Wonderful review!! I have this in Brushed Carbon and a wood Carbon sprint both 2021. I choose brushed carbon for the allstar as in bumps and chop quick accelerations are much more important and you do notice a differnece more than in flat water. Hats off for Sup Company doing the review but also acknowledging how amazingly versitile the Sprint is. If you race mostly flat water and light chop and dont downwind that much its the ticket. So easy, predictatble and fast. The 2021 AS is wonderful, it catchs bumps better than any past allstar, you can even surf it in small waves and it response rail to rail. Its almost effortless to paddle, feels like its hovering over the water. Again SUP company also nails some subtleties to the design like how its just more manuaverable and responsive everywhere vs past designs - those big concaves were stable but hindered most everything else from low speed turning to speed in chop. Always a good board but this is Starboards biggest refinement in the Allstar since 2016.

Great review! The 2019 All Star 24.5 was perfect size for me. I got the 2020 and couldn’t handle the reduced stability. You said 2021 is better, but is 2021 back to same stability as 2019??

Thanks for sharing and watching. The new dugout design of the Allstar certainly makes it more comparable to that of the 2019 / single concave era type boards but with more peformance making the boards faster for the reasons we cover in the video - reduced rocker, narrower nose, pulled in tail etc. The 2021 Allstar (and the new 2022 model about to launch) are huge improvements on the outgoing design principle of single concave is best.

Good question I would say secondary stability is as good or better. Primary stability though is less than 2019 or earlier big concave models (I owned a 2019 Allstar in 23.5 and previous 2018 in 24.5) 2022 is said to have more primary stability - aka less wobble from the rolled bottom so you may be best served by a 2022 model. While I have a 23.5 Sprint and 26 Allstar I may sell both and just do a 24.5 2022 Allstar and a Generation for my wife/sml surf since the Allstar is now so darn quick everywhere. Do you believe the full carbon is worth the additional 1k cost? My local shop has both carbon and wood carbon and am unsure if the price premium is worth it.

Thanks watching Drew and the question. For us, it is a tough call... the way we see it is that at 1k it is a very expensive 1kg + saving for a board that is also marginally stiffer. Performance wise; yes, the carbon sandwich in the right hands is better for all of the obivous reasons that come from reduced weight and a stiffer build. But and it is a big but... could you take the saving, still have a superb performance / race board and then a new high performance paddle or two or even a Starboard Lite Tech Wedge surf shape for some fun in the surf (assuming you are near some waves). The other thing to consider is residual value; carbon sandwich boards depriciate at a much, much higher rate than wood carbon. The longer you hold onto the board, the longer the term that you will spread the depreciation but if you change out every couple of years, then the losses can be big on carbon sandwich. Appreciate this isn't answer as such and instead an opinion. We are big fans of the Wood Carbon construction and the lower price point as it puts real performance shapes within reach of more people. @@TheSUPCompany this was a great question and answer! I am currently trying to decide the exact same thing. I wish I could see a test comparison. I’ve been on carbon sandwich starboards for 5 years, and they have been wonderful( minus last years model). I do race a lot here on the east coast of the U.S. I win, I lose, but I do wonder if an intermediate would notice the difference between the 2 at 24.5. Such a difficult decision, the price of wood carbon is very hard to beat...

My question is regarding width. Have you ridden the 24.5”, 26”, & 28”? I’ve not ridden a dugout but have been on a few different styles and widths. I’m about 110kg at the moment, and I want the board that is most comfortable, but can also hang is some distance races. Is there a big difference between the widths considering the dugout?

Hi Christopher, thanks for watching. Yes, there is most certainly a large difference in the widths as it is not just the width of the board that changes but also other features within the design. Given your overall weight of 110kg volume is also a consideration as well as the conditions you paddling in and your ends goals from such a board.
