The impressions of this game are all over the place. Some people are saying the open world is boring, some are saying it's super fun. Some people like jayvee here say the story was pretty solid, others say the story is the worst part. Some reviewers are loving the space combat, others say it's terrible. The one common thread is "it's a Ubisoft game," and we all know what that means, but as to quality, it's a toss up.
Wait a minute, so you're saying, different people have different opinions?? On a game, movie or TV show?? Shocker! After the last 10 years of RU-vid and Reddit, I was convinced that there can only be one opinion!!! What will they think of next! Having your own opinion about something. Wild!
@@sub-jec-tiv For crying out loud, there's always one of you, isn't there? There's often a general consensus, with outliers, about different media, and I simply remarked that this game is a recent anomaly. Don't be an asshole.
Arguably partially because some people look at this from the basis of it not being different enough while others appreciate what’s there. It’s not a bad Ubi title and it even got a fresh IP for the studio which means it’s gonna be pretty solid. Problem is, solid isn’t great nor terrible so the reviewers can either say that it’s decent and fun and judge it accordingly or that they want more and different to such a degree that it affects their rating. Story is also something that’s often pretty hard to tell, some people appreciate good writing for normal mission pieces etc. with good voice acting alone while others want more, which imo. solidifies this as a good, not great, Ubisoft title. There is no hate wave because there is not much to hate and there is not praise wave because while it’s certainly good fun for a lot of players it’s also nothing you would declare as outstanding. It’s a bit like judging a Far Cry or AC entry. As long as the basics are there, a lot of people will not mind that it’s not pushing boundaries because what’s there satisfies a certain gamer urge, kinda like Valhalla did for Viking themed games. To go a bit more in depth; good average games have a certain feel. If hits have enough weight, if the sound design is fun, if there is enough to feel different but not to feel uniquely good. If the enemy AI works, if the menus are acceptable etc. - we all know the signs if we see them. This title delivers. The atmosphere is good. The shooting and stealth is good. The many faction related choices are even fairly interesting. Bottom line - if people haven’t been playing certain types of games almost religiously as many of us enthusiasts certainly do, they will pick this up and get an experience that is a bit like eating a fresh regular pizza. It’s not anything unexpected but if the main ingredients are there it’s pretty nice occasionally.
All I can say is as much ubisoft past works are good but not great but here me out after some decade this game will be loveable at some degree, cause at low cost it will provide more value. After some time people will say why this game was busted, it's so great they can play one more time. They freaking know the solution how to tackle it but their greedy admins not letting them to be creative. My point is they need to find balance btw price and product they are providing.
Man all i can think of whenever i see this game is how visceral and gritty being a scavenger/bounty hunter in star wars 1313 would’ve been. Instead the game industry has pussified so much stuff even being a star wars bounty hunter looks like a disney tv show. Saving my money for space marine 2.
One thing Ubisoft will always be years ahead in is graphics Ubisoft and rockstar are the only companies that can keep the graphical record for there companies.
Basically once again confirming that Ubisoft is the literal definition of insanity. Ironic seeming they made Far Cry 3 and we all remember what Vaas asked us.
The way Ghost of Tsushima hides its mid-tier facial animations is pretty clever-definitely a solid insight. That approach could've worked here, but since Outlaws is all about the 'seedy underworld space epic' vibe, it kind of forces those 'up close and personal' conversations. Honestly, I'm thinking it's a Snowdrop Engine issue. The Division series never had great in-game faces, and Avatar gets away with it because, well, they're aliens
That's a fair point! I think ultimately I'm just very keyed in on faces. In RPGs, open world games, etc. it feels like too much of an afterthought to me. I blame Mass Effect and Dragon Age for making me look for consistent and "good enough" faces. Mass Effect gets away with alien faces too
Could be, yeah. When the embargo lifted I tweeted that I'd probably come in below the critic average which is like 75/100. The story wrapped up well enough to give it a little bump for me
I'm a star wars fan and i don't understand the hate for this game. No one said that it's gonna be THE game. It has the ups and downs. The downs are very very low bad the ups are very very good. It's a descent (ubisoft) game with many issues that is just what the star wars fans needed
That’s called brand damage. Ubi put out too many still decent fun but not great games so the critics are growing bored and even somewhat annoyed. Had this released as an independent game under a new name with different marketing, a lot of people would look at Outlaws with new eyes. Arguably, the ball is in Ubis court. They need to push themselves more. Maybe with some smaller titles. These big ones are like super hero movies with a big budget - if too much is at stake, a lot of creativity is snuffed out by carefully calculated risks.
You answered your whole comment in your comment response 😂😂😂. One it's a Star Wars game that nobody really asked for especially in this Disney Star Wars climate. Two it's by a company that nobody wants a game from, because they've been garbage. Three is issues in the game before an after it being available to the public. Four the character model looks hideous. Five who wants to play a greedy Disney Star Wars scavenger bounty hunter game with the character that has a little cat or whatever with them?!?
@@neniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiSeriously these guys spend the same runtime of a Ubisoft game commenting on it from the reveal trailer up until a month after release on a daily basis 😂
I dont understand why we can't use different guns - in these kind of open world stealth games I find I'm mostly using a sniper rifle, but that I can't do that in this game sucks.
It honestly blows my mind that studios like Ubi/EA can fumble such a guarenteed bag like damn all y'all had to do was make a good Star Wars game where I can fly from space to the ground and land without a loading screen. THEY CAN"T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH IT
@@JoshR842 Fr, finally found NMS last year and have been grinding it ever since shit's hella fun. Just wish we could get something like that in the Star Wars Universe lmao
@@Cracka-Jack The concept of an outlaws style game set in the star wars universe could have been sooo good. Yet ubisoft still managed to produce a mediocre product. The fact that they still used loading screens and you cant create your own outlaw character is all down to a lack of effort from Ubi.
@@JoshR842 Right?? Ubi always gotta go for the bs cash grab :( if this was the game it deserved to be it would've straight printed money and could've gone a long way to fix Ubi's terrible reputation. I'm so tired of such banger ideas getting hit with generational fumbles from big studios. Someone get the Black Myth Wukong devs on a 10 year-150 mil contract lmao
Overall the game appears to be decent, however, one thing that really throws off the atmosphere is the lack of interaction by NPCs. They don't react to Kays proximity or physical touch, they just stand there like stone pillars lol, absolutely NO life to em. That was a very crucial oversight that should've been addressed imo.
Disney's not about to let Ubi make a Star Wars game where you can kill NPCs brother 😅 much as that'd be awesome, that's not realistic for this IP. It's not a Ubisoft thing, both AC and Far Cry are violent games
I would argue even though Origins and Odyssey are highly flawed games, they both had something special that sparked interest in people, a beautifully realized world (that you'd get nowhere else) bursting with content to see and do. Every game Ubisoft has made after that seems joyless and soulless, an attempt to just push the minimum viable product out of the window.
@@MrHazz111 I completely agree with you. I really enjoy that Ubisoft formula but it appears that not many do just like I’m really enjoying this new Star Wars game.
@@MrHazz111 it’s a little bit of quantity over quality, but within that quantity you get hints and glimpses of the love and care that was put into it… to me that is what video gaming is though is just sitting back, relaxing, and playing a game that they are so much to do and actually feels like a video game… and the freedom to find new locations hidden off in Little corners and alleyways
ijm currently playing avatar and i like that ubisoft is slowly moving away from its own bloated open world format, if outlaws is similar im intrigued and that snowdrop engine or what its called seems a great fit for open world gameplay
At 30 hour mark I definitely gotta say that the game significantly lacks a good story that actually revolves around the syndicates for me. The reputation system itself is a really, really good foundation, but at this point it hardly matters - I'm good with all the syndicates and there's not much actual engagement I can have with them now.
What’s really unfortunate with this game is that they could have simply change the main character to a Mandalorian. A Mandalorian based game would have been way more appealing to gamers. The customization, the bounties you could take, starting as a new member and working your way through the ranks, the potential was limitless. Why they settled for this I have no idea.
@@NajibBendaoud-o2v It's not just the game that's buggy and broken, but it's also Ubisoft's insidious financial model that makes the game suck. People were paying $130 to buy the top edition of the game to play it 3 days earlier than everyone else, only to have a day one patch that made their saves unplayable because of bugs they missed. So, now Ubisoft is paying customers to be beta testers? It's gross. And the writing is absolutely below mid. Not to mention the superficial things that many consumers dislike, namely the uglified main character and the graphical glitches. It's just a below average game, but it's definitely on par with what we've come to expect from a failing company like ubisoft.
Outlaws is a compilation of other (older) Ubisoft titles rolled into one in terms of gameplay mechanics. However, they only took the basic parts of those mechanics. For example, the stealth mechanics is very reminiscent of Watch Dogs 2014. But at least, there, you have your ctOS hacks to balanced out the bare bones stealth mechanics. Sure, in Outlaws you have your pet companion to assist you, but you can obviously do more with your phone on Watch Dogs and that part is what makes Watch Dogs stands out.
Horizon Forbidden West's facial is best that i have ever seen, and that was released in PS4. I played it in my PC but i have seen PS4 gameplay videos. How can Ubisoft fumble so much 🤦🏻♂️. And I am one those who loves Odyssey and Far Cry 6 and think they get unnecessary hate.
@@nhanon67as I agree with the boring world and outpost part but I liked the story. But I was specifically talking about the facial animation of that game
To me this was the best review on youtube you said what you liked pointed out the bad but ultimately you still had fun and that is all I want I can’t wait to play this tomorrow.
Soooo... Not New Vegas? Reminds me of Shadow of the Tomb Raider - Absolutely gorgeous with town/settlements full of interesting people - none of whom you could interact with in the slightest. The thing with Kay dropping weapons is dumb, doubt they could or would patch/change that.
Haven’t bought it yet but this game looks like the type of ubisoft game where nothing about it aside from the graphics is impressive but still really fun kinda like ac oddsey where the gameplay and story aren’t that good but yet still really fun
As a 40 year old vet gamer. I feel the exact same, in fact many games I avoid like Metal Gear because of that fact. I havent done watch dogs, due to that fact of stealth as well. I dunno why I am doing this game- most likely hecause Star Wars fan (grew up on it as a kid). Not happy the direction they are taking the sacred IP, either. That said? This game is pretty fun, hands down. Ive gotten loud cuss word angry at some of the early forced stealth to the point my wife asks me to put the game down even 😂. But, its honestly pretty fun. And as someone who never plays stealth or puzzle games- what would feel like a mid/generic Ubi game (hint: it is still, 1000%)-- hits a little different. Enough to honestlly be enjoyable. Is it worth $130? Absolutely not, for most folks. Is it worth a month or two Ubi+ sub? To me, yeah. Ill buy it but only on disc, and at deep discount so I have to wait for LGS game resale stores to stock up enough to hit the deep discount- so next year sometime. Id buy the game for maybe $25-35. Just how I woulld value it. But, *it is fun. It's not as bad as some reviewers make it out to be: but it is mid.*
The person reviewing this isnt actually a gamer. So please keep that in mind. Ill say this, gamers have their expectations set way to high for every game nowadays. They want every game to have thousands of hours of content, be a live service type game with continual content for years, they want it to be amazing cutscenes, amazing gameplay, groundbreaking new mechs every single time a game comes out. Dude said he was confused by the game. Why doesnt a reviewer understand to look at the type of game it is before buying. Did he really not know it was a stealth based game ? Has he ever played a stealth game? How is that confusing lol
tbf clone trooper armor is essentially sending them off with two sheets of plastic and wishing you luck, ... yeah the empire really didn't give a crap about their men
Man, our *expectations* and *standards* for games really *took a hit* couple years ago Glad you enjoyed it, I might come around after some more hours who knows.
What you show from the syndicate system, is one of my general Ubisoft problems. I have the feeling that they are extremely afraid to create friction and let players miss or skip content. However, that makes these games sometimes feel like work. I generally enjoy these games, but the lack of choice often makes me feel exhausted when playing for longer periods of time. I also never have the wish to replay a Ubisoft game because you already had to do all the stuff to finish. So, there is not much more to experience in subsequent playthroughs. I think, they need to become more confident that players actually want to engage with their games, make their choices and actually seek out all the content just because it’s fun, not because you have to do it to proceed. I had hoped that they tried something like this with the syndicate system, but sadly it seems to be the same as always.
I've literally been asking this myself. Are we not travelling to other planets like they showed us earlier? Like, I swear this had some space travelling to different planets, but I guess I misunderstood the presentation? Really confused tbh.
You do travel between planets, I should have shown that. This video went through another version that was going to be much longer but I ran out of time, so that's my bad. When you transition between planets you click a button and the ship takes off, goes into orbit, then there's some very light side content in orbit. You can do that or choose another planet to travel to. That's about it.
@@jayveeeee okay, so does that mean there are multiple different maps for each planet you could go to? Sorry for asking! I don't have much time to RU-vid nowadays but i always tune to your vids and you actually answer comments, so figured now would be tje best time to ask 🙏🏼
I personally dislike the gameplay by the looks of it, but unfortunately being the Ubisoft fanboy I am, I’m going to buy it and play it myself anyways. Edit: yeah I know very well I’m buying the same mid shit from a company that doesn’t care about its consumers with my own hard earned money but I just can’t resist the temptation. Yes, I do infact need to seek help.
I used to be as well, but after too many mid games, I now usually only buy when on deep discount later. Last full price ubi game I bought was Valhalla.
I am in the game for 15 hours and so far I really have fun. I got what I expected. I am just sad that ubisoft again did waist a lot of potential. the graphics on PS5 ist not how it should be. the facial animation, well…. 😢. the stealth part is really big, but I like stealth, the only thing I miss are more stealth mechanics, but kay is not an assassin. its an good game, with great star wars vibes and a nice fresh mission design. they tried new stuff and most of it works fine. but as many times, it feels half baken. It does not deserve all the hate, but it could have been better.
Hey jayvee call of duty black ops 6 is coming out in October this year so you can go and play call of duty black ops 1 campaign before that comes out 👍
Probably the best and most un-biased take I've heard regarding this game. Agree with just about everything you said although I do find the stealth pretty fun when you don't just do the optimal thing with rinse and repeat tactics. Things like setting up traps and multiple takedowns feels rewarding as does finding other routes into bases. One mission that I kept screwing up, I found like 4 different routes, one of which just bypassed the whole base through the back. Its a fun game but definitely flawed in many aspects, would not pay full price for it, best option is 1 month of Ubisoft+ and just cancel after.
@@JoshR842 AI is without a doubt broken in the game, hopefully that is something they can actually patch but I'm not holding my breath since it's made by Massive.
Repetitive is Ubisoft key word XD, I mean for me it ok cause I like to complete my games 100% but for that price like every one here saying ill wait for a discount
You mean a potential mechanic that existed during roughly ten minutes of one movie out of now hundreds of hours of film content (when including Clone Wars and Rebels)? To paraphrase Harrison Ford while on the set of Star Wars, this ain't that kind of game.
The amount of hate this game is receiving is just undeserved. It's not groundbreaking but it never pretended to be. It's good fun and a nice solo Star wars experience, and there is so few of those...
Feels like this game has been given a shit load of lee-way because its star wars, every review i’ve seen has predominantly focused on the short comings and general mediocrity of the game and then they go 7/10?? Thats not a mediocre score at all thats a damn good game if its 7/10. Kindafunny are the only ones i’ve seen the score mirror the message at 4/10 from gregg and 5/10 from andy i think
ive played about 5 hours (with abour an hour of that playing sabacc 💀) of this game and as a huge star wars fan, i like it allot, its not groundbreaking and the shooting gameplay could be allot better but its still super fun and is very immersive
Ya think I might skip this and just wait for dead rising. Wish they would have taken the rdr2 approach. Having a loadout and storing weapons on your speeder and if stealth fails then guns blasting no starting over that shit is so boring and annoying
@@cheeseboy2603 Do you genuinely think you can just see someone’s opinion and just say “cap” ??? That doesn’t make sense at all. You cannot say “cap” to an opinion, because opinions are not right or wrong, just because you are unable to have fun in your life doesn’t mean I can’t. Go be a loser somewhere else, cheeseboy2603.
Aside from some bugs I’m enjoying the game quite a bit. I’m not the biggest Star Wars movie fan but have played a lot of games in the Star Wars universe and enjoyed most of them. I love big open world games and anything with space travel has a special place in my heart. Nix has stolen my heart too, adorable little thief.
It kinda makes me mad how almost every video on RU-vid. That is, game related. Seems to be just people hating on games. It makes me laugh, but this game is good. There's no such thing as a perfect video game. And I think, honestly, you Expect too much from a video game
