Star Wars Unlimited - Showdown at Dragon's Lair, Finals - Rey Vigilance v. Qi'ra Command 

Nick here, the Rey Blue player. Thanks so much for streaming the event! I had a great time and was thrilled I was able to make top cut for the first time. I’ve never played any TCG before so that was a big accomplishment for me. I don’t have any excuses for my bad performance in the finals. It was a long day and I made some bad mistakes against Cody (who is a fantastic player that had already beaten me earlier in the day) and got too inside my own head and played poorly overall. However, I am practicing and doing my best to get better everyday! 🤓

Did he look with R2? Did he draw with yoda?

I understand there is a lot of pressure in a finals match, but Nick didn't look at a single card off of r2 in either match. Could have helped a little.

This was rough to watch.

Hey just watched the match. Well done to both player for topping. I personally know this matchup extremely well. The Rey player did alright but unfortunately the deck wasn’t optimised to deal with the Qi’ra. After looking at the list, the Rey deck was very interesting but it was missing a lot of sentinels. People do forget that Rey is a defensive deck. She is more powerful when she is protected by other stuff, especially when going against ECL players. Rey needs to be able to trade positively. So the big things that need to happen to win these matchups are takedowns. You need to have a takedown for that Qi’ra. Playing 2 is not enough. I’ve started experimenting with 3 takedowns and 2 vigilances which has been going well. It’s natural to want to run 3 vigilance’s but takedown just does more in a majority of matchups. The idea is you put out as much as you can (ideally Kuiil) if not r2 to c3 combo. They will 9/10 either resupply or ecl SLT or just play SLT and attack next turn as 1st action with initiative. At this point you basically need to make every as strong as possible or go wide with a healthy hand. You takedown the Qi’ra immediately after they play it (or kill if you play the force is with me and have a 2 power unit). Then after that the only thing you need to worry about are the big units in those colours. Vader, mail, smoke, avenger, relentless or devastator. It will always be a combo of those types of units. Which you meet in kind with removal. It’s important that you don’t overcommit in these matchups and take advantage of the super laser blast as they will have the avenger in hands. This is why Rey needs more sentinels in the deck. You need to protect Rey to benefit from the healing and easy power boost she gives. Putting down Obiwan in these matchups do not provide safety.

Nick should've played the Rey before the Obi-Wan. Rukh only auto-kills non-leader units with an attack so Rey was safe to absorb Rukh's damage or the ambushing Vader. When Obi dies he would've then had the opportunity to buff Rey and draw a card.

Very questionable performance by nick here. Missed a lot of beneficial triggers on his end and sequencing with damage. Also, why not deploy Rey on six resources?

Hmm how did the Rey deck make it so far. No good combo, just random units.
