So that scorpion boss calls himself... サソリベイダー, Sasorivader, which translates to... Scorpionvader. I've looked for some info and there seems to be more vaders like Gyaosuvader (which turns into some sort of dragon), Cladosvader (which turns into a shark) and Wampavader (which turns into... a wampa from Empire Strikes Back). The worst part is thad I'm not joking at all about this...
+crashinator1 IIRC, they're changelings. There's also an old interview that claims them to be "illusions representing Luke's fears, like the Cave of Evil scene in Empire Strikes Back". But indeed, we have a Scorpion, a pterosaur, a shark and a Wampa. You fight the real deal twice in the game.
The more I watch this series, the more I really appreciate Mike (or whoever is editing) inserting clips from whatever they're referencing and annotations on things they either missed or weren't clear enough on.

@@willc5405 "At last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi. At last we will have revenge" The only reason he even HAD this line was because it was in the trailer :P
+Kyle Pittman Irvin Kershner directed the best episode of all time, and due to fond childhood memories and nostalgia, there will never be another. There can only be a continuation of an amazing story of characters were future generations can have the opportunity to fall in love with, as we did.
Kyle Pittman Yeah. Hopefully Disney will run Star Wars like they allow Marvel to run Marvel. It makes a lot more sense for movie franchises for the directors to have some freedom but not to the extent that is normal in Hollywood. As you said the way TV-series are typically done where the writers and showrunners are top dogs rather than the directors.
I read a leaked synopsis of The Force Awakens and it turns out that it's just a remake of Star Wars with a bit of Empire and Jedi mashed in there, but the general plot remains as "Main character finds important droid, leaves desert planet with Han Solo, learns about Force, captured by the bad guys, escapes to Rebel base, things main character duels main villain, things reach their darkest point, Rebels blow up superweapon, the end). There are some points where it feels very obviously J.J. Abrams-ish (especially concerning the characters and nuances of the plot itself, ESPECIALLY the ending). Also, the Force never really awakens at all...the Force is barely even in the movie.
Actually, Lucas wrote a super long screenplay that encompassed the storyline of the entire trilogy. He was told that it was too long and cut his 3 act story into 3 separate parts; each act being padded out into it's own film. He was influenced by serials but that had to do with plot elements in this case, not the structure of the films.
I remember that time Darth Vader shape shifting into a giant yellow scorpion with the face of a creepy child. Oh wait, this never happened in the films at all?!
DreamcastGuy I had a dream as a kid where luke joined sidious and Vader in conquering the galaxy lol. I swore it was canon growing up as a child since the dream struck me so hard. Now I know the rule of two would never allow it.
+PMRants his son, craig, was a producer, along with bryan, his grandson. craig knew and understood charles' vision of peanuts. he knew and understood what it meant to him. from what the wiki page says for the movie, craig had the idea for the movie, and bryan is a screenwriter and helped him with that. craig is also very protective of peanuts cause he knows what it meant to his dad so they wanted to make it as true and faithful as possible. i saw the movie opening weekend and i'd say they did a hell of a job. i think charles would've been proud.
+PMRants You mean to tell me you have 1,000 subscribers for each video you've put out on your channel, and you're not making more new content? Surely there's enough stuff happening to talk about, and a pleading hungry wallet that can work together to feed me more videos!
+Michael Kuzmanovski Man I was gonna debate that but Jedi Rocks, Jar Jar, The droid factory/3PO, Ewoks, Yub Nub, and midichlorians, I can handle the rest.
Michael Kuzmanovski You make some good points that I agree with, but I was thinking about George Lucas's thoughts on this matter. I find it funny that the guy who thinks the added in CGI made the movies better said this about the Special “If I had the time and a sledgehammer, I would track down every copy of that show and smash it.” And other than that no one involved in the Special ever discusses it.
Namco = Pac-Man, Galaga, Pole Position Beam Software = Back to the Future, Back to the Future Part II & III, George Foreman's KO Boxing Who would you expect to make the better Star Wars game?!
VixXstazosJOB Seeing Yoda fight was just hilarious. The theater room I was in started bursting into laughter after seeing him flop around like a string puppet and make "serious" faces and growl at the camera. No one can take any of that seriously.
+Andrew Jadczak What I figured was in the original trilogy, they probably studied moves from actual fighting styles like Kendo so it didn't just look like dancing with glowsticks.
I was just thinking about how all of the characters from the original Star Wars AND Indiana Jones Sagas were not only killed by Disney, but their children and entire lineage were killed off as well. Seriously, thats just sick.
Chris Beach i dont mind him much, but people mostly dislike him because he is kind of a dumbass and comedic, which people do not seem fit in a movie like this. Weirdly enough most of them do like Ewoks, which are sort of the same.
I hope the Empire isn't too powerful in Episode VII... I mean the Emperor, Vader died and the Death Star blew up, I know there's still a huge amount of soldiers and starships out there, but if the Empire is still really powerful here it'll feel like it lessens the accomplishment in Return of the Jedi.
+Johan Öberg (Protoman85) In Star wars #6 there's a scene where Emperor is talking to these two "illuminati-looking" characters for like 20 seconds and they're never shown again...perhaps the emperor was not really the commander in chief we thought he was. Or or or....Luke Skywalker may be a "bad guy" in this one. I don't think I've seen any trailer for #7 that shows him yet Mark Hamil is IN the movie. In #5 or #6 (I forget), Yoda says Luke is way too old to begin training (although he trains him anyways), but he says that for caution that Luke could transcend to "the dark side". This is kind of reinforced as he says the same thing about Anakin in #1 even though Annakin was just 10 years old. PERHAPS...30 years passing....Luke is the new emperor? Its a stretch. But I am not convinced this Rylo Ken fellow is of any real importance, JJ abrahms like to be very suspenseful.
+ShouldBeStudying Those "illuminati" characters in red? Royal Guards. Nothing of note. Luke Skywalker evil? Probably not. He will probably show as old guy in this movie, which is why Mark Hamil is in it.
+AzzySunfire No, there we these two random old dudes that ol' Palpy started to talk to after he sent Vader down to Endor. My counterpoint to the theory that they are "illuminati-looking" is that, well, Palpatine is the Emperor of the GALAXY. There are many people he would talk to about the day to day business of the galaxy. In both the Legends and current continuities, they are part of the Imperial Ruling Council, the people just under Palpatine power-wise. They are the people who run the day-to-day business of the Empire.
+Johan Öberg (Protoman85) It seems to me that (the original trilogy) was the interesting part. Obviously the Empire wouldn't just collapse, but didn't the power behind it come from the Sith lords running the show? I'm sure the new ones will be decent, at least better than the prequels, but I can't help thinking a lot of it is pretty much going to come down to mopping up the stragglers. Personally I don't think it needs sequels, especially not movies. What I'd do, is release a comic or cartoon that wraps a few things up and sets the stage, then set the next trilogy like 200 years in the future with no direct connection to the other movies.
Check out "Legacy Era". Grand Admiral Thrawn, and that stuff. Sadly that got voided because of these new movies. A movie about the Legacy era would have been cool.
Episode 1 must have been targetted at early teens because when Episode 1 came out I really loved it and my friend who was big into Star Wars also loved it. In general I didn't hear much negativity until few years later.
BuzzKill They are objectively not good.. there are far worst movies and people have right to like them, but we shouldn't forget that most cases of tearing them apart is based on objective analyzes or people at least refer to those.
Mike is truly the angry video game nerd. He cries more than any kid I grew up with when feeling cheated at a game. But his knowledge on everything trivial is insane. You go Mike.
I think Phantom Menace has merit over the other 2 films simply because it actually looks like a movie, it had animatronics, miniature sets and models, it was shot on location all throughout, the dialog scene have actual angles rather than the static ''over-the-shoulder'' formula that plagues the other 2 movies, not to mention it was shot on film, which is already better than Attack of the Clones where you can clearly see the green screen around the actors and Revenge of the Sith which has 0 sets.
Parker Krakowiak By location I mean that they actually built sets for things like the Trade Federation ship, they shot the forest scenes in actual forests and the majority of the Naboo scenes were shot on Italy
+aquelescaraaaaaaaaaa I remember that back in the day it was a big thing and somewhat pioneering in filmmaking that the made episode 2 and 3 all digital. People talket about it and was impressed. It was sort of a tech demo, raising the bar even further and showing what they could do with CGI. Looking back, it feels pretty substanceless.
lol I cannot agree with Attack of the Shit being better than Ep. 1.... 3 is the best, but 2 is by far the worst.... dont be biased just because its got Chris Lee guys. Ep. 1 has the benefit of being the only of the prequels to be shot on location and not entirely on green screen
I totally agree with you, as bad as Ep 1 is it was by far the most memorable of the 3, it had the best light sabre duel at the end and the pod racing scene was pretty damn awesome tbh, I would watch an entire movie about jar jar than have to watch that god awful love scene again in Ep 2 the acting was by far the most painful I have seen in a big budget movie I have ever watched and the fact they destroyed one of the most bad arse characters in the franchise boba fett is just criminal.
+DragonFlameAU 3 is a close second but 2 has no redeeming qualities at all unless u wanna count chris lee swingin a stick at the air, or the factory scene with 3po..... Nah.
Jackson Jack Ms. Portmans navel though. And her sexy revealing outfit. Except Black Swan provides more of that kind of thing while being a way better film already. So yeah, one of the few big budget Hollywood films to literally have no redeeming qualities in it.
+Jackson Jack I only disliked 2 in the fact that Hayden Christensen's acting is garbage. I still like all the Star Wars movies. 3 was on par with the originals in my opinion.
That's also how Lucas got filthy rich, because the studio was so unsure about the film they didn't want to pay Lucas much but instead gave him a sizeable royalty and extensive merchandise licensing rights (to a movie supposed to fail).
9:05 My personal theory is that Luke is hearing about Darth Vader and getting so scared and paranoid, that all threatening creatures Luke faces before hand appear as Darth Vader to him. Pure hallucination.
This playthrough explains why there's no cutscene between Luke arriving at the cantinia and getting on the Falcon because he just jumped his speeder into the back of the Falcon. :)
How strange would it be if they had the Disney logo at the start of the movie with "when you wish upon a star" playing and then it cuts to "A long time ago" and all that.
Oh my, I actually had a joking but same terrifying premonition. They would show the blue wish upon a star blue logo! When I finally got the stomach to go watch episode VII in the theater. (sorry nothing against Disney and it's industry leading work but to me it was like mixing oil and water) I thought to myself "I swear, if I see that blue castle screen come up with that song I AM OUTTA HERE!!!" I would demand my money back and if the theater refused, I would do my worst to contact Disney and tell them where to shove said money! (fortunately the latter never happened WHEW)
In regards to the upcoming Star Wars films being fan fiction, I have a couple of thoughts. I think George Lucas probably gets too much credit for "creating" Star Wars. Gary Kurtz was producer for A New Hope and co-producer for Empire Strikes Back (though he and Lucas had creative disagreements, and he left before Return of the Jedi). He played a big role in focusing the story of the films, and contributed a lot of good ideas while reining in some of Lucas's wackier ones. Then you have Lawrence Kasdan, one of the screenwriters from Empire and Jedi who's coming back to write The Force Awakens. I hate to bring up the prequels, but think about what happened when Lucas made when he had complete creative control over the franchise, I certainly don't consider those films worthy successors to the original Star Wars trilogy, so I think it's reasonable to believe that Star Wars as a franchise doesn't need his stamp.
I'm glad James also sees Star Wars as the story of Anakin Skywalker, really everything that happens in the films from ep 1 to Return of the Jedi has revolved around Anakin. His training, love battles all the way to his shame, regret and sins, then at the crux his redemption, the new movie(s) will be the story of a new generation, I just hope the movie's as true to the Lucas formula as possible. :P
+WavemasterAshi I think people are too hard on Phantom Menace. Attack of the Clones is far worse. Phantom Menace has some amazing action sequences such as the Pod Race, the Duel of the Fates, and some gorgeous background art straight out of sci-fi novel covers for the various cities they go to. I think Hayden's acting and the overall dull quality of Attack make it the worst movie of the prequel trilogy.
+shophet125 Episode II is nearly unwatchable. It had one decent scene that wasn't a rip-off from the original trilogy and the other movies, that Jango/Obi Wan fight.
15:10 "The third (Star Wars) movie was good but everyone just wants to focus on Darth Vader screaming noooo..." I feel the same way about the dancing scene from Spider-Man 3
+TomasGregovich we know now that a lot of the great stuff and story about the originals didnt come from lukas himself, but from his wife and his cowriter. both he ignored in the prequels which sucked and all additions to the franchise made by lukas post release made it worse and worse - so i think it is a very good thing that this franchise is now taken away from him and given a new start - we will see what happens with it, disney proved that they can make great films out of material given to them (see avengers/guardians of the galaxy)
+OneButton Dash Lucas by far didn't do all the work in the older films, he didn't even direct them all. Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope Directed by George Lucas Produced by Gary Kurtz Written by George Lucas Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back) Directed by Irvin Kershner Produced by Gary Kurtz Screenplay by Leigh Brackett and Lawrence Kasdan Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi) Directed by Richard Marquand Produced by Howard Kazanjian Screenplay by Lawrence Kasdanm and George Lucas
taken as a whole so far, for better or worse, the pre-Abrams Star Wars films told the story of the Skywalker legacy. Force Awakens feels like it'll veer away from the Skywalkers
+PatCobraQuest Didn't you see the teaser trailer with Luke narrating? "The force is strong in my family. My father had it. I have it. My sister has it. You have it too". That pretty much spells out "Skywalker legacy" right there, don't you think? (Including, of course, the question of who Luke is talking to with the "you have it too" bit, as he's talking about his family there, so...) They're literally selling it to us on "Skywalker legacy" in that trailer, front and centre. So why do you think it'll veer away from that exactly?
Actually, Luke Skywalker isn't even in the movie at all until the very last scene, it focuses entirely on the girl and the black guy as well as the Ren villain character. Luke doesn't even show up until after Han Solo dies! Whoops, spoiler alert.
for tmnt on NES, you can jump higher with a specific turtle, don't remind which one. so if you couldn't jump high enough, that's because you had the wrong turtle.
Look, for all the people worried about episode 7, just remember they made the avengers under disney. So they can definitely make good movies that aren't cartoons.
Can you get Jontron for the next episode or something? I really loved the rant on the movies when you were giving him a tour. He looks like a very suitable guest for this month :D
I could listen to James and Mike talk about Star Wars (or most things really) for hours, it's just so much fun listening to them talk about this stuff.
When I was a toddler, I had this Star Wars: The Phantom Menace sticker book that I was really afraid of because it had a stern-looking Amidala in full makeup and Darth Maul on the cover. I remember having a nightmare where those two broke into my house and I hid under the dining room table, trying really hard not to cry in fear.
It's weird how Lucas went from a cool indie director who made these crazy films and self-financed V and VI and did all this profit sharing etc. etc. to a bizarre reclusive control-freak nutter. What _happened?_
People stopped having the balls/power/influence to tell him when his shit stinks and he's clearly not good at editing and critiquing his own work. Happens to a lot of creative people who get uber famous. I doubt anybody is pushing George R. R. Martin to edit or change his books, even though they need it. Hell, he's gone on record as hating editors and thinks they're all evil or something, so he probably chucks his editor's invaluable advice right in the trash and nobody can tell him not to. Writers who don't appreciate their editors make me want to cut a bitch.
Also James, the Neimoidian "frog things" weren't CGI. The irony is that Phantom Menace had a huge amount of practical effects, you can Google it if you don't believe me. Eps 2 and 3 seemed to have progressively less 'traditional' effects and went more into CGI and green screen.
I totally disagree that Episode 1 is the worst. At least it had the podrace, and 1 great lightsaber dual. Attack of the Clones is the worst because it had NOTHING. The CG was even more intrusive, the "romance" subplot with Anakin and Padme is one of the worst romances in film history, and the big battle at the end is laughable bad. Just dozens of extras running around on a green screen with prop sabers and no semblance of direction. AND THEY MADE YODA FIGHT...dumbest idea ever and totally ruining of the character. I hate that movie.
Hey Mike, Mumm'ra's saying is "Ancient spirits of evil, transform this decayed form to Mumm'ra the ever living!!" Not evil forces, but love how you brought Thundercats into this!!
Fun fact, the Famicom version is bases off of the Star Wars Manga, or at least that's what I think because the weird Darth Vader scorpion thing appears in it
+xXCigarXx I think in some countries it was called weirdly mechanical orange... yeah, it's weird... the movie itself was amazing! Actually in my country, it's literally translated to Mechanical Orange (Mechanikus narancs).
Spot on for how episode 1 was...so remember that, seeing it day one at midnight and pretty much falling asleep during the movie..but man, it was total shit
+TheKing3234 they're both truly awful, i still think phantom menace is worse. It's just not even a good movie on it's own regardless of it being star wars.
Oh man, it's funny that they talk about Disney Star Wars movies ditching the opening text crawl, when that's exactly what they did with Rogue One and it DID piss off and\or confuse a lot of people.
I don't know about everybody else but I see that there are multiple different versions of Star Wars storylines. Just like comic books for you can have various origin stories and they create their own timeline I believe that Star Wars is the same thing. We have the original trilogy, the Ewok adventures, droids cartoon, expanded universe, etc. then we have everything post special edition up until the Disney acquisition.
About the opening Lucasfilm logo, James, the fact that Lucasfilm has been bought by Disney doesn't mean it doesn't exist anymore. It still does, as well as Pixar and Marvel.
There's actually a fan translation of this game and it also explains why Darth Vader turns into these different animals. They're basically other darths in disguise.
