Star Wars Outlaws: Early Preview & Thoughts After Playing The Game 

Have many others with early gameplay but Mortismal is the guy I always goto for honest impressions

A SW open world game sounds amazing, but I'm skeptical about how Ubisoft will handle it.

The big problem with those kinds of games is that they frontload the first few hours with as much cool stuff as possible and then they completely screw up the endgame (or even midgame). I know that a lot of people don't finish games so it's more beneficial for the studio to encourage potential buyers by providing plenty of options in the beginning where they will be played by the most, but still... I do hope that Outlaws won't have this issue.

Are you knocking out stormtroopers with your bare hands? Kinda feels wrong.

Hmm well it's Ubisoft so no pre-order or buy on release, but I will keep an eye on it and see what you think later.

It sound like it's Assassin's Creed with a Star Wars skin, which is what I was expecting, and like those games, it'll probably get boring very quickly, as their big worlds are miles wide but inches deep.

Another content creator I watch was local at an Ubisoft building for the event, they had PC's with 4090s and still only let them record/play in 1080p, so even remote access streaming the game wasn't a big difference from other content creators.

If this was made by anybody but Ubisoft, I would be more excited. As it stands, I just have almost no interest in the Ubisoft open world style anymore.

Looks like a standard open world adventure game in the star wars universe. If that's what you are looking for I'm sure this will be an 8/10. As someone that is going on 30 years of gaming with over a thousand games played, I was hoping for something a little more. It feels like so many games don't have soul. They are just copy and paste with different IPs. It won't be an Elden Ring, AC6, or BG3, but it does look better than I had assumed it would be.

Honestly, I'm just excited for any planet that's not Tattooine at this point. Umbara and Felucia would've been my top picks.

4:20 🎵Don't be suspicious, don't be suspicious.🎵 That sneak mechanic always amuses me. Obviously the act of sneaking in many circumstances would draw far more attention to you than just walking normally. I have often wondered why more games don't take that into account.

Glad I got this game free with my new CPU. I’ve seen decent impressions and have been curious about it myself, but Ubisoft isn’t someone I trust much. But it’s good to see another solid take.

Re-using the splinter cell mark and execute 😂 they won’t give up on that one. At least it is more suited to this than a stealth game

As a thorough enjoyer of AC Odyssey, I'm looking forward to this and AC Shadows. I will not be day 1-ing but I'm excited for their sales. I like to come to Ubisoft as my gaming fast food. Sometimes I want to take a break from my salmon poke bowl work lunch and sit in my car to munch on a Big Mac, that's just how it is.

It seems interesting. I am not getting it until it's playable and complete - meaning a year or more after inital release. Hopefully, it won't be exhaustingly humongous like Valhalla which I liked but by the ending ( after all DLCs and gathering almost all collectibles)...well...let's just say I almost cried with tears of joy 🤣

I think you should play Kotor 1/2 with a pistol double wielding scoundrel/sentinel. A very fresh experience on that game.

The reputation system sounds like interesting variation on the gang territory theme, eg as seen in one of those og godfather games

Like how the current Jedi franchise's Cal Kestis is Dark Forces/Jedi Knight's Kyle Katarn as a redhead, Outlaws' Kay Vass is Shadow of the Empire's Dash Rendar as a woman. Disney Canon is working on their ideas with some inspiration from the more compelling Expanded Universe and doing their own twists to them in either hit or miss ways just like Disney is doing so with each of their Marvel Super projects post Avengers Endgame.

Glad they got you to test it, but even still its a pass from me, too much just hasnt been sitting well with me in regards to Ubisoft (and AAA game companies in general, bar a few exceptions) to really support them uneqivocally, if it turns out good I will buy it in a sale a few months after release but honestly there is so many good games to play and keep up with that despite my love for old Star Wars I dont mind just leaving this aside. Ability to actually create our protagonist or at least choose would be a big plus for me, being stuck with a specific protagonist in an rpg with dialogue choice nowadays just turns me off a game quite quickly. And personally while I do not mind smaller or side stories, books and tv series etc from a perspective of not force sensitive characters, a game is something else, and the core of the SW universe has always and will always revolve around characters like Jedi and Sith, it also is easily the most epic and fun thing to engage with and its not as tho every Jedi story is somehow the same, on the contrary, nearly all the SW games I played have different takes on it, Kotor would be the most normal one, but its simply so well done that its loved to this day, Kotor 2 tho for example is a complete shift in how it shows the force and jedi and sith, same with Swtor, or the older Jedi Knight or Academy games, they all offer quite unique takes, same with Jedi Survivor and Fallen Order, just because it has force in it, or because you play as Jedi or Sith doesnt mean it cant be more down to earth or let you explore SW universe in the same way you could as a smuggler, hell Jedi Knight has an entire game before you even become a Jedi in the second one. Its a matter of preference for sure and not playing as a Jedi is something relatively unique but on a general customer scale I think people would still vastly prefer to have a game like this, but be able to at least become a force user.

This looks actually fun! I'm not usually into Star Wars games, but this one has stealth and isn't just "pew pew", so I think I might enjoy it if the narrative is good.

From what I've seen, doesn0t Nyx make the stealth way easier? The stealth already looks very simple and easy, with Nyx it looks like it makes it alot more easy. He's not even detected by enemies.

I think the fact they make you a scoundrel is going to disappoint some people. People really love lightsabers and the force. But it seems the way they handle it is actually fun, it seems you have to fight smart and back handed. Something we’ve been asking out of AC games but have only been getting with Mirage.

Star Wars open world sounds great to me… This video looks good and mostly your comments sound fairly positive. I wish it was coming out on Steam day one, but I guess I’ll just have to pick it up later on as a package deal with whatever DLC it comes out with on Steam.

Probably wont know this, but just how linear is the actual game? Are there levels, or can you just go to any planet, do any none main plot mission at any time, for any faction. Cause, like Jedi Survivor was extremely linear, when you get down to it( optional exploration aside). Personally, it was a downgrade in the gameplay loop to older SW action games. And i dont expect to be wowed by Outlaws's core gameplay loop either, but if its actually (at least somewhat) none-linear SW open world game, that that would be somewhat exciting.

I really like that you didn't analyze this game the way a lot of people will, from the lens of malaise about modern Star Wars and Ubisoft. It really feels like you just took the game on its own merits and I just wanted to say I really appreciate that unbiased view. It's hard to find critiques about modern Star Wars or Ubisoft content that doesn't judge it up front based on some silly political or bandwagon viewpoint. It's nice to see a fair assessment of the games strengths and weaknesses.

Looks amazing to me and I will definitely be playing it.

I just hate it when In games you only have one weapon, one vehicle, one outfit/armor etc; that you can upgrade, but not change for something new and at least somewhat different in both look and feel. I crave variety and, as far as that's even possible, novelty. It doesn't ruin an otherwise great game, but it detracts from the enjoyment severely for me.

I am cautiously optimistic about this game. As long as Ubisoft has learned some lessons with the feedback on recent games this could be enjoyable. One somewhat minor thing is I like the character design. Rather than a modern generic protagonist design and haircut she looks to have a reasonably late 70s-80s aesthetic like the original trilogy.

I really hope this game will be great and do well financially. Could u imagine if they expanded on this for the next one!

Kinda like some here, I hope for something that moves away from AC or Farcry patterns, and lean somehow toward a witcher-like patterns.

The rollout for this game feels like Jedi Fallen Order. It's really low key. It seems like they're going to let the game come out and speak for itself. Makes me optimistic for this one.

I do not think it will be in the game, but it would be cool to board other ships or have optional stealth missions where you steal from a space port/frigate that have high priority cargo. Stealing would add to the wanted system and reputation.

Thanks for your impressions Mortismal. From all the info Im gathering on this game, I believe a Star Wars fan that is familiar and likes Ubisoft open world games may be in for a lot of fun. Why I get so much enjoyment out of Ubisoft games is because of the freedom it gives the player. So if this Star Wars game plays well enough without gamebreaking bugs/glitches and it can be played offline, it will be a buy for me at some point.

I think I'm now more interested in this following Mort's preview. Not "same old tired force user" stuff, yes that is a plus and the gameplay looks like something I'd enjoy. While Mort's sort of tired of checkbox games, I'm not--even non-Ubi game in this genre I treat as checkbox games. Nothing excessively alarming from previews so far. Seeing full review and quality, performance, and gameplay variance of actual release will be interesting. No weapon inventory to speak of doesn't speak to my looter OCD. "[E] Inventory Full" on like 30% of the footage...oh no. Heh The whole remote preview thing is...interesting. Feels a little bit like they are hiding something; or more constructively just don't want the "performance on your 80486 is bad" distraction for what is intended to be a limited access gameplay teaser.

That territory and factions system are the feature that i want in Cyberpunk the most. Turns out, its end up in Ubisoft game 😂

I believe this game is going to be fine. Nothing too crazy just something the average gaming enjoyer that plays sp games for like 2 hrs a day after work or on the weekend as well as enjoy star wars will enjoy. Nothing ground breaking just classic ubi playing to their strengths of games for the common person that wants to dive into some sp experience time to time. Heck i may find some form of enjoyment from it. As much as people use it as a way to downplay or count something out using therm mid for games isnt bad. Theres still enjoyment and passtime in the 7/10 that are on the market.

as hype as an open world Star wars game sounds (and I love smugglers, SWTOR im playing Smuggler all day every day. Even through Knights of Fallen Empire and Eternal Throne, yeah I said it fight me force nerds) I gotta wait to see how it is upon release, cant pre order this as cool as it sounds

My concern is how interesting the main character is. I see there is choice in making your own character. I hope I was wrong.

So the protagonist is Han Solo and the game is what his movie was supposed to be.

This looks very generic. It's also Disney Starwars and Ubisoft, so it's got an uphill battle. I really hope it's good and finds a space for itself in the market but we'll see.

I'm pretty sure that the good gameplay elements shown in this 4 hour preview gameplay will repeat for 50 hours and eventually I will get sick of them.

Thank you for your honesty as usual. It looks ok, but for me personally it's simply a massive shame to make a Star Wars game and not make it an action RPG where you're a force-using lightsaber-wielding jedi/sith who gets to make light/dark side choices that affect your story and skills. We havent't had that for decades aside from the 2 mediocre Jedi games from EA, and they also werent really RPGs

I love the assassins creed games such as Odyssey and Origins, and have been dreaming of an open world star wars game for years, so I am pretty hyped for this game.
