Update: The transaction seems to have finally shown up on my account. All sorted. Add: "SwitchUpMark" if you're playing this. I always need more friends! I'm the first to admit I do not like the free to play model in general...but...sigh... this might actually be good. Let's find out! Mark
Mark, you know, I was always really skeptical about the F2P model as well, some of those games are just the worst... but then some are really good, even some of the best games I've played. Some of them are surprisingly humane, my favorites are ones that have timed events. You can play during the event to unlock most or all of it, or pay money to "catch up" or get stuff from past events. That being said, this works because I don't have a "completionist" compulsion, and I like slow and steady progress. The exact games that I like, can be huge money sinks for others. Maybe that still makes them bad inherently, I dunno.
Playing through all the forced stuff now but will add you as soon as the game lets me. And yep those so called online early matches being just bots, its so obvious now lol 😆
I just bought a switch for my 35th birthday (maybe a little late to the party). I saw this was free and thought why not grow my library. Thanks for the quick review, definitely helps point you in the right direction.
I'm impressed by the texture work here. I'm so used to seeing stripped out textures from games ported from higher end systems, that aren't replaced with decent alternatives, and it's nice to see what the Switch is really capable of.
My theory is that the game's target console for development was the Switch from the beginning and then ported to smartphone devices. Controls are fantastic and performance is good (but not perfect) despite running on UE.
And I have a reason to believe this cause when I play it on portable mode I didn't have to adjust the acceleration/sensitivity of the thumbsticks like I do for every other shooter game ported to the Switch. It seems the game is calibrated from the start taking consideration of the shorter thumbsticks the joy-cons have compared to normal controllers. That's why I believe the Switch was the intended target hardware from the start.
Really enjoyed my playtime with it. As a big Star Wars fan and mainly Nintendo gamer this has been on my radar ever since it was announced. I really love the art style and would love a standalone single player game spinoff from this. Really hope it finds an audience.
same here I’ve been keeping abs on this since it was noted that it was gonna be coming out, which has been years. finally glad it made it to the switch and I had some worry that it wasn’t going to like evil dead.
this game is phenomenal on iPad and on switch. I like the graphics on both. I suggest they offer cross progression between the two I really like the fact they let me skip tutorials. I always hate doing tutorials. I’m playing on my iPad Pro. Second generation and the graphics are maxed out and everything looks so beautiful. This game definitely has PC quality graphics and doesn’t feel like mobile game. I really suggest they introduce rank as well as other fun game modes similar to Warzone..
Ok so update: It's fixed. They haven't replied to my original message so I'm assuming there was a glitch in the Matrix and it's worked itself out...either that or someone behind the scenes just got kicked 😂
When I see a free mobile game, I won't even touch it unless it has a single player mode or coop vs ai mode because pay to win and time investment will always ruin balance
Actually excited to give this one a go later, looks way better than I ever expected. But man am I with you. I would have easily paid for this one without all the scummy gimmicks. I'm sure itll be one i try out for a few weeks, mostly enjoy, but then drop it for something else because of it. Thanks for the honest review!
@@SwitchUpYt , I hope that they later get all of the paid stuff to people for free later on once the game gets a sizeable fan base, and maybe some gifts for people that paid for them up front at first as well. i would also like for this game to be multi-platform, cross-platform, and allow for LAN and private servers once the official servers inevitably go offline.
Even though it's a free to play title, it looks like there's some good effort put into this. I think the payment glitch is annoying but it will hurt them too if it keeps happening, so they'll probably sort it soon (for everyone). Looks like worth a try but I don't see myself getting hooked up. Thanks for going over it and sharing your thoughts
I just tried this out today, it’s quite fun for me (I’m not a pro gamer or critic) and I think it’s pretty fun for a casual game. I was wondering about bots, I was like “surely I’m not this good in this first match (I suck at these games)” thanks for explaining it!!! Great review!
This is a very good start... I'm loving this And I guarantee the devs will support this game They have the whole Star Wars universe to give characters and planets to fight on Tons of customization hopefully are in the coming future
You'd think after being delayed for so long that the game would offer more game modes and even more maps. I am excited to try this out later, one of the reasons why is because these characters are unique, I feel if this was another game we would be seeing the same familiar faces like Luke, Han Solo, Obi-wan, Grievous. The fact that none of those characters are here makes it....refreshing. I, like you, would rather pay than get the usual F2P experience for the billionth time but despite that, I think I'm going to have a good time...Cheers mate!
I think they implemented the bot system because if you only have one character another person can take it and then you can’t even play. So I think it depends on how many characters you have that determines the amount of real people you can play with and I find this a logical reason why they added the system
Game was fun to play but matches are WAY too short. 25 kills takes roughly 2 minutes. I spend more time looking at my experience bar go up after the match, screen showing my unlocks, queue for a match, select a character, wait for it to load, wait 10 seconds for the match to start and let you out of spawn, play for 2 minutes, repeat. I was actively playing about 15% of my time in game. I know its a mobile game but thats just too much wasted time for me. I felt Splatoon matches were on the short end and their rounds are at least double the length of these.
short rounds are probably due to it being a mobile game as well. games like brawl stars do well because matches are short and fast-paced so its easy to pull out your phone and play a quick match
@eros.1646 True and I did mention that but as a Switch player, if I'm gonna sit on my couch and play a game and I get 6 minutes of gamr time and 30 minutes of login rewards/post match scoreboards/unlocks then it just isn't worth for me. You could bump that kill count to about 50 and have matches be roughly 4-5 minutes long and I'd play it more seriously.
Ever since Evil Mojo and Hi Rez Studios stopped supporting the Switch version of Paladins and I stopped playing that game because of that decision, I really needed a game that could replace it in my Nintendo Switch library. Then this game came along and really piqued my interest. I recently picked it up and played it for an hour, and I’ve immediately fallen in love with it and am really enjoying it. It’s tons of fun to play!
Thanks, Mark. I hate to say that my expectations for a franchise that I was literally born to love (I was named after Mr Skywalker himself) has gotten pretty low over the last few years, but it does seem like they actually put some work into this, and the fact that it’s free to play means I can try it and if I don’t like it, I can walk away no harm no foul.
FPS games usually makes me nauseous, but the camera movement in this game is pretty good/stable. Was able to play for more than 1h without any symptoms. Reminds me of the old Jedi Knights games.
I've been enjoying it so far! For a mobile game running on Switch this is actually really fun, and the monetization is actually pretty reasonable compared to the other live service Star Wars mobile game! Brand new character on a $10 battle pass with additional rewards VS around $300 of premium currency to Day 1 a new character, if you can believe it.
Played an hour - really solid. Switch doesn't have many online shooters in this style so it might be popular in the long run. The microtranscations stuff is overwhelming though - I'm not gunna spend money but the menus are horrible as you said
man i actually really like enjoy this game, 5 minute matches are perfect for a quick game and i can play it on my phone for cross-progression?! that’s dope. also love how the “battle pass” actually has a lot of very cool free cosmetics! including leveling up your characters to get sweet armor-it’s excellent
Looks like Battlefront mini, as if they blended that with the old Battlefield Heros. As a Switch game, I like the idea a lot. I just don't use the Switch enough to use the online services and I'd bet that there's a small user base online on this. I hope it thrives though.
I just got this and it's decent and you are right when you can tell when your fighting bots. Very simplistic game compared old multiplayer ones I used to play when I was into it before stopped playing them. Trying find other multiplayer games on switch I might like. I don't mind not having voice chat, I don't like chat much and living house with family don't want disturb rest of the family
The problem with this game is that it's mobile and switch. I've been playing this on switch and it's great. This needs to hit pc and console. Theres a lot of great here. It's along the lines of what people wanted for battlefront
Got this when it was released but not played it yet. 30 fps doesn't really bother me that much for this tbh. It looks fun. 4 v 4 sounds fine and that means it's not overly confusing to learn. Look fun.
Good timepass for me during work breaks and not having to use my mobile to play is an added bonus.. Glad they released a very optimised multiplayer game for the switch..
This game is freaking awesome and addicting. Super quick pick up and play runs great on the switch. Super responsive controls. I'm addicted if they keep support for a long time. This game can do very well.
Top notch quality review. Wasn't sure about this game, but I always trust you guys to give me an in-depth and relatable review. Keep up the great work gents. ❤❤
Bankster here, check your bank account in a week and confirm the transaction is still there. Sometimes transactions that fail but show on your account will actually just be a, "pre-auth," or, "memo post," rather than a, "hard post," so that it appears the transaction charged through but then it will fall off your account in 1-7 business days. Sometimes it takes longer, but that's rare. Your bank might also confirm if it is a hard post to your account or not if you call.
I am glad to hear it is enjoyable and nice to have a free game. I get the store front objections but also I have had fun with games like asphalt 9. Perhaps this goes on your list of good loading games? (I like your loading game genre- particularly appeals to me as someone who doesn't get a lot of time to play so I always look out for when you say this) Cheers see yah!
Ive been playing since 2021. They work hard. No pay to win.the game is good..like overwatch 3rd person. There's a mode "Huttball" that rocks!!! Hope they bring it to the switch
I'd like to see this game come to ps, and xbox systems as I don't own a phone that can play it, or a switch and it would expand the player base, and bring in more money for the team to improve the game
Right now is probably gonna be the best time to play this game. The atmosphere is casual (everybody sucks because the game's a day old) and the matchmaking is pretty quick. I'm just expecting it'll be one of those games with impressive numbers in the first month or two and then everyone gets bored after that. I hope I'm wrong, I really want this game to last.
I think this game is off to a good start and absolutely worth the play. Yes, i also don't like going in to anything that is obviously trying to prey on the weak mind with all its flash and flair, but the fact that, at this time, it's fully cosmetic is such a breath of relief in terms of these f2p games. I figure thats because it wanted to be a switch game, but normally they're fully p2w. I can get down with pay for convenience, but many games let you completely break the game and you're essentially buying the cheat codes we used to mash buttons to enter in the past. Such a sad state.
It's FTP so its worth a go. I am impressed - runs and controls well on switch. I like shorter games with some more randomness for a quick play, so this works for me. I never stick to online games for weeks on end, I just dip back in every now again - Mario Kart, Splatoon 2, Fall Guys and the golf on Switch Sports. Hope it survives and doesn't get changed too much.
A small gripe I have with the controls is that there’s next to no consistency between which button the abilities for each character are bound to. The most obvious example I found was the grapple hook of Diago and Imara Vex. I think you can rebind these, but I still think it’s very poorly polished in that aspect. Even little things like Zaina not being able to aim, instead having her heal bound to left trigger? It’s just messy
I don't play free to pay games. They should've made something like this with offline and online multiplayer and "they're just cosmetic items" acquired through awards in game after completing quests or in-game currency. Making games like this free to play only, hurts the brand more than help the franchise and gaming industry as a whole.
I just found it on iOS it’s pretty fun I have to admit. Good play is rewarded and bad play is punished harshly it’s one of those the players make the game games.
Quite surprised by this game I wasn’t too sure what to expect from it other than I was thinking an overwatch cross star wars title but it turned out really well and fun to play
I picked it up today and played for about an hour. It seems fun but I agree some communication with teammates would be good. I like the progression system and that it is not pay to win. More skill based. It reminds me of fortnite on a small call of duty multi-player scale. Fun so far.
Pre registered for it when I saw an ad on my phone downloaded it today and I love all the free cosmetics and solid gameplay I like how the characters have unique abilities and the stuff you buy is cosmetic and I wish dead by daylight could also be like this NOT P2W
I gave it a try... And as for now I was only playing with bots so every match was won by a mile. I might play longer if I get to play with actual humans and if microtransactions won't get obligatory. But nice surprise, it's good to have some simple game from time to time
@@JonnyTobinMusic Yea it really played so smooth, then it was obvious. It is a very fun game but it is laggy and pretty rough once you get all 8 ppl going on Switch.
This is the best game ever. I always wanted the game like this I always I used to have this planter zombies game on my Nintendo and I always wanted to be Star Wars and now it actually is out. I literally am gonna play this every single day.
This thing has been in the coming soon category of the eshop since before the Lite and OLED were released and i i thought they had just forgotten to tell someone it was canceled
Played it for a few hours. Not a fan of free to play mobile games which this basically is. Grind for days unless you pay to unlock. Ran smoothly and looked great for the style and I enjoyed the short battles and did well getting top of the results board. Why Disney / Lucas Arts couldn’t invest in a developer to make a decent new Star Wars paid for game. Even in this art style it would have been great as an open world type story driven game.
This game should've been a full console release and pc release not just switch and mobile, it also shouldve been a $30-60 title where most of the skins could be unlocked and an optional battle pass could be paid for for more stuff every couple months. Ive been having a blast with the game but man a huge missed opportunity imo
I’m not into this style of game, similar to fortnight, I appreciated the effort reviewing this but argue that developers should bring back classic shorter fun like that from Timesplitters 2 - Single player story, local multiplayer and stage building.
The fact that's it a fairly decent looking hero shooter makes me happy. This is a genre sorely lacking on the Switch. Will I like the mechanics though? Guess the only way to find out is to give it a go.
My problem with this game is simply the fact that it's in Early Access hell for a while now. And on top of that? Even after I unlocked Rank, the fact that teams were mixed with bots and real players was a HORRIBLE experience, because you could only hope you'd be on the team with more than one (you) real player. Like it was just not fun to lose or win that way.
Such a shame that there isn't an offline campaign/story missions mode. people like me, reluctant to step away from traditional solo/couch co-op play, would be all over this.
@handj4eternity Having only online play available does a great job of limiting a playerbase. Not everyone has great Internet, not everyone likes online play, and so many people end up missing out because they're intimidated by a skill deficit. Also, let's not forget the immaturity and toxicity present in many corners of the Internet.
I think this game is gonna get old fast cause ppl will play too much, too early. I've played a few hours & already frustrated. Your success is entirely based off random teammates. Won 1st 7 games but ppl already playing like they pro's at the game.
I thought I was alone about liking to use the gyro. I play Fortnite and Sky COTL a lot, so I have no problem with the free to play model, but this game's main menu is just ads everywhere, the same thing that annoyed me from Pokémon United
