This is my favorite board game. I’m glad you got a chance to play it. Just wanted to drop by and mention that the expansion answers pretty much every criticism people had with the base game and really takes it to the next level. The game is unbelievably thematic and if your a Star Wars fan it’s a must play.
Well it really depends on how good you are at the game or better if you know the game a decent amount. The game can take anywhere from 2-4 hours for a game I would say, and for me it’s closer to the 2 hour mark for solo runs.
I’ve heard this one compared to Firefly a lot, which is one that I really enjoyed. I’ve been wanting to try this for a while. I need to pick it up. I love how you will spotlight other company’s games and tell what you like. Awesome channel and content.
I really need to get this game to the table. Glad you like it. Curious Jamey. As a game designer I was wondering if there were any games, not yours, that you changed, house rules or whatever, that made the game much better? Could make for a great video.
99.99% of the time, I play the game as designed. The only games I can think of in which I played a full game with an alternate rule is Calico, in which we doubled the number of face-up tiles to choose from.
Makes me want to get this to the table again. I think my favorite part of the game is how thematic it is. It really feels like you are a Smuggler, Bounty Hunter, etc. and you can create some really fun Star Wars stories while you play. You really feel like you are in control of this Sandbox story.
The clever touches to this game continue on in the expansion....sometimes you're worried about bloat in an expansion, but while reading the Unfinished Business rulebook there were several times I caught myself saying, "Oh that's a clever way to implement that, oh, that's a clever way to do that".....
yeah Unfinished Business expansion is aptly named i.e. There was Unfinished Business waiting in this base game, which is really fun and fast to play compared to the much slower Firefly imho
Big fan of Outer Rim. To me it feels just as immersed in the SW world as Rebellion, but focused on the “scum and villainy” side more than Empire vs Rebels. Fun game that often tells a wonderful story through gameplay. I’d love to add the expansion.
Really cool! Did you play at 2p or higher player counts? Do you see the game potentially becoming stale as the "narrative" factor wears off, or are there other qualities that may increase replayability? Thanks!
I really enjoyed this game the first few times, but then it got stale to me. I am a MASSIVE Star Ward Nerd, and wanted to love this game more. It's good, but lost the luster. I also really dislike the how the dice can really swing this game for good or bad. I adore Star Ward Rebellion.
Yep, Outer Rim is a fantastic game. I particularly like the skills test mechanism whereby having zero, one or more than one instance of a skill name on your crew affects the range of die symbols that count as successes. You can always pass a skill test, but it's far less likely without the skill name being listed on your cards. The job cards are a lot of fun as they immerse you into the story without bogging you down.
