They've still left Anakin's parentage undefined. Charles Soule, the writer of Darth Vader #25, has said that this was a vision filtered through Vader's psyche seeming to provide answers but isn't reality. The idea is that Anakin believes/d that Palpatine created him to show how much he's bought into his master's worldview and machinations. I have a feeling they are trying to leave the truth of that alone in deference to George Lucas.

The Jedi do not take children against their will. They ask permission from their guardian, and they offer the child a choice, but the children get to choose. I don’t get why people keep calling the Jedi child snatchers, or why new Lucasfilm seem to want to give anyone that impression. The Jedi Academy is like a boarding school, you live there while you study. I’m sure that not every student/padawan graduates to a Jedi Knight, some might flunk it, or just find that it’s not for them.

@@rogersjgregory the whole idea of people completely giving up their children to the Jedi at a very young age is just stupid. I have never liked it. If they made it so the families still were allowed contact with the children it would make more sense. Just think about it.. what kind of decision making ability does a 3 or 4 year old have for deciding the remaining course of their life? Even if the parents “volunteer” to give up their kids, the child doesn’t have consent. In most of the fiction I’ve seen with children joining the Jedi, it was because force users were being targeted by the dark side… there is a reason for this.

A member of the Lucasfilm story group confirmed that Palpatine did not create Anakin, it was just in the comic a visual metaphor for Anakin being destined to be under Palpatine's thrall.

This doesn't mean that Mae and Osha's creation contradicts Star Wars canon (it doesn't) it just means that wasn't the case with Anakin.

Came here to say the same. The writer of the comic has publicly stated that the intention of that panel was not to imply that Palpatine made Anakin, just that he has long been a negative influence on him.
@thejediofchicago6580
@thejediofchicago6580 3 месяца назад
Michael is incorrect when he talks about how Anakin was created at the 25:00. The comic panel he's talking about is a Dark Side vision of Anakin's worst fear, that Palpatine had something to do with his creation. The author of the Darth Vader comic, Charles Soule, and LFL story group member Matt Martin confirmed this several years ago. Anakin was created by the Will of the Force in response to Palpatine and Plagueis meddling with the midiclorians and the Force, but they had no direct involvement in Anakn's creation

Yes I agree this was a flashback from Osha's point of view, and hopefully we will see another flashback from Mae or Sol's point of view later, with the rest of the story, because there is definitely more to the story. In a galaxy this big, it makes sense that there would be a sect of force witches practicing the force differently and calling it by a different name. The question is, were the witches in fact practicing the dark side? Maybe that's why jedi were on Brandok, to investigate.

I am enjoying the show because it is its own show. It’s a mystery. It reminds me of Columbo. Every episode would begin SHOWING the audience the murder plot. Then it was up to Columbo to figure out WHY the murder happened. We DEFINITELY do not know what fully happened. Thanks for a great discussion guys. Helped solidify something for me - this episode had the opposite effect it was supposed to, at least on me. I think the flashback (and the more to come - and are they really going to do 3 episodes out of 8 as Rashomon? That feels like a choice) are supposed to show us how the girls ended up the way they are - but this episode made me care _LESS_ about all of it. The girls, their background, the Jedi involved, the story that got us to this point - I was slightly intrigued after the first two episodes. Now I'm feeling that I'm going to have to force (no pun intended) myself to tune in again. I will, because I'm hoping the clunkiness of this episode is a one off, but for me personally 'Destiny' was super off-putting.

Another great thoughtful review Buddies ! I haven’t read any of HR Phase 2 yet but know there’s a comic focusing on Porter Engle (The Blade of Badotta). Please no replies spelling out the details as I’m gonna get to it, thx. But in the TCW S6 arc The Disappeared, Dagoyan Masters of Bardotta are going missing which we find out is the result of Mother Talzin trying to regain corporeal form again. The Bardottan’s appeal to the senate for help & will only accept Senator Binks as an emmisary. Palps sees an opportunity to undermine the Jedi & so brings it to their attention from which we get : “A strong connection to the force the Dagoyan Masters have. Yet, unlike the Jedi or the Sith they are. Warriors, they are not. Intuition, knowledge, the harmony of the universe is what they sense. Passively they connect with the force. P: I wonder why the the queen doesn’t want a Jedi sent to solve this mystery ? Long ago inducted into the Jedi order Bardottan children were. However, thieves the Jedi were named by the Dagoyan. Mace: The Dagoyan Masters believed the Jedi took the children against their will, we were labelled as kidnappers.” Turning to what we haven’t seen of the tragedy/altercation; “I want to be a Jedi, mama. I do. I must discuss this situation with everyone here. But we will consider your wish when we do so." Seems like that discussion w/ evervone might not have gone very well. Aniseya's remark that Oshie will never see her again can be read as Jedi must sever all attachments but also can be read as foreknowledge of how the convo w/ the coven advisors was going to go 🤷‍♂️. Re: the Greek fates (Moirai); Clotho spins the thread of life, Lachesis measures it, & Atropos cuts (ends) it. The Peridea Night Sisters of Ahsoka were named Klothow, Lakesis, Aktropaw & their headdresses eluded to their respective roles. And finally a fun little easily missed detail is that the door of the room that Oshie is trapped in and is set ablaze is designed to resemble Vader’s helmet. Just a cool design choice as Vader obviously has nothing to do w/ this show 100yrs before he’s born. But maybe a foreshadowing of the beginning of the path that leads to him. Also a further link between Oshie & Mae & the Chosen One.

Forgot to add but while it’s in the trailer, it’s slightly spoilery… @ 0:21 of the trailer posted May 4th we can see what would appear to be Sol scaling the wall of the coven’s compound. We see this same part of the compound at the beginning of ep3 when Mother Koril takes the girls back. [24:00] Guys, the twins are neither Messiahs or Chosen ones. The suggestion that Darth Sidious used the Force to somehow create a life and cause a woman he’s never met to become pregnant is not the takeaway I got from the opera scene in Ep.3. If anything., Palpatine was describing the actions of a Sith Master, who was later killed by his Apprentice. And, it was all a lie. We learn later that Palpatine was speaking about his relationship with his own Sith Master. He even tells Anakin that his Master never truly learned the secret, but together they may discover the secret.

I’m sorry, Michael. You have no idea what you’re talking about most of time. Yoda was 100% correct when he told Luke that he was “the last of the Jedi.” All the character names that you rattled off after the [26:30] mark were not Jedi. Yoda was talking about people that were trained and knighted by Jedi Masters that lived in the Jedi Temple prior to Order 66. Luke is referred to as “The Last Jedi” in the opening crawl of Episode 7. Luke is also part of the double meaning behind the title of Ep.8, “The Last Jedi.”. Meanwhile, you other guys did not correct Michael. Good luck on future videos, guys.

This episode highlighted again the arrogance and presumption of the Jedi movement imo. This came across in the prequels as well from a political perspective. I found this witch coven fascinating. I get why people may be a bit upset about Anakin no longer seemingly being unique by being created by the Force. His 'Chosen One' status was already usurped by Rey in the ST and, here, we're seeing someone else (elses, I guess) pre-empting Anakin once again. What I don't have time for is the subsequent screeching and gnashing of teeth and spewing vitriol b/c of it. Any time SW kinda goes back and pre-empts or undercuts a previous character or storyline, it annoys me. It even annoys me in my favorite series, Star Trek; I would point to the Trials and Tribulations episode and, while I'm not a fan of Tribbles or Tribbles episodes, in general, I never liked it b/c it undercuts Kirk and the TOS crew's heroic efforts to save the day by having Sisko & Co steal their thunder. So, I get it. I just refuse to go all toxic over it.
@Vulcanerd
@Vulcanerd 3 месяца назад
I’m just going to plaster my “big theory” about what’s going on here too. -Aniseya used the Force to create the twins. Koril mentioned how the Jedi would be upset if they knew how they were created. -Mae might have set the initial fire, but I suspect that, much like the Jedi were drawn to these two special kids, the Sith master tracked them down too in hopes of a potential apprentice and was responsible for the level of destruction and the deaths of the villagers. This would also still jive with how Mae thinks the Jedi were responsible. - I think the Sith master extracted the knowledge to create life through the Force from Aniseya and will use it to create Anakin Skywalker. Making this Sith Palaptine’s master or Palpatine’s master’s master. Let’s not forget the reference to the “unnatural”.

I'm thinking the masked person is the master's (Plagueis') apprentice, recruiting their own acolyte to become their apprentice when they try to take out their master per the Rule of Two. Basically, as seems to be a number of things about the series, it's their version of Asajj Ventress with the masked person being the Dooku stand-in.

Probably the worst episode of Star Wars. Mae is unlikeable, she murdered Jedi! Why? Osha wants to be a Jedi. Why? the Jedi are being crucified in this story! The Covan chanting was cringe worthy and use of the force looked like air bending. What’s missing from the story is a clear motivation from the characters that we can relate to on a human level, in this way the story is poorly structured.

The more I think about this episode, the more I think a lot of how people are being portrayed is way off. This is all from OSHAs POV right? If she wants to get away so badly, of course she’s going to see anything having to do with leaving in this positive glowing light. She’s going to see her sister as this smothering force and her other mother as being super harsh, etc. because to do otherwise could make her want to stay. She’s a child and everything seems bigger. Mae could potentially not be anywhere near as “evil” or pushy in actuality, but the lens which osha sees her life could be distorting what’s really happening.

I always thought in my own head canon that Plagueis created Anakin upon his death at the hands of Sidious-Palpatine as some sort of revenge against Sidious-Palpatine for killing him too soon*, a sort of final lesson for Palpatine. According to the lore Plagueis was more interested in powers and esoterism of the force whereas Palpatine had political ambitions to dominate people. Plagueis was trying to learn how to live forever like previous Vitiate before him. It would be ironic if on his death bed Plagueis reached out into the force and "created" Anakin and the story would come full circle.

If Mother Aniseya was the one who created them, why wasn't she also the one to carry them? "Immaculate conception" requires a woman to carry the child, which she could have done herself. I'm with Mike - underwhelmed. I'm getting from everyone who's seen Ep4 that they're going to do a Rashomon thing - a great movie that worked well b/c the basic story was a simple one. Not sure anything in the SW universe is all that simple. Covering my eyes.

What I gather is that the twins look nothing like Mother Koril because she is strictly a surrogate mother with no actual biological influence on their genetics. The twins are human and Black because they are essentially made in Mother Aniseya's image: wherher that was because of Force manipulation to spark life, or some Kaminoean-styled cloning science using Aniseya's eggs, or sleeping with a male (the Sith father) and for other reasons using Koril as the surrogate, they are biologically fashioned after Aniseya. As for the fire, it seems pretty clear that the fire only coincided with or was coordinated to occur at the same time as some other effect (whether poison, or physical attack) that actually killed the witches. Maybe that is the Sith looking to claim the twins the same way the Jedi came to get them, OR the Jedi intending to incapacitate the witches only long enough to leave with Osha uncontested and it going wrong, OR Koril being angry at the Coven and eliminating them so she could forceably keep Mae and Osha, either way I agree these accounts are only what informed Osha's and Sol's points of view on the past.

@@thejuansnow well given that I have 40 plus years of being a fan and represent one of four generations in my family of fans, I'll explain myself to you. The fact that you bring up sex and ethnicity helps to clarify the lack of understanding you have for the IP. Those issues were dealt with long before the story started being told. George Lucas has made it very clear that this is a universe that has moved on from those types of issues. That's what makes it very clear, and I mean very clear, that this show is nothing more than an attempt to bring modern politics into the storytelling. What they have done is stopped telling fresh stories and focused on retconning the things they don't like. The reason that Anakin was so special was because he was conceived without natural methods. This show removes that. It means that Yoda, mace, Qui-Gon jinn, and even Obi-Wan Kenobi wasted all of their time and energy. Anakin was not special, therefore Luke and Leia had no purpose, and Rey were of no real significance. What this show is attempting to do is remove all of the understanding we have around the universe of Star Wars. It's not going to work. The reason that the fans have United in rejecting it is because it undoes the very nature of that universe. So I appreciate your 25 plus years of being a fan. I appreciate that you think that it's significant that these people are talking about who they sleep with and what color their skin is. Unfortunately Star Wars universe does not care about those things. And ultimately those who are fans do not care either. The fans are sick and tired of the conversations that come from the position of hate and intolerance.

I'll come back to explain how this absolutely does not take away from anakins being special in a few, because according to all lore we have ot really doesnt

Hey guys. So refreshing to hear your overall positive feelings in this. The vitriol online from certain corners over the coven and the “mothers” is just getting exhausting. Funny that the same people now saying this shits on George Lucas’ vision are probably the same ones who claimed George Lucas r aped their childhood with the prequels. Personally, I found the episode interesting albeit clunky. Maybe that is in the direction like you said. Or.. maybe upcoming episodes will make us look back on this one and say “ah haaaaaa!” :) I’m still invested and am hoping for some action packed Star Warsy episodes in the coming weeks. Overall I have felt the show has been somewhat predictable so far, so I’m hoping it takes me in more unexpected directions soon. :) Thanks again for your take on it. It was an awkwardly staged scene. The camera positioning and pacing. The guys point about pulling audience focus from what the mother was teaching was a mistake, there wasn't a lot of lead up to their disagreement or spat it just happened spontaneously all at once like a director said "and now you start arguing and bickering". It didn't feel like there was any emotional weight behind why. It wasn't so much the performance as it was the direction-writing there.

@thesharpercoder
@thesharpercoder 3 месяца назад
Because of comments about how the twins were created, I stuck around to hear what you guys had to say. You guys need to rewatch the episode so that you can evaluate your false conclusions over how the twins were conceived. Mother Aniseya said, “I created them.” A lot of fans have jumped to the premature conclusion that the witches “created life” using the Force, Thread, or some dark magic. And, so have you. The Kaminoans created life, too. They did it through cloning. In other Star Wars content, cloning beings that are strong with the Force is an elusive goal. Yes, Mother Aniseya could have use dark magic to create life from the Trhead. Do we really know that Anakin was created by the Force? If so, then how do we know that. Mother Aniseya could have also used dark magic to modify a clone of herself as twin beings, too. The twins seem to be some type of rare Dyad. We really do not know how the twins were created, no more than we know how the fire got so out of control so quickly. In fact, we know more about the fire than we do about the twins creation. Did you notice Mother Koril observing sparks and noises coming from the power generator after the lesson? Osha looked toward the ceiling as she was escaping the fire, when she heard a loud boom and many voices crying out. Something seems to have exploded, but we just do not know what. As the episode drew to a close, we have a beauty shot of the fortress on fire. Yet, we were given glimpses of the entire forest ablaze in teasers and and the first episode. Have you guys ever listened to the “Descriptive Audio” track while watching Star Wars shows? Try it. It can be enlightening.

@@thesharpercoder Right.......it's called a review and we give our opinions on what we're seeing and what we're hearing. We all watch these episodes multiple times and come up with our own conclusions. We do occasionally miss something, but it's pretty clear that Aniseya says she created the twins and Koril carried them. We're not grabbing stuff out of thin air. We say it MULTIPLE TIMES in the episode the we are seeing it snot the full truth of what happened and that we might be going back to these moments to get the full truth. Maybe you need to watch our review again so you can note every time we say that. None of us were accepting anything as the full truth. There is more to come.
