If I remember right, there was a thing where technology as a whole in Star Wars has kind of stagnated. There's also design philosophy, as Mandalorian armor has proven time and time again to be the superior way, so the Republic has based their armors off it whenever they had an actual military.

Kit you should definitely react to the original “Hope” and “Deceived” trailers. There dialog is much much stronger in them and they definitely help expand on the philosophy of the Sith and Republic at the time. Also this is probably my favourite Star Wars era. From the large scale battles between the Sith and republic, the fact that it’s not just clones vs droids by your everyday republic citizen soldiers fighting against your Sith warriors and imperial soldiers (battle droids are but a small supplement of both forces). But my favourite thing is the exploration between the Sith and Jedi and that in a way you do get a balanced perspective between the two. The Jedi are very much about control and “peace” but peace held at the cost of those that don’t fit into it - if they meet a race they consider to problematic they aren’t abhorrent to just kill it entirely - tho this era of Jedi also sees many of the rules of the old and future Jedi retracted - such as relationships. The Sith are very much strength and power make right, however one should also be ready to taken by there apprentice - you teach the weak to be strong and soon they will take your place through force, continuing not just there legacy but your own. It also explores how this ideal is being forgotten/abused by certain high ranking Sith, with them continuing to assassinate or mistrain their apprentices so they can never take over there positions, or the opposite problem where weak Sith are falling to dirty tactics to kill those above them weakening the power of the Empire.

Little detail but if you look at 20:45 you can see the sith eyes that formed go back to normal after he realizes what he did!

I've been a Star Wars nerd for almost 50 years. I've watched all the movies in the theater multiple times. I have all the OGs on VHS, I have a collection of books, comics, tabletop games, video games, toys, collectibles, halloween costumes, I have a bootleg tape of the Holiday Special, but every time Kit opens his mouth my brain just turns into Ogre from Revenge of the Nerds. Side note: The planet in the second trailer is Alderaan. The Sith ended up destroying it anyway so in the grand scheme of things, the Republic's fight was ultimately pointless.

the people taking out jedi and sith are another faction and if im remembering right its led by the emperor of the sith after faking his death. revan from knights of the old republic is also involved in here somewhere. the emperor had some grand plan to consume life in the galaxy to extend his own life and do force stuff. he kinda came off as a naïve child when i was going through this part of the game. so that said its been a long time since i played through the game and some things might be a bit off.

Pretty sure the whole "Old Republic" setting happens a thousand r possibly a few thousand years before the events around Palpatine.

Kit, keep in mind this is millennia before Yoda's failed ideology, the Jedi are not emotionless, aloof drones in this era. This is also long before Darth Bane instituted the Rule of Two, and the Sith are definitely a LOT more evil here.

The trailer with the 2 brothers. They are a part of the eternal empire who fought both the republic and the sith. The old republic was thousands of years before the original trilogy and the prequels. The reason both the sith and republic are so similar to their clone wars counterparts is because they are similar the clone army was meant to be a copy and pay homage to the old republic's armies that fought back the sith and mandalorians that's why the armor was similar. The sith empire did have droids but they also had foot soldiers. I haven't played the old republic but i have played kotor 1 and 2. I like the sith because they do not hide emotions, emotions are a big part of both the human psyche and humanity as a species the jedi force their members to suppress those emotions and tell those of their order to be selfless while they become stagnant and hypocritical during the clone wars. They all became clouded by the dark side and militaristic they wage wars on the sith purely because their beliefs. The jedi kidnap force sensitive children from their homes and families and cast out those who aren't worthy or dont adhere to their beliefs that is why they are hypocrites they have do evil things in the name of good just to grow their numbers

Those weren't clones in the trailers, they were actually real people who joined the military. Clones started way later in the future.

Armour from Clones and old republic soldiers is so similar because Kamino, planet where clones are being produced, only have blueprints back to that time. Kamino is a planet located out of the galaxy or at least outside the outer rim, thats why they had zero to low contact with anything following the fall of the old republic. This changed with clones wars and new Phase 2 armours.

Btw, in the original Star Wars Episode 9 script Rey was supposed to have a 2 sided blue lightsaber, like Satele has in the first 2 trailers. That would have been really cool I think.

4:41 technically every force user is a hypocrite. If I remember a specific piece of lore correctly, the Jedi used to use BOTH sides of the force for that gave a person balance and didn't go to extremes.

Well kit this was the Old Republic and they were using the force to their full potential. It was only during the clone wars era that they were not using the force to their full potential. I mean they were doing all kinds of weird stuff with it you know making four storms Force healing teleporting walking through. walls they were using the force to their full potential it's just that. during the reign of the clone wars things kind of calm down. And don't get me started doing the sith wars the first sith wars with the species known as the sith they were doing all kinds of weird stuff. And were able to do all kinds of freaky Dickies things with. the force no wonder they kind of calm down and forbid a few techniques. Heck from The Old Republic the Jedi invented blasters that could be used with lightsabers as the ammo. Particularly banned because you know it ate away at lightsabers and it wasn't very useful. and never really saw the light of day and combat.

Love that me and Kit are on the same side of their war, being the Sith, even if our reasons for being so are different. On a serious note, for Kit since ya seemed more invested, what are your thoughts on the small scene around 12:40? Specifically the part where Satele Shan blocks his attack in a lightsaber lock, then proceeds to telegraph her force action of pulling a tree so they both move and continue fighting? In my own personal opinion, I feel that scene could have been choreographed a bit better. Mainly in that when they're locked together, if I was in her position, I'd have cut power to the right blade (we've seen how most double-bladed sabers have individual power switches as a common practice), which would then cause minor confusion to Malgus as he'd likely stumble forward slightly, and then turn the right side back on and either try to get in a hit or use the opportunity to force push him into a tree or cliff face. I absolutely LOVE all the cinematics for the game, but that one scene in that one cinematic has always irked me since it's such an obvious telegraph to Malgus, who's locked in with her blade while looking down onto her from above slightly. The chances of anyone being able to see her reach out in a direction to pull something to them is very high in such a situation, whereas simply moving your hand slightly to shut off one of her blades would be significantly less noticeable, in my opinion. I'd like to know your thoughts on it though, Kit!

Awesome, I hate the jedi as well and always have. All of my toons on SWTOR are Imperial, except the jedi that I have made that betray the jedi way.

It's a matter of philosophy the sith Montra is just how a person will go about a task passion to do it strength to push urself thro it the power to persevere and the victory once the task is complete only problem with them is they never feel at peace bc to them peace is a lie so never feel satisfied after doing something always wanting more. Ironically enough the sith empire was very radical on giving anyone a chance to rise our of their chains a slave who's force sensitive can become sith even a darth if they push hard enough

Kit seems to love fictional autocrat regimes where a normal person can be brutally executed for simply having a different opinion... at least in fiction xD Yet he was sad to see arcann Kill his brother, the only viable way of freeing himself from this sibling bond that most sith would see as a weakness and destroy it. Ok technically the Eternal Empire wasnt the sith empire but theyr emperor is literally the same one Just possessing multiple bodies.
