STAR WARS Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983) Movie REACTION 

I'm really happy the two of you went down this journey. It's fantastic that Sophie wasn't spoiled for basically any of the twists, which is a rarity and a gift to see someone's genuine reaction for the first time. And Mair was a perfect ambassador for the movies, enjoying them with her without feeling the urge to spoil things, and letting her discover things at her own pace. That can be a hard thing to do when you show something to someone for the first time, especially something like Star Wars. You've both done a fantastic job, and I look forward to seeing you react to the other movies in the future.

So, Harrison Ford didn’t want to come back for the third movie. He wanted to be killed off in Empire, that’s where they came up with the idea to freeze him. Obviously they convinced him to come back, but it must’ve been pretty late, which explains three things: 1. Why the opening act is such a convoluted plan to rescue him that adds nothing to the film, 2. Why Han Solo is a shell of his usual self, being more of a clumsy fool than daring and suave, and; 3. Why Lando has the Millenium Falcon for the whole movie- Lando was meant to take Han’s place of Harrison didn’t come back.

I was 13 years old in 1977 when I saw the original Star Wars and 16 Years Old in 1980 when I saw Episode V and was 19 Years old in 1983 when I Saw Episode VI The Return Of The Jedi in the Movie Theatre, Anakin Skywalker was the Jedi that returned, Everyone in the Theatre gasped when it was revealed that Leia was Luke's Sister, In the original version of the film Darth Vader does not scream no before turning on the emperor. Darth Vader just Looks back and forth until He silently grabs the Emperor. Everyone in the Theatre cheered, In the original version the force Ghost of Anakin was the Actor we saw when the Mask was removed.

When Leia says “she knows” she doesn’t mean it literally. She means it in the sense she always knew that they were connected somehow through the force

So, the reason Luke's new lightsaber is green is an artistic one: because against the backgrounds of Tatooine, green was a better color visually than blue. The franchise would go on to establish a full palette of lightsaber colors, with implied lore that certain colors are more difficult to produce than others (similar to modern lighting technology, some of which requires rare elements). The association of red lightsabers with The Dark Side is just that -- an association, because the latter _intentionally chose_ to make it their signature color.

Great reaction guys......this was the episode I 1st loved growing up, its mad seeing how it progressed as there is loads more digitally with this version than the original. You guys have to do episodes 1-3 next 🤞 keep up the hard work guys 👊🇬🇧

Sophie, you really need to watch Episodes 1, 2, and 3. It will really help fill in all the gaps in the storyline, plus it completes the whole Skywalker Journey Even though one of the sequel movies is titles "Rise of Skywalker" it really has nothing to do with the journey of the Skywalker Saga. 7, 8, and 9 are completely seperate from the Original 6 movies, and i would watch them with a grain of salt.

They filmed the Sail Barge scene intending for Luke to have a new blue saber, but it didn’t show well against the blue sky.

I made this comment on another reaction video as well: I don't know how old you are, but here are 2 things about this movie which shows how much times have changed in 40 years: first, the bridge scenes with Admiral Ackbar were filmed twice. Once with Ackbar and the Calamari, and once with General Madine. This is because a lot of these effects were brand new, and untested, and they didn't know how well they would look on film. so in case it looked too fake, the backup with a human crew would be used. Secondly, ratings in the States were very different. There was no "PG-13" rating, so a movie would be either PG, or R (nothing in between). Scenes with female Rebel pilots were filmed, but at the time, the death of female soldiers in anything but a documentary of a real war would have given it an "R" rating (despite the fact that the ships explode, and there is no gore or graphic violence). One brief clip of a female is still in the movie (The A-Wing pilot who says "Got 'em" just before getting shot down by 2 TIE interceptors right after Wedge says "Red 2, pull in"), but it was dubbed with a male voice I think young people today don't understand how things have changed. In fact, it was another Lucasfilm film ("Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom") along with "Gremlins" that made the ratings purveyors decide to include another rating to go between "PG" & "R" Also, the space battle was epic. It was all practical, and mostly had to be shot one subject at a time and superimposed together. Painstaking work, and I personally don't think a fleet space battle effect has beat it for complexity and yet simplicity (CGI fleets look like cookie cutter cut-outs to me)

Yeah, the prequels are basically Darth Vader's backstory so I'd suggest those next.

You guys should watch the tv show "Obi Wan" and then the movie Rogue 1", after these. They show why everyone is terrified of Darth Vader, and also give a lot of character backstory to Vader and Obi Wan's relationship.

Vader's hesitation to intervene is because he knew that his suit was vulnerable for the emperors powers so the apprentice don't shall be able to take his master's place.

Believe it or not, Luke in the EU is what Anakin could have been: A very powerful Force user and Jedi. Edit: As for Vader teaming up with Luke to kill Palpatine, it's not too far off from how the Sith of the past would be masters.

One thing I never understood was Vader not sensing Leia or Luke earlier. Like he had Leia prisoner and nothing.

its more apparent in the books but since Leia is also force sensitive like Luke when she choked Jabba she was using the force which granted her much more strength than a normal human woman would have. the Hutts were known for strength and normally you would be correct in thinking she couldnt kill Jabba but she is the daughter of Anakin Skywalker and very powerful in the force even when not trained.

I've always hated the addition of "Noooo" when Vader throws the emperor. They should have left that part, more than any of the other changes, alone.

Star Wars has Episodes 1-9

So this IS episode 6, yes, but movies 4, 5 and 6 came out first. It wasn’t originally planned for them to be 4, 5 and 6, that’s just something George Lucas decided arbitrarily to do when he made Empire Strikes Back, to make it seem like we were picking up in the middle of a much larger story. A New Hope wasn’t even called that when it first came out, it was just called “Star Wars”. There was no sequel planned, Darth Vader wasn’t Luke’s father, Leia wasn’t his sister. That all got written for the sequels. Episodes 1, 2 and 3 came out in 1999, 2002 and 2004. The sequel trilogy began in 2015. And there is a TON of content that fills in the gaps. An animated show called Clone Wars, another called Rebels (highly recommended if you can get over the art style and get past the first weaker batch of episodes), The Mandalorian which takes place 5 years after Return of the Jedi, Rogue One which takes place immediately before A New Hope, Andor which sets up Rogue One… and so much more. If I were you, I’d jump directly into The Mandalorian now. Then, go back and start with The Phantom Menace. Watch the prequel trilogy, then Rebels, then Andor, then Rogue One. Then watch Clone Wars if you want, it has its ups and downs. Obi-Wan Kenobi isn’t a great show, they mess with the lore too much and break some things that will only confuse you.

Well 4 5 6 are the story, 1 2 3 is the prequels, these six make the Skywalker saga, the main story

You probably have the answer by now, but in 1997 they went back and edited these movies to spruce them up with computer effects and some other stuff. Return of the Jedi got the worst of it with that entire musical number. That wasn’t in the original. They made some good changes though, like the sky in the cloud city in empire- it used to be a dull boring grey.

Yeah ok, this really convinced me that Hayden Christensen is completely out of place here if you don't start with Episode 1-3. Chronological order wins. I still respect the fans who prefer to introduce Star Wars to someone with Episode 4. All right, now I'm off to Episode 1 with y'all.
