Love how even Leoben backs away when he sees the dogtag. Even that situation is too frakked up for him

Even though I was greatly disappointed by the final season and the way things ended, this scene successfully made me feel something. Mostly horror, and empathy for this version of Kara. This whole time, we had been wondering if this is really her. It's obviously someone with all her memories who thinks she's Kara. By this point, we had been with her long enough as an audience that we had kind of accepted her as Kara. Maybe memories are what make us who we are, after all. But then seeing that body. Seeing that charred and decayed corpse, with the exposed white teeth, empty eye sockets, and even her hair, and thinking ''holy hell, that's ACTUALLY Starbuck. The Kara we've loved all these seasons is that corpse right there, and she has been since we saw her ship explode. All this faint hope that she was returned, alive, was wrong''. THAT hit me hard. And as if that wasn't disturbing enough, then come the hard questions. WHO and WHAT is this Kara? How did the original Starbuck end up on this Earth? What does the prophecy about her leading humanity to its death mean in light of this? For all its flaws, this was a one of kind show. Nothing like has been made before or since, and I miss feeling those kinds of emotions from fiction.

Leoben started walking away and never stopped. He almost disappears after this scene.

Not an angel but an avatar. The angels could influence people but not interact with the world itself. Kara could do both. The creators purpose brought to life. She led them to a place where they had an opportunity to break the cycle of oppression, violence and death. She then vanished, her purpose fulfilled. What we make of our opportunity is up to us. Not doing so well, so far.

Starbuck is an angel , messenger , guide ...a universal constant ...even witb my scientific mind , ive seen things i cannot explain

The title is a major understatement, unsettling discovery, that's like saying delivering 4 when expecting 1 is a slight surprise

Whatever happens with this reboot, it’s not topping this show, all-time great Sci-Fi.

The Resurrection of Kara Thrace In Battlestar Galactica Season 3 episode "Maelstrom", Kara Thrace vanishes mysteriously along with her Viper within a violent maelstrom around a gas giant planet. In the final scene before Kara disappears into the maelstrom, it's clear that even if she were to somehow survive, her Viper is starting to break up and will not make it back to Galactica intact. When Kara miraculously returns to Galactica several months later, she is piloting an undamaged Viper and claims she has been to Earth, but has no recollection of the months during which she had been missing. In the cockpit of her Viper a homing beacon flashes, presumably indicating the location of Earth. Galactica tracks the signal to a dead planet that had been nuked 2000 years earlier, where Kara finds a wrecked Viper containing her own corpse. Galactica subsequently discovers a verdant planet identified as a prehistoric version of our own Earth, where Kara once again vanishes without a trace. Whether Kara was a human, a Cylon, a ghost, or an angel is one of numerous puzzles left unexplained in the series finale. Here is a theory that explains Kara Thrace's resurrection without resorting to supernatural intervention. It relies on relativistic time travel via wormhole, a not unreasonable conjecture in a universe where instantaneous Faster Than Light physics are employed for routine space travel. 1. After Kara vanishes into the maelstrom, she encounters a spacetime wormhole and blacks out as it transports her to a decaying orbit around nuked Earth. After recovering conciousness, she visually identifies the planet while her ship records its coordinates, activating its homing beacon. She then flies back through the wormhole, not realizing that months of time have relativistically elapsed during her return flight. 2. Galactica tracks down the nuked planet via the homing beacon, and there Kara discovers a wrecked Viper. In the Viper's cockpit she discovers a corpse and removes a charred copy of her own dogtags from around its neck. This is the corpse of her future self, who is destined to fly once more into the maelstrom. The wormhole will then hurl her back in time to crash on the nuked planet, a few months before it is tracked down by Galactica. 3. Kara gives her corpse's charred dogtags to Baltar on Galactica. Months later, Galactica discovers verdant Earth, and the colonists set about decomissioning their spacecraft. Kara realises that it is time for her to return to the maelstrom in her Viper and fulfill her destiny. 4. Kara uses the wormhole to travel back in time to rendevous with her past self in a decaying orbit around nuked Earth. At that point in time, her past self has blacked out, her Viper has suffered irreparable damage, and it is doomed to eventually crash into the planet. To prevent that fate from happening to past-Kara, future-Kara docks with the disabled Viper, drags unconscious past-Kara out of that ship and exchanges Vipers with her, leaving past-Kara to regain consciousness later in the undamaged Viper and discover nuked Earth. After past-Kara returns to Galactica through the wormhole, future-Kara rides the disabled Viper down to crash into the planet. It is only later that past-Kara will reconstruct what happened and recognize that she is destined to become her own guardian angel.

I thought Leoben's reaction after mentioning she was the harbinger of death was excellent. What if she were an even more advanced Cylon with the ability to resurrect, one that the other models, etc never knew existed? There's nothing to say there aren't other, significantly more advanced versions that were leaps and bounds ahead of what was seen on the show.

I've always wondered what Kara was, maybe she was an angle like "6" was to Baltar and how Baltar was to Caprica 6

Love this show ! One of the best tv series ever made.

First time I saw this, I was confused. Each and every time since then, I am still confused.

And she was the harbinger of death. The end of the 12 colonies, the cylons. They both ended because of her.

Well, I must've missed this episode. So it was confirmed that Starbuck was somehow a ghost or resurrected or something.

I mean in the world where cylons get resurrected all the time she somehow has no idea :D

This part never made sense. They never fully explained this. So was starbuck a ghost or something??

And just like that Leoben is over Starbuck. 😂

This is about the point where one of the most exciting sci-fi shows of all-time went off the rails

The entire final season was messed up.

To be honest, here i lost track...

I loved that the show was grounded in reality. Then this kooky stuff ruined it.

This is the moment BS in "BSG" goes from "Battlestar" to just BS.

Part human ...part cylon that was able to resurrect

This show got a little too religiousy

The show was amazing until this point, then it proceeded to fly off the rails.

Hated this part of the story. Made more sense she was a Cylon.

The original series was better.
