There is actually an 11th ship. As you know you can run across derelict ships in space none of which you can take because they are damaged beyond repair. There is one however called a "Derelict Renegade" which I found. I'm not sure if the ship type is random or what , but is a huge multi story hauler type ship C -Class. The story onboard if you read the notes is the oxygen supply went out and the crew all died because of lack of repair parts.... which the ship is chalk full of. You then have to feed a number of repair parts into a terminal along with one adaptive frame and bingo you got a huge ship with 4000+ cargo, 1020 shields and 6 crew stations. Once you upgrade the weapons its basically a battleship.
When capturing ships register them thru the player menu. This will save 20ish% of the register cost. Which will let you sell ships for a much better profit margin.
@@RandomZeroGravity i can see why you think that, but ive seen it a time or two. not every time. also anyone know what happens to ur excess cargo when u switch to s hip with next to no storage? is it just deleted?
@@trillyzb The excess cargo still goes into your new ship anyway, so you can end up with e.g. 1000/500 cargo space. You won't be able to add anything manually to your ship's cargo until you sell off the excess, but you won't lose anything.
@@trillyzb That's why I say it's random generated. Not sure to what excess cargo, you can try and do it, I would guess it will give a warning that there is not enough storage in the target ship. Something like that.
@@trillyzbits moves to whatever is your home ship but beware if you have like 500 cargo and switch to a ship with say 300 cargo it will max it out and it will say 500/300 cargo. So you don't lose anything you just can't add more to that storage until you swap back to a bigger ship. Hope that helps :)
If you start with the Bounty Hunter background you can capture one of the Crimson Fleet ships from the tutorial. No the greatest but it only costs around 5000 to register it so you'll have lots of money for upgrades and rebuilding.
I was doing the quest where you have to save Barret and Heller and was at the part where you find Heller doped out on painkillers by the crashed ship. I noticed another ship nearby so I went to check it out. I boarded it and tried to interact with the cockpit just to see if it would let me. It did, but I felt guilty for messing with someone else's ship so I exited the ship and noticed an npc nearby with her lizard dog pet. She proceeded to tell me that her pet and her ship are all that she has to remember her dead mother. It was only when I returned and boarded the Frontier that the game told me I now own that ship. I almost shed a tear at the realization of what I had done. And the npc made no mention of it when I spoke with her afyer being on her ship. I expect a band of hired assassins to track me down any day now. TL; DR: I accidentally stole a random npc's memento of her dead mother
Oh shit… I’ve stolen 2 of her ship! She had like a lizard-dog thing, and I didn’t see her both times and I just went and stole it. Then I saw her walking around when the ship was taking off. She had a Transpo and a Kfir in my game.
Straight to the point with zero blather. Don't get me wrong, blather can be entertaining, but for something like this, the direct approach is far superior. Nice work!
Of the ships listed I have 3 of them in my current (first) playthrough. The Star Eagle is so far the best ship by far. I'd argue that it's actually OP for it's ship class (it's considered Class A). I was underwhelmed by the Mantis' ship (the Razorleaf). The best thing about that quest was the Mantis uniform itself, the Razorleaf needed more upgrades then the Frontier, which is saying something (at the risk of bragging, my Frontier would run rings around the Razorleaf). What I will give the Razorleaf is the weapons.
Agreed, the Razorleaf is trash. I've completely rebuilt and renamed mine, doesn't share a single part with the original, but I still get the random Mantis interactions.
The best thing about the Razorleaf is the intimidation factor. People run screaming "Mantis" when it shows up. HINT: If you keep the hab, you keep the intimidation factor so you can change everything else.
@@jackflash6377 you don't even need the hab, it just has to have been that ship to begin with. There's not a single part of the Razorleaf left on my ship, but I still get the Mantis encounters.
I randomly found a open UC Narcissus on Luna at the fracking station in the beginning of the game. It's one of the best ships I've found so far. I upgraded it and now it's a beast
Too true. I built my ship off the sparrow and it’s *the* best Class A ship I’ve ever seen, could even rival and/or best some Class Bs Only downside is the mobility I’ve sacrificed to get a cargo of around 1600 (plus some extra shield cargo) (I got the skills to boost it to currently just under 1900) But then again. I also shut the engines off every space fight just to properly power the weapons, so mobility isn’t sooo extremely important (although trying to find the target to aim at can be a pain) Honestly, I usually suck at building everything and it all just ends up looking like a cube usually (or whatever abomination comes out usually looks ugly AF anyways) but I really built an honest to good star cruiser for once, something I could see being flown in Star Trek even (not the giant ships, mind you, but still, I proud 😁) Oh, and to the first reply, absolutely this! My ship’s cannibalized the default Sparrow’s engines and special cargo, something I’d need 1-2 points in the specific perk to unlock. Getting to the point of unlocking those soon so they may become moot, but my ship is possible thanks to those OP yet small powered Engines and far larger storage :D
agree, i sell all frontier part and replace with a new powerful parts. dont forget to lvl piloting skill to C class first. for me the first priority upgrade is SHIELD, ENGINE, and LASER. i dont recommended building huge storage cause mobility slowed.
Only nice thing about the free ones is if you know what you want on your new ship already, you can start with a ship that shares parts to save money. Especially on engines and reactors
I spent waaay too much time taking the Kepler apart and rearranging the pieces into something remotely aesthetically pleasing. The end result...was the Leviathan.
@4:00 for me personally, I didn't have the ship space for the escort mission and when choosing the compromise dialogue option it heavily implied that I was about to get the lesser Kepler. Reloaded, still really didnt want to spend the credits on extra room on my fighter ship, Mantis, especially while in pursuit of my ideal larger ship. So I still disregarded the escort but chose the option for "team building" a few hilarious positive affirmations and a trip to Walter later I had the better Kepler. TL,DR: You dont have to do the escort for the Kepler R, just make sure you do the team building exercise instead of the compromise option. At least worked for me.
If you can get to a Starborn ship as the Starborn are exiting, you can actually get into the ship and take it without ever going into NG+, sometimes its by chance they land near you, I had to use a trainer to increase my running speed to get to one in time, boarded it, and flew off whilst the Starborn were still on the wing.
@@kowalski202 Normally yeah but if you can get to one just as it lands and whilst the Starborn are exiting, then you can get in. I know this because I've done it and have a Guardian VI despite being on my first playthrough.
@@ModestlyAmazing The general technique I've seen for doing this is load up on accelerants - Auroa, Runner's Rush, etc - and dash as quickly a inhumanly possible to get to the Guardian ship as it lands.
I found a Crimson Fleet Ghost ship sitting in the field somewhere, don't remember where anymore but somewhere close to the level 1 stars. When I boarded it I was told ship was mine if I killed the crew. They were all sitting in their seats in the cockpit so it wasn't very hard lol
I stole a nice UC cargo ship right after they landed on another planet but the downside is if you steal a ship you have to register it if you decide to sell it which also costs money but just have fun with it everyone because this game has something for everyone and I love it way more than I had ever anticipated.
My first playthrough I did the Mantis questline. I never had to upgrade my armor through the entire game. I did upgrade parts to the ship before finishing the main quest.
Me Stuck there and also trying to do Mantis - keep running into "unexplored path" warnings - having to just jump around to try and find a clear path and then getting attacked/distracted by side missions. Getting by, by trying to steal ships on random planets - but keep getting UC or colony ships and I'd feel bad killing them and taking off. (might do it on a "bad guy" run with a different character. Just managed to grab a couple of ships, so far, from Ecliptic and Spacer - and I'm also happy top steal from Crimson at the moment. Still trying to get the hang of boarding in space - think I need to swap ballistic weapons out for EMP/Lasers to reduce hull damage and avoid just blowing them up.
Don't listen to his advices for Kepler R! Give the "not bad, but ..." feedback to the engineers, so that the team building option will unlock, and choose the team building meditation. During that, use the first option always, and you'll get the Kepler R!
I found a ship just parked outside a relay station or something on the planet that you go to before new Atlantis to deal with the Crimson fleet. It wasn't there dropping off enemies but I did have to kille the Eclipse mercs inside it.
been trying to get ships from every faction. got galactic fleet and stiletto. though, the stiletto ship was big af. customs to firepower, shield strength, reactor type, engine power, fuel, grav drive...and gets increased to "holy shit, that's op".
So the first ship on Jaffa, I had to leave the ship to make it to Wolf to sell all the contraband. Went back to see if I could get it cause after sitting in the seat then leaving, didn't claim the ship. Well I end up having to run through the base again cause I had waited so many times at wolf from selling all the loot. The contraband in the chest are there again. I have the keys to the cells and rooms so that was easier. All the chest been refreshed. So double the XP and some extra contraband if you wanna run through it again.
some of the ship u can easily get them when u go to another planet or moon Here is how u do it Step 1 see any ship trying to land near at running distance. Step 2 see if they are spacer or glatic something or varun bad people Step 3 if u like the ship design just sneak in the ship while its on ground and steal it Step 4 dont worry about any opponent on the ground only take care of the ones inside once they are attacked the ship will run away leaving them behind so easy target
You have to be careful with the Datura though. I had it once despawn when I was on the eye, leaving me stranded there. Apparently this ship is bugged, sometimes it just goes back to the place where you got it. And unfortunatelly the game knows when you have no ship, meaning fast travel does not work. Only fast travel to your ship works, but the ship is when the bug strikes not there.. so you fast-travel in a white room and fall for eternity into nothingness. You can however go to a ship technician and switch to another home ship or if on another planet steal someones ship and fly away with that one. Wasn't possible for me though, because "lucky" 😫😫 I really like the Datura, but I will never set food on it ever again due to this bug.
I managed to get the ship from my Dad's poker game, but so far I'm really digging customizing my own ships. I've snagged a Varuun ship that I turned into my cargo transport and a Crimson ship that I'm trying to make into my fighter.
I'm slightly perplexed that anyone would use a prebuilt ship when the most fun thing to do in this game is design your own - but to each their own I suppose. Haven't used a prebuilt ship since I landed on Jemison for the first time, earned enough credits to build my own through side quests and never looked back. Now I have a class-C 3500+ mass Deimos battlecruiser, and it's friggin awesome.
i don't know where to begin when it comes to building a ship the downside of building your own is the astronomical costs a reactor can cost up to 1 million i don't mind adding a few upgrades to a already existing ship probably gonna do that to my razorback or star eagle when i get it
@@deathhulk8860My whole ship cost less than 400k, and for my level it's as top of the line as I can make it - fully decked out with particle beams, missiles and rear facing turrets, the best shield, biggest reactor, best grav drive... and IMHO it looks awesome compared to most ships in game, which I find either ugly or boring.
Think I messed up the Datura one, I didn't get it via the Ryujin mission, then when I found it again they fired on me, I disabled the ship, boarded it and they didnt fire on me when I boarded. So I killed her anyway, but it still wouldnt let me take the ship. Disappointed, I just blew it up and flew off haha.
Actuality you can get a starborn ship in the normal game by stealing it. No need to NG+ so the only thing you give up is the armor of NG+ I have a couple of characters that will never go to NG+ as i find it to be quite a waste of time. My game at NG+ 10 is pretty much the same as the first one, except everyone is there, and im married to two chicks at the same time. 😂
I got the guardian ship early(first playthrough), and it's trash. What's worse, is you're not supposed to be able to get it, so I'm stuck with it. When I first started getting attacked by starborn, I found one parked climbed around on it till I found an intractable opening and get inside and took it. When I got back out, it said inaccessible, but was still in my ship list, so I registered it. Now I'm stuck with it wasting a slot. I much prefer my Kusanagi over the guardian ship.
You only need to do the combat mission to get the Kepler R. I got it just by doing only the combat mission. The rest of what you said about it is true though.
You can get the NG+ ship for free early on too. Not sure if its been mentioned, but when the Starborn start chasing you and land near you (getting the artifacts), run to their ship and enter it, sit down in the cockpit, done. (And register it of course)
Obtaining either free ship's or just comindering those on various planet's have only one usefullness. Unless one is in search of a particular to call home. Because it's free, the only money you get when selling is about 15% of what you actually paid for the ship, meaning only the licenses. Stocking ship's after obtaining them true value is in the ability to salvage the varios part's in the updating of your home ship. Basically just an available to you and you alone your own private junk yard.
As a warning to all players seeking Mission-Specific ships like the Datura, Dagger and Dumas. They have a high rate of 'abandonment', trapping you on a planet unless you have a ship services tech. I do not believe that as of the time of this comment that this bug has been fixed.
Newbie question, before I try any of these: I go on a mission with the Frontier, find a new ship, can I keep both the Frontier and the new one, as I can only fly away with one?
yes, once you land your new ship somewhere, it becomes your home ship. You can then go to the ship technician and make the frontier your home ship again.
Im still on my first play thru dont steal a Guardian ship cuz then u cant sell it. at least i dont know how to sell it it says i cant do it right now when i try.
I didnt see a point in keeping the raptor, honestly, a "Specialized" combat ship versus something that can do combat just as a well and serves every other practical need is far more effective.
The main mission "Into The Unknown" for me is bugged. After going to the Eye, the objective simply says "Go To [ . . . ]" When I select it, there's no quest marker, and even if I go to the planet it's supposed to be on, there's nothing there. Does anyone know of a possible fix for this other than reloading an earlier save? I have put hundreds of more hours into the game even after this glitch, so I really do not want to have to completely wipe all of my time and progress.
^ THIS! If you are in the landing area near where the quest sends you, get out your scanner, head in the general direction, and look for the scanner to go glitchy. The glitchier it gets, the closer you are.
I got a free ship by leaving New Atlantis on foot, finding some of them enemy outposts, clearing it, and just taking the ship. I think you can get a bunch of ships this way, or going on random moons and planets. I was about to get another one on a Saturn's moon by killing some settlers, but to access the cockpit, I needed a digipick, which I sadly ran out of, so I guess I wasted those innocent settlers lives for nothing
Not really, there is a bug that if you get a bug ship, before stealing or after stealing it, and rebuild, it will fly away. So technically not all. Not until when the dev fix it.
guardian ship is crap for sure. i stole guardian 5 and it even dont have place to take nap inside also no cargo space no workshops nothing. and in combat its not that great too frontier with upgraded weapons and engines is way better than guardian for sure
4:11 Please explain the "exploration" part i must have missed that game play loop in my 10 NG+ runs. As far as i could tell there is ZERO space exploration making "space" ships useless.
Probably because to explore in starfield you basically just travel to planets and their moons. Basically an ideal exploration ship has big ass guns for any surprises when you drop out of your grav jump, and a maxxed out grav jump distance. Ideally you will also have the storage to look said surprises, with places to hid the contraband you loot. I made a ship that's super light and small but has a huge class c engine and grav drive, and we'll as decked it out in weapons to melt any foe. Unless I'm transporting goods, it's my go to for going anywhere because it's more maneuverable than all my other ships making dog fights quite one sided.
Listen here just side with crimson fleet and your swimming in credits dont worry UC vanguard missions are still available you wont need free ships build whatever you want with credits, you can land on any planet and raid any base thats got crimson fleet guarding it without a wurry do it as many times as you want ur laughing
I don't know if it was randomly generated, but in my playthrough, on Jemison, right outside the walls of New Atlantis behind where your ship is parked, there was a farm with a woman, her pet alien, and her ship called the Hulker. The ship was just sitting there with the door unlocked and the keys in the ignition, so I did the responsible thing and took it to teach her the importance of proper security measures. Easiest free ship I could get early game before even going to the Lodge, and nicely made up for the lack of cargo space on the Frontier.
If you move more than 2-3km away from New Atlantis everything beyond that is a random seed again like other planets you land on. I had a Eclipse merc repair yard where I was able to steal 2 ships lol. The ships were crap and not worth much but hey, 2 free ships.
Yep, they're a travelling trader called Paisley Hopkins who can randomly show up when you're landed on a planet. For me she had a Thresher, which has a ton of cargo space and some really powerful EM weapons, but it handled like a boat.
Outside of Akila City, by the automated farm, is a UC Vanguard Raptor. Not sure if you have to join the UC. I ran into early wandering around outside the city walls. Came back later and took off in it, but at that time, I had joined.
The Mantis Questline note will show up from random Spacers BEFORE the second quest. It just has to be dropped by a Spacer in general. I actually got it one time before I left the tutorial mission planet because I decided to just look around in the area near the abandoned science facility you fight the Crimson Fleet for the first mission at. But the area around that location is semi-random.
Yea, when I heard about the mantis quest being a super early quest I looked up where to get the item. Sure as shit I didn't loot any notes because I had no idea they could contain a quest, so I didn't get it. I flew back to the original quest location and got one off a spacer right away.
@@michaeldebidart Even if they weren't new to Bethesda games--which is even more likely as this is a new IP--sometimes people just miss some things. I don't know why you sound shocked by that.
You can get the Dumas in Sam Coe's personal quest line, but it is very buggy so save before you board. The quest will have going to get one item from the ship. You can blow the ship up and loot the item and everyone is happy. You can also board the ship, kill the crew and take it. The problem is Sam will sometimes "Hate" when someone is killed and then get "angry". He even did it once when he was the one that killed them lol. You can't dismiss him because it is his quest. The way I did it was to make him wait in the docking bay, stay crouched the while I killed the crew, and take the ship before looting the captain's safe because apparently he hates that too. On top of all that sometimes 2 or 3 of the crew will spawn above the ceiling. You can use sense star stuff to spot them and can shoot them in the bottom of the foot, but sometimes they get knocked back to where you can no longer hit them. That's where the saving before boarding comes in. Every thing on the ship rolls when you board including the enemies and their lvls. I ended up getting 2 low lvl enemies spawn above that I was able to one shot and clear the ship.
I got the guardian ship sorta early. When they started coming around more often to attack me, I was able to catch one landing on a random planet, used stims to move real fast and board it before the starborn appeared.
