I am making a Space Goblin Outlaw Mechanic. Since I am a Goblin I made my stealth drone out of an old eight ball I found and attached cameras, small antenna and spider legs to a hollowed out body. I named it Atebaal.
the thing that gets me is only being able to repair 10% of your drone per day or spending 24 hours rebuilding it. it would seem your character is only fully operational every 24 hours as compared to other classes that should be ready after a long rest. Any thoughts on this?
@@jitterg for me it helped my rp, it felt like the mad scientist needed some time his own for tinkering. That being said, i wouldnt mind it being more consistent. Like old black and white movies, gives it a certain charm but if it had been filmed in colour you probably wouldnt complain.
Love the is class. If I every play it I''m going with an exocortex. I just like the idea of a implant more then a drone following me around. The drone is extremely useful don't get me wrong it's just a preference. Love the show.
Currently making a Low Gravity Vesk with the Combat Drone and making it a tank. No seriously, a literal TANK. With a Reaction Cannon, some nades, and driving it around shooting people from it without needing to get out. It has Deadly Aim, Weapon Specialization, and Slippery Shooter so it is going to be hard to bit me. And I am justing blasting people.
Just made a Haan Mechanic with a Stealth Drone and got it approved by my GM, haven't started campaigning yet but I really enjoyed all the options in the creation process, makes it feel very unique early on in comparison to a lot of the other classes which feel very similar building for the first few levels.
Hmm....Ysoki Mechanic thats very combat focused, with a Combat drone customized into a one man personal armored assault vehicle. I can see someone making Rocket Raccoon with this.
I first wanted a drone but when I read exocortex thoroughly I decide to switch. The exocortex turns you into the perfect attack spy. You can hack computer systems/ use soldier gear/ and basically turn yourself into a cyberpunk badass. You are upgrading the drone which is your body. Ultimate Bounty Hunter.
Just got the Starfinder book and after reading, the Endocortex seems more interesting to me for how I would want to play, encounter and role playing-wise. I can’t wait to have conversations with my AI that no one else can hear, or my AI asking me pointless questions mid combat.
One thing that stood out to me from the book and a point you made is the Exocortex + Wireless Hack. It states you can't use it without the Remote Hack - is this just an issue for if/when you lose your rig? Otherwise I can't see you having one of them without the other unless another class or feature grants you an exocortex outside of combat.
I personally feel like the drone might be too potentially squishy, and that the exocortex, which grants you heavy armor proficiency, and longarm proficiency actually gives the player more direct combat utility rather than utility by proxy. Until I play the class or experience it differently, my mechanic is going to be equipped with the exocortex, personally.
The early game advantage of an extra attack, carry stuff out, program a routine that allows him to stabilize you in case of falling on the battlefield, and mid game utility of having a drone to scout out an area, and defend himself basicly undetected and spending nothing, or turn into a backpack providing u flight and other stuff is just amazing.... the drone begins to scale poorly at high lvls when you get acess to control net that allows you to split your lvl's on both AI's ... the drone just get's the best scenic and utility benefits if u play it right, and u will never beat a Soldier or a Operative with exocortex in combat x.x
Mechanic is by far the class I'm most excited to play. It's my favorite sci-fi archetype, and Starfinder's looks like it's finally brought it to the table just the way I imagined. I'm still torn between drone and exocortex, which I count as a good thing because it means there's even more reasons to play the class multiple times. I wouldn't mind playing it all the way to 20, but immediately I thought of multiclassing with Operative and Technomancer. As for race I'm torn between Android and Lashunta. Android Exocortex seems like it makes for a ton of fun rp options for both the player and for the DM to play with. Lashunta Drone/Technomancer seems like an insane amount of fun from a dice rolling nitty gritty perspective.
I am actually playing a Human Mechanic Bounty Hunter who's custom rig is actually implanted in his eye. Along with his exocortex, he can track and do things that some normal human hunters can't. Also might have a small augmentation kick.
Found the idea of having a Ysoki mechanic with the stealth drone, that uses his drone as a mount using the Riding saddle mod. As it seems like found RPing ratman that gets around using his drone to do his job.
I think an operative mechanic multiclass with an Exocortex could be a really cool idea. And in my mind would make far more sense than an operative/mechanic having a drone.
I can see a mini boss fight with a group of three mechanics, one with each of the drone types setting an ambush for the party while the big bad is prepping for the final push of the siege/building a bomb/etc
I like the idea of a class having so many choses to play with. One of my biggest complaint with DnD is a lot of the classes lack options to build. There always that one perk that better. Their always this one set forward if you want to play a good class and not gimp your class. Many times Multiclasses will ruin your class. I could go on and on on why I feel DnD is a linear character design with no real of chose on how to make your characters.
I'm playing a Starfinder game ATM (Dead suns) and my first character is a ysoki Mechanic. Truth be told I probably should have done an easier class to start with, but none the less I love my character, the class is fun and with how many times my drone got killed in some of the funnest ways possible, I can test out the other types and see what they do. (I like stealth the best) But yeah, word of warning, and as stated in the video, this class has ALLOT to keep track of... I'm a lvl 8 and I keep forgetting I have skills that might help me out.
Only youuuuu can choooooose Honestly, just plan it out in a word document or something. I know I'm going to multiclass 3 times with my mechanic and I have him mc-ing at level 1... then 5... then 7.
Currently working on creating an Android Mechanic Bounty Hunter who has watched one too many spaghetti western holovids. Sort of a Fist Full of Dollars meets Yul Brynner Westworld type.
im doing a ysoki Mechanic drone where the drone has tool arm and manipulator arms to help fix the ship, as my group is doing a Firefly based game. so lots of stuff will break lol.
I'm torn between making an Android operative/mechanic multiclasses with exocortex to buff sniping and stealth, boosting damage on my sniper and making hits easier with tracking, or a ysoki mechanic with drone and just buffing my party/hacking everything while my drone does the combat
Gah I’m torn on whether I want exocortex or drone for my android. On the one hand exocortex is probably more useful immediately at low levels, but drones have lot of uses, especially since one can destroy one’s own drone to replace with a different kind if say a stealth drone isn’t what’s needed.
Any chance you could make a detailed video on creating a drone? Just got the book and rolled my first character (Ysoki Mechanic) and I'm a bit stuck on the drone.
I dont know about the class. Its main feature is the drone and One major major issue that the Drone functions like a worse form of the Eidolon from Pathfinder. It has almost nothing by itself, and it has a very limited number upgrades. Many are blown just by being able to hold things and you cant give extra equipment like a Eidolon could wear Barding or a Belt. At the same time its theoretically awesome as you can immediately have 2 characters with LongArms under your control.
I think all of the game mechanics that can only change on a level up is a bit of a hindrance. Imo it would be a bit smoother if it took x hours a day for x amount of days, with a long cooldown between changes. what happens when you are max level and said mechanics aren't going to be useful for the next mission?
Technically you can destroy your own Drone to remake it. Your GM might not like it but nothing stops you from doing it. As for the Exocortex, nothing can really be done about that.
So the drone with an intelligent AI in it won't take it's own actions?.... How is that an AI? Even dumb AI in Halo can at least act on their own to do a task they were built for. Hell, even our military TODAY has the technology for a robot to take their own actions! And it's not even to the level of a dumb AI! Having a drone "pet" would be more like R2D2. That can do it's own thing. And I really like the idea of the drone, but at the same time I love the idea of the Exocortex. Having an AI like Cortana in my head sounds amazing. To me one of the biggest things I'd love about it is the ability to never forget. Like what Elon Musk is trying to do.
Several months late tot he game but.. Isn't it better to put the Custom Rig into your neck slot? It can be combined with data jacks.. and last I knew, the data jack is literally the only thing that goes into the neck. Has that changed? On the hacking bit.. remote hack works, but you can also hack through your robot. So you can, if your robot is stealthy enough, sneak VEERRYY far awayn and hack through it from safety.
