What better time to kick this off then just after the release of the excellent The Force Awakens! This is my first release in a new Mega Suite series, focusing on Star Wars, more specifically the Legends/Expanded Universe continuity. I've wanted to do a Star Wars suite series for a while, but I didn't want to take the same approach as I did with Star Trek, or else it would just be music from Episodes I-VI in order, which isn't anything new. Instead, I wanted to highlight some of the great music from the recent video games, TV shows and specials, and also give a sense of the huge tapestry that Legends wove, including books and comics. The focus will be on that new music, with music from the films used more as connective tissue. I will also be using the new-canon Battlefront's music to fill in and represent some of the novel eras, such as the New Republic. These suites will be shorter than the Star Trek ones, but there will be a lot more of them.
This suite is not the first in the series, just the first one I felt was finished. In true Star Wars fashion, I'll be pulling a George Lucas and releasing these out of order as I finish them. I'm placing them in a new playlist so you can enjoy them in order as I add them. This particular suite represents the millennia of peace following the great final conflict between the Jedi and Sith on Ruusan. In it's aftermath, the Republic was reborn, and all Sith were killed except Darth Bane, who created the "rule of two" and began a legacy that continued down to Darth Plagueis and his apprentice, Darth Sidious. This music is meant to evoke that time period where it seems that peace and progress are the norm, while secretly the Sith endure and devise their Grand Plan. Near the end of this time, Anakin Skywalker is born and Plagueis and Sidious prepare for the first major step toward in their plan - the Invasion of Naboo. You'll also hear hints of music representative of Plagueis, Sidious, Shmi Skywalker, Qui-Gon Jinn, Yoda, and the first hints of Darth Vader to come. If you don't know much about the Legends continuity, or prefer to think of this in terms of the canon continuity, it still works for the time leading up to Episode I.

The opening track is beautiful - very "romantic" (in the sense of the emotionally expressive era that follows classical music). I take it to be from The Old Republic based on it's color? That soundtrack has some phenomenal moments that really make it feel a part of the universe.

Technically, a lot of the Old Republic themes are originally from KOTOR (Knights of the Old Republic), the old Bioware singleplayer RPG and its successor KOTOR 2. Some themes were expanded upon, others re-arranged with bigger orchestra, and some is clearly influenced by the prequel music (which was far better than the movies they were for). But then, even John Williams paid homage to the existing EU themes - his music for Coruscant in the Phantom Menace borrowed a few keys from the old Shadows Of The Empire orchestral score...

I think it's those blends you mention give this suite such an "Old Republic" vibe. And I can definitely tell what you are saying about the KOTOR music. Listening to this again, I hear a lot of the characteristic color of some of those pieces. And I agree - the prequel music gives those movies a lot of their weight. Some missed opportunities in terms of story, I think, but at least they gave us John Williams in fine form!

@@Korgano SWTOR music possesses more of that elegant flair; you could actually hear it in regions like Coruscant, Alderaan, Typhon and other peaceful republic worlds. I may even go so far as to say this was actually the "Coruscant, The Capital" track from the game, as it sounds very similar.

Say what you will about Legends, at least it felt a lot more expansive. The new canon strips everything down to a few selecting settings and never seems to want to venture out to new ones. It isn't bold enough. It lacks the bounds needed for experimentation and creativity. That's why it's is so hollow and empty. The new planets we saw in Rogue One were nice and showed that the current Lucasfilm can world-build. The Mandalorian allows itself to switch planets often. The story never remains in one place for too long. It's always shifting and that's I think what drew everyone towards it. I'm convinced that the way forward with Star Wars is to go a few steps backward.

Suggestion for a new mega Suite Star Wars Mega Suite - "Duels" There are some great lightsaber battles, especially in Revenge of the Sith. The only down side is the original Star Wars Darth Vader/Obi Wan duel didn't have much of a score behind it. The other draw back is the Duel from Empire Strikes Back seems to be retreaded into the duel between Darth Vader and Obi Wan in Revenge of the Sith. However, with all the Mega Suites you've been doing, I think there might be a place for all the Light Saber Duels in your growing collection. Bonus, you get to work with John Williams' Music.
