, rigid, and too detached from the people of the Republic. If you saw ‘Tales of the Jedi’ you can see how many had lost trust in the Jedi, they saw them as lapdogs of a corrupt senate.

It's not "Quy Gone" (although the worplay works perfectly), it's Qui Gon (with a Q). "Kwaï Gone" if you want. Anakin is clearly out of line despite being tactically correct. As you noticed, Obi Wan is also very uptight, Qui Gon would have been more understanding and more able to deal with Anakin's psyche and find the right words to tell him. In the deleted scenes on Naboo, Padmé shows Anakin her bedroom with all her memorabilia. She show him portraits of her in her humanitarian missions before she became queen. She really loves lost causes and damaged people. Obi Wan will be a sassy ahole to Anakin for four years straight during the Clone Wars, nicknamed the Master of Trolling or the Master of Sass. It's quite fun to watch. Naboo is the planet, the city is called Theed. And the circular plaza is none other than a CGI modification of the Plaza de Espania in Sevilla. Funny how being appointed Senator could in fact be seen as promotion, since you get closer to the Galactic center of power and its inner workings, despite not taking care of your own people directly, you still gain in influence and contacts. Anakin complies with Padmé because despite her scouldering, her reasoning is tactically sound. Remember Obi Wan saying to Luke that Anakin was a "cunning warrior" (in French they way "a brilliant tactician". Clone Troopers are not stormtroopers. Clones are much better trained overall. (but much more expansive so when the war ended, they were replaced by conscripts...) The clones are copies of a Mandalorian warrior, there is no better human template than a Mandalorian for a clone army. You might be one of the two or three who actually call out Padmé for her BDSM outfit in front of a horny and damaged teenager... That's not being romantic, that's beeing obsessive. Obsession is NOT a good thing. It's the mark of codependancy, not something you want to cultivate for a sane relationship. Watto probably sold Shmi to pay some debt... I urge you to listen to Phantom Menace OST, Anakin's theme and the end credits in their entirety, pay close attention at the very end... Ani's theme becomes Darth Vader's in foreshadowing. For context, humans on Tatooine learn to distrust and hate Tusken Raiders becaus they are dangerous. Anakin's prejudice is sort of understandable. About 187 Jedi died that day in the arena, just saying... Remember Return of the Jedi, Luke cuts the arm and it shows electrical circuits... the arm was already cut off once, like here... A Greek tragedy you say? Exactly that it is ! Can't wait for your next reaction. Obi Wan blaming himself... "I thought I could train Anakin as well as Yoda, I was wrong."

@@darthgrievous8055the clones made the transition to stormtroopers before being decommissioned by the empire, in the legends lore it’s explained that they weren’t on their prime no more after some years of transitioning to stormtroopers and there were no more clone production lines so they just recruited normal people. In the new canon you can see it on the last episodes of clone wars where some clones already have stormtrooper armor even before order 66. By the time ep4 rolls around, most stormtroopers are normal recruited people but the one’s that are under command of darth vader (501st legion) remain clones as he couldn’t trust normal soldiers so he kept his old squad up lol
@darthgrievous8055
@darthgrievous8055 11 месяцев назад
@@luisga9352 yeah, that’s great that that’s what happened in Legends, except that’s DEFINITELY not what happened in canon, which you’d know if you’d watched Rebels or Bad Batch. It was a major plot point in Bad Batch about how the clones were decommissioned and replaced with stormtroopers. Also, we never see any clones wearing stormtrooper armor before Order 66 in Clone Wars. Hell, even months AFTER the rise of the Empire, stormtrooper armor is still radically different from how it looks later.
@luisga9352
@luisga9352 11 месяцев назад
@@darthgrievous8055 also in canon. My bad about the armor, I thought the ahsoka inspired helmets from the 332nd squad resembled stormtroopers but I was wrong. Still it’s considered that the first squads of imperial stormtroopers were clones, a fast read through star wars wiki page of canon stormtroopers can clarify that. I understand that in bad batch the clones were feeling bad that these new wave of troopers were replacing them, but for the general public in the galaxy every soldier was a stormtrooper regardless if it was clone or enlisted or how they felt of each other.

Anakin's love morphs to become something toxic and possessive rather than the true compassion he aspires to have, but honestly, was he ever set up for anything else? The Jedi Order were so rigid and dogmatic by this time that they were unwilling to budge an inch in regards to Anakin's deep feeling of connection to others. They told him to essentially deny a part of himself thst could have been healthy for him, and when he just couldn't anymore, it came out and was expressed in a way that he had no practice with and had no guidance for how to channel positively. As far as he can see, the Jedi never let him free his mother, never let him find romance, and never took his visions seriously. He's grasping for whatever he can manage to find for himself because his soul is broken without it. And he's flying blind.

Dooku is a Sith Lord named Darth Tyranus, he was Qui Gon's teacher and friend, like Qui Gon, he gradually became disillusioned with the Jedi Council and after Qui Gon's death at the hands of Darth Maul, he left the order, soon after which he was recruited by Sidious as his disciple, which he needed after Maul's defeat. Dooku, with the help of his influence, pushed many systems that were disappointed in the corruption of the senate of the republic, which was collapsing under its weight, to revolt and demand independence, as a result, these systems will become a Confederation of Independent Systems or an alliance of the Separatists. Thus, the Sith have organized a war in which they control both sides, having the ability to create chaos to gain more power. Dooku suggested that Obi Wan kill Sidious just to take his place with Obi Wan as his disciple, for this is the way of the Rule of Two. The entire conflict, which lasted for several years and was called the Clone Wars, can be seen in the magnificent animated series Clone Wars, which takes place between the second and third episode

SO MANY questions about Star Wars are answered throughout the series... It also goes into depth of different characters that just seem to be extras in the movies... PLUS... It introduces fans to Anakin's padawan, who evolves into one of the most popular, and most developed character in the entire franchise...

When they met, Padme was 14 years old. She was a young queen, but not the youngest in Naboo history. On Naboo a queen is elected for a specific term before a new queen is elected, so it is normal that she has moved on from being queen to other civil service. Anakin was 9 years old at the time of their meeting. Obviously he was still physically a little boy whereas she had already hit puberty and a growth spurt making the age gap seem greater. In this movie, set 10 years later, Anakin is a typical moody 19 year old. He whines and complains like a teen, he bucks authority, his emotions drive his decisions, etc. I think his dialog, as awkward as it is some times, portrays the brooding awkwardness of an angst-ridden teen. Padme, having gone from queen to senator, is far more mature and grounded as a 24 year old in this movie. She has a decade of political experience and has carried the responsibility of her planet's well-being from her youth. Again, at this age, five years age difference is not so scandalous. Admittedly they are a mismatched couple when it comes to their level of maturity, but all involved are fully adult and able to make their own choices (as ill-advised as those choices might be).

funny thing about Obi Wan being a goodie-two-shoes. in the book "Master and Apprentice", when Obi-Wan was an initiate before being selected to be taught by a master, he was known for always breaking the rules, talking back, and just being an overall trouble maker. it was only when he was paired with Qui-Gon, a known maverick to the standards of the Jedi, that Obi-Wan started to actually follow the Council. it was always in his nature to contrast his mentors. like master like padawan lol
