Sadly there is no physical content available for purchase for the remastered version of Babylon 5 (as of writing this message on February 28th, 2020), you have to get an HBO Max subscription to watch it. I also believe it's available on the Apple Store, but I'm unsure if it's the remastered version.

I am glad you were able to locate my channel and enjoyed the review. I agree that I always seem to find on many releases that there are things I wish they had done better from every company. But I have found over time that I was missing out on watching the shows and movies I liked because I was being too hard on some of them, so now I try to look at not only the bad things in each release but also for the positive / good things. I am still surprised we even got this set at the better image quality than the DVDs were, because with MGM not doing well I thought this would never get released at all past DVD. So I am enjoying this set and have not regretted buying it, I try to support what smaller companies like VEI is doing so hopefully they will release more content on Blu ray and get better at their remastering process if a release sells well. So there are very many reasons why I feel we should support this release on top of everything I talked about in the review. Also thanks for the nice comments, I appreciate it when someone enjoys the content I work hard to make, your comments like this and support make it all worth it. Yes, I have there is 1 complete series Blu Ray set that’s coming out most likely this year, they had to push the release back due to the pandemic causing delays so I am waiting to find out what the new release date is. So to answer your question as best as I can, yes I was able to get a decent surround sound experience from my set once I figured out the mislabeled audio like what I talked about in the review. But since ordering my set weeks ago & since making this review it seems from reports I have gotten from other subscribers that VEI is silently making slight changes to the sets as they make new printings of these Stargate Blu Ray Sets. So the issues I reported in my review for my set or what you have read from somewhere else you might not ever notice if you get a newer printing of this set. I know this might seem a little confusing, but I have reached out to VEI over 10 times and can never get a straight response from them on anything. So this has all been gathered from a bunch of SUBSCRIBERS recently buying the Stargate SG-1 Blu Ray Set through the links in the description section below this video they are reporting some different experiences than what my pre order early released set has. I still recommend this set even with all the issues it has had because it’s a far step above the DVD sets were and I am still watching and enjoying month later. @@InSearchofPhysicalMedia -- So, I just received this set. On my set the DD 5.1 tracks are "messed-up" for Season 2 forward. However, the default 2.0 stereo tracks sound good; and when run through my DENON A/V Receiver's Pro-Logic PLII circuit, decode to good split surround sound. So I'm satisfied enough with the set to retire my old DVDs. I'm still mystified as to how the DD 5.1 tracks could be so messed up; but since the 5.1 is not mentioned on the packaging and the DD 2.0 stereo tracks are fine, I suppose there is not all that much to be upset about -- considering the very reasonable price for over 200 episodes and hours of special features. And I'm very happy to recover all the shelf space from the old DVD separate season sets.

I am glad my review helped you make a better decision on this Blu Ray set. It’s seems like a lot of people are wanting me to do the Stargate Universe Blu Ray set review so I am hoping to do that soon as well. I also stopped going on the forums much on Blu Ray anymore because there is so much negative misinformation on those Blu Ray forums. I found myself arguing on those forums way too much with misinformed people who didn’t own the Blu Ray sets they were arguing so hard about and they were having huge opinions on sets that they had never seen in person. So It seems to me like a lot of the folks on there just like to make up drama lol. As far as your questions about your different VEI DVD set, that’s difficult for me to answer because I haven’t seen the VEI DVD set vs the regular DVD set I own. But if your other Vei DVD set is anything like my DVD sets are, then in my opinion this Stargate SG-1 Blu Ray set is worth the upgrade because of all the factors I talked about in the review. Also my understanding is these are as good as the digital copies like prime so you in my opinion would always be better with a Physical Blu Ray Copy. I only support Physical Media so I suggest getting the Blu ray set over Digital every time.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply! I think I’ve come to that same conclusion about the forums especially after watching a few clips posted from the Blu-ray set. It looks really good! While it’s not a complete remaster it’s definitely an upgrade and this is probably the best SG-1 has ever looked! The DVDs that VEI offers are basically the same as MGM’s except with DNR applied which I personally don’t mind and the Blu-ray should give it a lot more room to breathe to deal with any compression artifacts. I am relatively new to growing my physical media collection but it is far better than any streaming service when it comes to true quality. I will definitely be picking this set up now after your review! I’ll probably be getting SGU as well to complete my whole Stargate Blu-ray collection since I do already own the Fox release of Atlantis.

Coming in a little late, and you probably know this already but to other people reading this, as of now, SG-1 got pulled off Amazon Prime and now Netflix/Hulu are streaming them, but only the 4x3 SD versions unfortunately.

You would most likely have to use a forwarding service, there are companies that charge a fee so you can buy it using the shipping address they give you and then once they receive it they ship it to your address. That’s one of the ways I sometimes have to buy things from other countries. Hope this helps you. Yes basically all the original special features plus some that were released in the collectors sets, and yes it has the extended cut or unrated cut how ever you call it cut lol. Here is IMDb's description: In 2009 MGM released a re-edited version of Children of the Gods on DVD. Certain scenes have been trimmed slightly to make the pace of the film flow faster and one new scene has been added. Scenes with violence have been toned down and the infamous full frontal nudity shots of actress Vaitiare Bandera have been removed. Also,the visual effects have been enhanced and composer Joel Goldsmith has re-scored the entire film with new music instead of the re-used David Arnold score from the 1994 feature. The 2009 version runs approx 7 minutes shorter than the original. Does the Blu-ray include just one cut which I'm assuming is the original Showtime cut?

Yes it only includes the same cut that was previously released on the slimline DVD sets, it’s called the unrated extended cut. So this is not the shorter cut you are referring to. Hope this helps you.

I am glad I was able to share something you are excited about, as far as if this show will ever see 4K I think that will be based on how well this set sells. Because this is released by a small studio they would need it to sell extremely well over the next several years for them to ever justify upgrading it to 4K. But based on my knowledge of this small studio that released this it’s very unlikely that we will see anything better than this good SG-1 Blu Ray Set, especially because of the troubles that MGM is going through. I am still very surprised we even got this SG-1 Blu Ray Set, so if you hope to see more sets released on Blu Ray then we have to support releases like this for them to justify looking at releasing other great shows on Blu Ray. The missing footage was not available on 35mm film stock . Bab 5 has easily been restored from film masters where available as these were created decades ago when the series was shot

I am very excited for the Babylon 5 Blu Ray Set that’s supposed to be coming out, so I am hoping it will look better than the streaming services do, especially if they do it right they should end up looking much better on Blu Ray. The best thing to do is contact MGM and ask them to sell the international dvd release licensing rights to bring the show on blu-ray to UK and Europe.

The rights have been purchased by VEI and they have no plans of releasing a UK Blu Ray set, so as I explained in this video you would have to Import it from the Amazon links I have in the description section of this video and use a forwarding service to have it sent to your country. So to try and explain this as simply as possible here goes: After doing a lot of TESTING & research I have found that there have been multiple printings of the discs for this Stargate SG-1 Blu Ray set by VEI. So my set I did this review on and some of the glitches/issues I had on my pre ordered original discs are not going to most likely be the same discs you will be getting when you order your set. It seems to be that VEI has been silently on the backend doing quite small fixes on each new printing of the discs they are doing and they are not telling everyone that they are fixing some things as they sell out of each printing with these sets. So I know this might seem like a little confusing but it’s the best answer I can give you at the moment VEI is not very forthcoming with updates or information about this or anything to be honest, so this information was gathered by me and 3 other RU-vid channels by testing the same issues on each disc & sets that were bought almost 2 months apart and each set had some very different issues per Blu Ray set & they each didn’t have the exact same issues. So there has been a lot of misinformation about this set going around due to people on different website forums not understanding what VEI has been doing. The sounds quality is most likely depending on the printing you get that is why there are different reports that people aren’t understanding because there are slightly different discs. So I hope this helps to answer your question as best as is possible. So the sets you are asking about are all the same content, they are just bundled together all the shows. So they all have the same content as the individual releases. None of these sets include the SG-1 movies that were released separately by different studios after the show ended, I have included links to each SG-1 Movie on Blu Ray in the description section under this video so it makes it easy for you to order those if you decide you want to get them also.

I am glad to have helped you see a better side to this Stargate SG-1 Remastered Blu Ray Set. I have found after many years of watching other channels’ reviews of different releases that far to often the reviewers would focus only on the negative stuff and they did not see the value of the work some of these smaller studios are doing to release upgraded Blu Ray content over the old DVDs, so I take each set I review and try to look at it for the purpose it was made and compare the upgrade and it’s worth based on its perceived percentage of visual upgrade over previous releases, content & cost. That’s why I came up with ( years ago when I first started my channel ) a review score for each release I review so I have a numbering system to calculate the total worth I see/feel of each release I review with all the different factors combined. I also was very glad for the added space on my shelves due to this set being more compact than the DVD sets. Also it seems you have the older DVD boxed sets so you will see an even bigger advantage than even I saw because your sets were much bigger than the slim dvd cases. I am just thankful this was even released because I like the show a lot and having an upgraded Blu ray set over the DVDs is much appreciated. I have also noticed that the small company who released this ( VEI ) is starting to do a much better job remastering their Blu Ray content than in previous years so I have very high hopes that we will see each release they do only getting better. I am also curious ( as I talked about at the end of this video review ) if you were interested in me doing a future review on another set that just came out the Stargate Universe Complete Blu Ray Set?

@@InSearchofPhysicalMedia Thanks for the awesome reply. As far as Stargate Universe is concerned I have to admit I did not enjoy it as much as Sg1 or Stargate Atlantis which I also love. Universe was a little too dark for me. I watched it on tv but I did not have the desire to own it. I do have a question concerning Stargate Atlantis. I bought the individual dvd seasons upon their release and when the complete Blu Ray set came out a few years later I purchased that as well. My question is there any difference between that MGM Blu Ray set and the new Blu Ray set just released by VEI. As a side note have you ever reviewed the Blu Ray set of Seaquest DSV. I have the first two seasons on dvd from many years ago but they never released the third season. Then back in 2019 Viavision released the third season on dvd and followed it up with all three seasons on Blu Ray. Viavision is an Australian company from what I know and the Seaquest release is region free.

The amount of content you put into this video is AMAZING! It covered all the bases for me: packaging, yes it has subtitles (one review on amzn said it didn't), how good or bad the DNR is, screenshots and comparisons with the dvds (clips might have helped a bit more), and Region Free! I'm not sure if I'm correct or not, but maybe a reason the BluRay screenshots look more saturated compared to the DVDs is that DVDs usually use BT470BG or SMPTE170M (Rec.601) colorspaces vs a BluRay's Rec.709 colorspace. *shruggy emoji*

I have been trying to do something different & special on my RU-vid channel since I launched it by providing reviews of products not widely known about from sometimes smaller studios that are releasing content for collectors of physical media worldwide. I always make sure to cover as much about each release as possible instead of making short little videos like other RU-vidrs do on reviews. I make sure to go very in depth to try and cover every possible question that someone watching might have about each special release I review. As far as adding video clips of each Movie or TV show I review, that is simply not possible first because the smaller studios that are releasing most of these titles I review simply will not allow anyone due to their own copyright laws to show video clips otherwise the video reviews would eventually be taken down, and I put almost over 3 weeks of hard work into making each of these videos so I won’t ever risk it or mess with their rules. Also regardless of just that fact but to accurately show differences between DVD to Blu Ray comparisons still images / screenshots are the best & only accurate way for the human eye to easily see the differences side by side on a RU-vid Video due to all the compression algorithms RU-vid uses. Lol!!! We are lucky to have gotten this in 1080p HD Blu Ray, I don’t think 4K it is even on the table for the near future like Daisy said 30 years lol!!!! Just having some fun but it’s not likely especially from VEI who bought the rights. VEI has bought the rights to this show for the next 5 years so if you want to wait that long to own this great show that’s up to you. But VEI did not work with a 4K master and 1080p is the highest version available to them for this show so that’s all they are going to release on Blu Ray. @@dealerovski82 I don't think MGM will do the hard and very expensive work to 4K scan 16mm & 32mm film reels frame by frame of seasons 1-7 and then try to 4K remaster it exact 1:1. I think this is huge amount of work n costs... And after 20-30 years the film reels maybe have some damage... in case it's not keep in expensive professional dry n dark archive space. So you need to photoshop/correct many frames... I don't think this will happen... Maybe if they start a new series and this becomes extremely famous and stargate fan community grows a lot, I see a possible 4K remaster...

I talked about the cover having been poorly made in the video but I didn’t want to talk too long for length of the video on just the cover art. If you watched the part of my review that covers the comparison screen shots between the dvd and Blu ray set you will see the Blu Ray with the work they did on them & upscaled the first couple seasons look drastically better than the old DVDs and does come across very nicely as an 1080p HD picture, the later seasons look amazing because they didn’t have to do very much because those were already available at full HD scans. So the original DVDs don’t hold up very well when seen in person side by side this Blu ray set blows those away. So this set is a very good/decent set especially for the content and the price point to own it all. Hope this helps you out. But in the video I clearly explained that all screenshots ( The Whole RU-vid video including the DVD & the Blu Rays images ) can be changed by each device that YOU are watching or viewing this video on when watching a RU-vid video. Also this is the same effect that TVs you play a physical Blu ray or DVD on at home each have many different color levels & saturation settings that change how much color levels/saturation can appear in a video image or screenshot also, just like the device you currently use to watch my videos can change how it appears. All images in this video are added the same way so the color level differences between DVD to Blu Ray will be slightly different even in person because the Blu Rays do have brighter & more vibrant color than the DVDs did. So the whole reason I spent my time explaining why colors can look different on RU-vid videos versus when you own a disc in person is so that you wouldn’t have to ask the same question I answered in this video. I explained that if a device, software or program changes the color levels for a picture or video in a RU-vid Video it does it for not just the DVD images, it does it for both & that is just like it will change the way everything else looks in the entire video color wise as well. So that’s why I gave a clear disclaimer in the video that colors can appear differently when watching a RU-vid video then when you own any of the discs in person because there are very many programs, devices & other factors that can change the way you see the colors of this RU-vid video. @@InSearchofPhysicalMedia I commented this after your disclaimer and did understand, and I don't want to come across the wrong way either. While, yes, I understand that the image I see will be dependent on the device I'm watching it on, my argument is that the difference between the images shown is going to be mostly absolute, as, I am viewing both of those images on the same device, at the same time, and it can be assumed that they have both gone through the same number of levels of compression. So, I was wondering if maybe the source Blu-ray itself is being processed in a way which is meant to emulate an HDR effect, by your Blu-ray player or whatever you are using to record the source material. I've seen this on many players. I apologize for you having to explain yourself again, and I should have explained myself more clearly. Love the channel! Based on your comments it seems that you didn’t quite understand what I was explaining about the programs & processing that goes into each review I create. To put it very simply what I explained in the video every single device processes images & colors differently so what you see when watching a RU-vid video is never going to be as good looking as what you will see in person for yourself if you were watching the Blu Ray set at home on your own TV. To explain as far as color saturation goes on a Blu Ray 1080p image versus DVD 480p image, there is always more colors in a 1080p image over a DVD 480p even simply just 1 of the factors because you are talking about over double the pixel count in the image provides more colors on a screen, hence color saturation that’s perceived by the human eye. That’s just a very simple and rudimentary explanation of 1 small brief portion of how colors can appear more vibrant and clearer between the 2 images. I agree, this is the perfect time because of the major Sci-Fi revolution going on with Sci-Fi tv shows now to bring in a new Stargate TV series. I will also be doing the new Stargate Universe Complete series Blu Ray set review in the near future once my set arrives. I have had a ton of messages asking me to do that new set so I am excited to see how that looks as well. I did also mention at the end of this video that Babylon 5 is supposedly getting a small remaster project on Blu ray, this is possibly similar to what this has had done to it & it’s supposedly coming out this year & I am very excited for this set too.

There are other ways to buy the set from Amazon USA, I have heard you can pay certain shippers / services to give you a forwarding address in the USA so you can buy things from Amazon USA and have them shipped to your address in another country. Actually seasons 1-7 are just upscaled 1080p from a uncompressed 480p Master. But ok as far I saw in another video even for the upscaled part picture quality is much better than on DVD.

That’s why I didn’t explain the specs on the back of the box in the video, it’s because they didn’t put the right info down, they also misspelled several things on the box lol, The person they hired to do the cover art should not have his or her job because they didn’t know what they were doing lol! Thankfully those are just small cosmetic things on the cover art that only us true fans of Stargate SG-1 notice lol.

I don’t support streaming services of any kind for several big reasons, firstly the Amazon Streaming version is being taken down they announced last week that Stargate SG-1 will no longer be on streaming platforms soon. Also Streaming services are the whole reason we are losing episodes & tv shows they are censoring and deleting episodes altogether on streaming services. So the only true way to own a series in it’s entirety is if you own the show on Physical Media yourself like this Blu Ray Set. So since the Amazon streaming won’t even be available soon that proves my point of how they take away shows that are on streaming services constantly and you never truly own anything if you use streaming services. I 200% agree with you that streaming can't beat physical media because 1. you own it and 2. you can watch it in an unaltered state. Aside from pulling down shows and movies, streaming also often censors. Disney+ censored Family Guy or puts 'sensitivity warnings', they want to cut out scenes from an actress they fired, Netflix removes scenes they don't like from movies and the list goes on. So I'm with you there: I buy everything physical! They only changes I accept are faithful restorations where they go back to the original film stock and clean up the image, colour correct and so on. The only reason I askes is because I was able to watch a few episodes of SG-1 season 10 on Amazon Prime thanks to the account of a friend and I wanted to use that as a reference point to have an idea of how good this set is. But since this is probably the best set we'll get anyway, I'll go ahead and get it. I already own SG-U and SG Atlantis on BD from earlier releases, so I'll have a look at your review of those. I am glad you see the same thing with streaming services that I do. I think you will notice once you get the SG-1 Blu Ray set that it looks pretty good & you will be very happy you own it. Also if the Stargate Universe Complete Series Blu Ray Set the 2nd season of that show has never been released before in 1080p HD Blu Ray, so that’s why the complete series set that just came out is so unique because season 2 in HD Blu Ray has never been available before. So that’s why I picked that up to complete my Stargate Collection because I never owned season 2 on Blu Ray. Once you watch that review you will see that if you own the season 1 Stargate universe Blu ray set you are going to want to have both. Hope this helps you, thanks for your support, I appreciate it.

Sorry you feel that way, I am very glad it was at least released even in this form and quality. It seems like some people don’t understand that with all the financial troubles MGM is under that it’s amazing they licensed this out to VEI and that we even got this Blu Ray release at all. The quality is way better than DVDs were so it’s a very worthwhile upgrade and probably the best the series will look on Blu Ray for many many years to come. So if people want to see more TV content being remastered and put out on Blu Ray we need to buy & support releases like this from smaller studios so they see the demand for more content otherwise smaller studios won’t take this risk like with this release to put the time and money out to make a Blu Ray set. I have seen an enormous amount of interest and support for this release so far and that’s very exciting and hopeful that VEI will get even better on their next remastering of a TV series on Blu Ray.
