Apparently nobody has seen a snow speeder with a missing panel in the movie, but a snowspeeder model prop from the movie with THAT panel missing has been seen in a lot of Star Wars exhibition displays. Many people think the panel was removed in the prop in order to accommodate/use pyrotechnics and explosions in the prop model and show some of the inner parts of the speeder. Who knows? I thinks it’s great they included the removable panel to match this toy with the filming prop shown in exhibitions.
The T-47 is a “cargo handling” speeder and the magnetic tow cable was used to attach to some kind of cargo container that they towed around. Where and how this takes place I have no idea. I was thinking it was maybe space capable to do that at a space port, but that is not a popular theory. Even though it essentially has similar engines and mechanical characteristics to the LAAT gunship.
Great and honest review as always :) However, I do think the simplicity of the tail-gun is great, no batteries to change every now and then, no corrosion of said batteries to ruin the fun. Adding a spring to make it shoot I could get behind and still think of it as simple - someone's -probably- most likely already made it. Anyway, like you, this was a vehicle I knew I had to get from the get-go, just to be sure to get it.
T-47 airspeeders were originally used to transport cargo. That's why they had tow cables in the back...to tow cargo around. When the Rebel Alliance acquired a bunch of these guys, they decided to convert them for combat.
Here we are in 2024 and I’m just buying this now. OMG I love this. Your review sold me. Why did it take me so long to come around to this- oh I remember, because the Acolyte sucks!!! This looks so awesome in my collection
Great informative and fun review. "Hey Empire, come get some Dak!" And yes, I bought this bad boy Snowspeeder. All the best to you and your wife. 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
Its actually a tow cable and that is all it does in lore. The reason for this is because the speeders were originally used in warehouses for moving stuff.
Watching this review this is the 5th time. just ordered it and I’m really excited I also have snowspeeder luke on the way can’t wait to get it on display with them both inside it. Another Great Review!!
Awesome video Mike! I have mixed feelings about this vehicle. The toy lust was real when I preordered it. Once in hand, the canopy issue bugged me. I'm thinking about cutting off the guide peg thingys. When the figures are in and holding on to the grips, I get that "Ahhh this was so worth it" feeling. I have to admit, I flew it around the room a little, like I did when I was 6. It was great then and even better now.
I think it's important to be honest about things you don't like but still be able to like the thing. There are times where I stare at it and i just think, "damn! that looks good!" and then when i think about all the little nitpicks i have, i wish it had been better. Both can be true!
I got it a few weeks ago, really happy with it, just waiting for my Luke. In one of the Star Wars novels, there is a short story. The imperial in the At-At squadron discovers the weakness, that a simple cable could bring down the Walker. He reports it to his superiors, and for his trouble he gets booted out of the Empire. He joins the Rebels, and that is the reason why the Snowpeeder is fitted with a cable harpoon.
I do own that Speeder. I agree the best attribute of this collectible is the detail in the cockpit. The harpoon is obviously used to Hoth ice fish to feed those Tantauns... I don’t know why sound didn’t come in thus. Granted the thing just makes a humming sound but voice clips from Dak wanting to take on the Empire or Luke showing off his he took the dead guy’s number from the area Squadron. These things could have been done. The BMF has sound. I love all the ESB toys that came out this year. What a blast! More still to come I’m sure. I would have liked a little more love from Bespin and more droids. Medical droid would be so welcome. Loved the probe droid though.
This was my favorite ship as a kid and was ready to pull the trigger on the pre-order until I read that there were no lights or sounds. I’d pay $120 without Dak if it had lights and sounds. Anyways I’ll wait until it’s on clearance. Another great review Mike.
Airspeeders are essentially tow trucks thats why its just a harpoon its for towing also they have no cannons snow speeders had the "tusk" cannons added to give the cash strapped rebels a economy fighter basically they turned a space tow truck into a attack fighter...air speeder vs snowspeeder
(sigh) I bought 2 of them. Don't know where to store them. But I do also have a custom Wedge and his copilot so I have two separate teams to pilot both speeders. Also, I made a mold of Daks belt and use them for my other pilots.
Couple questions about the canopy. Do the viewports looks as foggy/semi-opaque in person as they do on camera? Is that some kind of alternate-source plastic Hasbro is using? And is the whole canopy cast clear and then painted over? What are the risks of scratching it and getting a clear spot where you don't want one?
Great vehicle! And I totally agree that light/sound feature would make this way cooler and price worthy. But I think hasbro intended to avoid enhanced features because they know that at some point, these figures will be on clearance. Awesome review! 🔥
I do agree that it is a bit too big; I think something the size of an AT-ST should be the limit. I'm hoping they do an AT-RT with one of those Kashyyyk camouflage clones
Nice review, and a very fair assessment I think. There is however little point in buying this and not having the Hoth pilot Luke to go with it. So what here in the UK is a £95 ($125) product, is really £115 ($152) as it is another £20 ($26) on top for the Luke figure. I know you could just buy the speeder, but how many collectors will do that and not see the need to have the Luke figure too??
"It's big and I don't know what to do with it" ~ That's what she said! Got mine from Dorkside, they have been late on every pre order I've done with them, can't blame you for the cancellation...
I really enjoyed your new video. Although after watching your video I don't think I want the snow speeder in my collection. It definitely needs lights and sound.
Mike, just wanted to say keep up the great work. I really appreciate the honesty/scoring in your reviews. I agree the tow-cable gun was a missed opportunity as well as no lights or sounds. Still, this will make a fine addition to my collection * coughs *
My kenner 3.3/4" scale s/speeder is still my fave vehicle so i REALLY want this one but the price is an issue plus I'll need a Hoth pilot Luke and some rebel soldiers to go with it and god knows if I can still get them anywhere....aaarrrgghh! So many factors and variables! Bollocks!
Great review of topic have you got the new Akbar I've just ordered one as far as the lights and sounds thay will probably do it again in a couple' of years and make you pay again thay no you will
If they made another with an exclusive Wedge, I'd buy that. I agree, it also should have come with a stand. I actually mention that in my notes, but forgot it when I was recording.
This Thing is AMAZING! Definitely My Favorite Piece in My Black Series Collection now. It literally looks like a Studio Scale Model. Like You said, if You told Me it was used for filming, I'd have believed You. The Amount of Sculpt and Detail is Flawless! There literally isn't a square inch on this thing that doesn't have sculpting. All of the little Nick's, Dings, Gouges, and Blast Marks look Great, but Hasbro went Above and Beyond with this thing. Even inside the Landing Gear Bays, the Back of their Covers, Under the Air Brakes, and the Back of the Removeable "Gimmick" Panel they Sculpted Detail where they really didn't have to. Then there's the Paint Detail. Again, they did a Fantastic Job! It literally looks like they Printed the Entire Surface of the Outside of this thing, because You Can't See or Feel any of the Painted areas being raised. I love that they didn't make the Cockpit Windows Clear also, as it adds to the Realism of the windows being Fogged Up by 2 Guys in a Cramped Space, Under the Pressure of Battle on an Ice and Snow Covered Planet. I, like You, also Love the Interior of the Cockpit. Again, the Sculpted detail is Incredible. All of the Diamond Quilted Insulation on the Roof of the Canopy and along the sides, with all of the Lights, Buttons, and Switches look Amazing. I do wish We had gotten Lights and Sounds, but I'm sure if Hasbro had added those the Price Point would have been closer to $200 given their Track Record. I'm completely fine with the $120 price I paid. I, like You, had One on Preorder for Months from Megalopolis, but got No Updates when it was going to ship, so like You, I also cancelled My Pre-Order and got it from Amazon the Next Day. I also feel like I'm doing My Part by Buying things like this at Full Price, Especially when I feel the Value is there. Which I've felt was the case with All of the Black Series Vehicles, Except the Tie Fighter. Which is something I Cannot Say for The Vintage Collection Vehicles. I paid the full $150 price for the Slave 1 and feel Ripped Off. There's No Way it was worth that. It's a $90 Toy, Tops! The same goes for the rest of the TVC Vehicles except Poe's Orange and White X-Wing and the Skiff. They were actually Worth their asking price. Keep up the Great Reviews and MTFBWY
God almighty. How you can write capitalizing every other word like that is beyond me. What is the purpose of doing that? I found it hard to focus on what you were saying....🤦♂️.
Love the T-47, love this toy! I'm just glad they made one & it looks great. Mine does'nt have a permanent home in my toy room yet, gotta figure that out yet. Not a bad problem to have😉
The flaw of the string plus the price is way too high. There is not that much plastic in this set, cetainly not worth buying at RRP. If it goes on sale during black friday it may come down far enough in price? Most places in Aust are selling it for 229aud. Should be closer to 150aud or lower. I find star wars pricing has been getting worse and worse since disney took over.
13:57. It was more of a Tow cable and less of a harpoon. If you look at the film it's magnetic. Wedge is awesome, inventive, and made use of what he had on hand. 15:37 😐. Some of us do enjoy detail in our figures. Toy photography is a thing. And I know you are aware of it. I can't tell if you were being phosecious or not, since you were using that feature in your photos 🤔
Oh you know that I know toy photography is a thing. But outside of the few hours I did a photo shoot with this thing, that opening side is probably never EVER going to get opened by me again. I'd would much rather trade off gimmicks like that with a working cab light or something, which would still be nice for toy photography.
josh blake yeah. He’s not big on letting people use his characters for merchandise. But also, I love this shirt so much, I only feel a tiny bit bad about it.
