Really hope Flycast emulates the Hikaru someday. Specially with how unreliable those boards can be and also this is a fun game but with so many issues, its hard to play. The missing skybox, the layering issues when you select your pod racer, the timer is invisible during name entry on new records, we all hate on Jar Jar but he looks even more unsettling with the emulation issues. Not to mention the audio slowdowns that makes anything running through Demul sound like its coming from a tape with heavy wow and flutter.
@vintagetvandexciting Yeah, Flycast really needs to get Hikaru emulation going so that those games can be properly preserved. One of my friends has two Racer Arcade deluxe cabinet and one of them had an error on boot, shipped it out to the guru of Sega arcade repairs and the CPU or GPU literally popped out of the board during transit. Those damn Hikaru boards are just way too fragile for their own good.
I am using Demul emulator. And no, this game dont works on FlyCast. Maybe i will update this video in a few weeks like i did with "Indy 500" from "Sega Model 2" recently. I will stop using Cabinet bezels (and will use only side bars) because it takes too much screen space and i have a small monitor. Also its better for viewers to see better the game.
@vintagetvandexciting There is other games too. Planet Harriers its an obscure sequel to Space Harriers that almost no one played. It works on Demul, but have even more graphical errors than Star Wars Racer Arcade. I also recommend to play other Sega Hikaru games using at least an AMD Ryzen 5600X or Intel equivalent singlethreaded performance. My CPU is too slow for that so i can't record a game video.
I can't post links here i already got some flags, but you can pick any "Demul 0.7 fullset" you finds on internet, then you need some files to load the game. mie.zip (1 kb) hikaru.zip (768 kb) swracer.zip (117 mb) These are the 3 files you need inside your roms folder, so you open the Demul emulator, then go to "File" --- "Run Hikaru" --- "swracer" The game is running at 480p in this video but upscaled to 4K to avoid bitrate compression. The emulator has been discontinued so our best bet is to wait someday FlyCast to emulate this game and other Hikaru games without graphic/sound issues.
@@alexsayskmk Any idea why the Tatoine Bantha track looks better visually rendered than the Bonta classic ? In fact, im puzzled why they made the same map twice but one is longer ?
@@thesteammachine1282 This emulator was discontinued, and in the situation in which it stopped, the emulation of the Sega Hikaru card was incomplete or pre-eliminated, and in the end it seems that no one is interested in emulating the card precisely because there is little documentation on the internet in addition to little interest from programmers due to the The fact that the system has very few games developed. Besides, it is a little stronger than the Gaelco PVR Hardware, which makes it even more difficult to test the games. The only way to be able to play this game at home without having to purchase parts for the Sega Hikaru board, is to put up with these emulation problems that have not been fixed. We can hope if someday FlyCast dev tries to emulate this hardware.
@@thesteammachine1282 Not sure why. i want to know too. But the longer course is because of obstacles (dificulty increased), as the first track is aimed to be "High Speed" and the last track is aimed to be "Technical"
Is it possible to play this with the desmul emulator with 2 joysticks( one for each engine) I’ve got the game running but don’t know how to configure the controls
No its not possible. the "dual engine" is only an animation, in reality works as analog steering. There are very few inputs for this game. Accel, Brake, Turbo and Analog Steering.
