Yep, Fennec is played by Ming-Na Wen (who also voiced her in The Bad Batch), she's an accomplished martial artist.

Remind Fennec made her first appearance here, and then they brought her back in Bad Batch. Which is why her animated character looks just like the actress.

As this came out before The Bad Batch this was the first appearance of Fennec Shand. Womp Rats are a creature native to Tattooine that even get mentioned in the very first movie. Dewbacks were also in A New Hope, easily missed in the original but shown off more since the special editions, they were ridden by the imperial sandtroopers looking for R2 and 3PO.

Ming Na Wen is a legend. I loved her as the original Mulan, Melinda May from Agents of SHIELD, and appearing as Fennec Shand in both live action and animated Star Wars.

Ming Na Wen is such an amazing actress! You should really watch Agents of SHIELD. She really shines in that show.

The last shot with Fennec's body and the unknown character who discovers her really builds the tension moving forward. I love how this series leaves little easter eggs from across the Star Wars galaxy and timeline for the deep-diver fans to discover upon multiple viewings. There is so much crossover, especially in the Disney+ limited television series, that meticulous fans always find new little gems.

Fennec is one of the few strong female characters created by Disney Star Wars that is not totally lame and artificially badass. So there's a difference between saying this character is cool, and showing that she's cool. I would love to see Aphra in a live action or anime series by the way...

The number of sentient species in the Galaxy are in the millions, The Republic had just a measly 25.000 planets in it. I imagine that if you lived on a fairly established planet, you'd probably see some random creature walking about that you didnt recognize quite often. If you lived or spent time on a core world like Coruscant, i bet no creature, no matter how strange or weird would probably ever even faze you. Baby Yoda is relatively humanoid after all and the fact that Baby Yoda is of Yodas species and their rarity, really only hold significance to the audience.

As others are saying, Fennec was a character created for this episode. People liked her character so they gave her some backstory in Bad Batch, which came out a year or two later.

3:10 womprat isn’t really an insult. It’s more of a term of endearment with them. Like rugrats. 6:13 there were only two other of that species in Star Wars since Episode 1. There was Yoda & Yaddle. Both on the Jedi council. 6:56 I love how they humanized the Tusken Raiders and used sign language as a way to communicate. The one Tusken using sign language is a deaf person that helped them with the language. If you saw Episode 4 (special edition version) you’ll see a Dewback in Mos Eisley and I believe in the desert when they were looking for the droids near the escape pod. 9:41 Ming-Ana Wen is amazing with fight scenes. Check her out in the tv series “Agents of Shield”. 12:58 that sound effect is from old westerns when the gunslinger had a duel with someone.

see, those spurrs... the only other time we hear spurrs in star wars is when Boba Fett walks around, but that can't be, because he was eaten by the Sarlacc! you can imagine the collective mind blown we all had on that last little scene. Fett is a fan favourite and this sparked the hopes that he might have survived the sarlacc.
