Wow, congrats man! What an amazing achievement. I dont know you but I'm proud of you man. Are you super burnt out or are you psyched to do another soon? Isn't it humbling to realize how much work all this is ...and that's when the music is already written! I cannot fathom having to compose and orchestrate all this from scratch, staring at a few hundred blank sheets music when all you have is a couple of rough melodies in your head. Millions of dollars at stake, immense audience expectations, no pressure. Sheesh. And he did 9 of these Star Wars films! Im going to crawl under my rock now, unworthy to tie JW's shoes, haha.
What a lovely message! Thanks so much! I really appreciate the support. I'm surprisingly OK mentally and can't wait to deep dive further into some really specific things like woodwind voicings and brass voicings etc, It really is humbling that JW writes this way - all fully orchestrated with very little left to the 'orchestrator' who really just has to transpose and copy. Yes - absolutely unbelievable when none of the melodies are unbidden and all have to worked from scratch (at least that's what JW tells us). And what themes and harmony they are! Simply perfect. Thanks so much again - it'll be Return of the Jedi up next season...
What a fascinating video to listen to. One for the weekend while working in the garage. I have been listening to this since 78 and never picked up any errors... Thank you for your efforts.
There's a similar one in the Desert as well ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gsF8wI68oA4.html Oboe should play an Fb but so out of tune it sounds OK - when Horns come in they reveal what it should have sounded like.... Absolute pleasure!
Regarding the inaudible horns at the end. They are not in the live to picture edition of the score and are not present in the original recording. I have only seen them in the concert suite score, which means they were either originally in but taken out before recording, or they were never in and miscopied into the concert suite. Either way it sounds better without them. In the concert suite they stick out so bad no matter how much the conductor tries to balance them. It's like getting poked in the eye.
