I Love making doilies using thread. I had never tried it, so I ordered a BUNCH of different color threads and that was the beginning of my love affair with making doilies. I made some for one of my sister's and she was amazed and said I should be going to craft fairs selling my works! I told her that I only wanted to make them for myself, family and friends. She thought I was crazy but I don't want to be with that type of pressure and I didn't want to do only doilies. I make baby blankets for my own grandchildren, and also my husband's employees as a gift. I've been making The Midwife Blanket in a bone color for the boys, and pink or orchid for the girls. Sometimes I've been known to make a dress 👗 for the girls. Depending on my mood. I'm on my 2nd baby blanket for the same girl who works for my husband. Then I promised my sister in Oregon some beanie's, scarves, and a few doilies. So thanks for this tutorial and giving me the inspiration for making some doilies, it's been over a year since making those with thread. Have been depressed after losing a granddaughter at birth so I haven't picked up a hook in a Long Time, until my husband's employee got pregnant with a girl. So I'm working on the border. When looking back it was the classic round coaster that goes with your oval coaster, I did that like you with two cream and two pink placemats and changed the centre of the coasters to two pink and two cream, thank you again for your wonderful teaching

Hi Ann, these are 12 pointed, and I find that 8 pointed motifs are generally easier to join into larger projects (like tablecloths) but you could certainly still join these, you might just need a few more fancy "join" stitches or chains in between each motif 😊

Beautiful pattern, I am planning on making placemats and coasters for my new house when we move in Summer, but I was thinking about making them with Tshirt Yarn as it seems like it might be more durable? do you have any advice on this, not sure I could achieve an intricate pattern like this with tshirt yarn but do you have any other pattern recommendations for basic tshirt yarn placemats, or do you think I should just use different yarn? Thanks!

Hi! T-shirt yarn would definitely be thicker than this and your placemats would be MUCH bigger. You could try making only the first 7 rows of this pattern (which would give you a little Sun-like effect) OR, using that yarn and a 6.50 mm hook, try making a set of these: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JogzQjvobfk.html
