@IJN Yamato yes that's true. I just think that, considering how badly aimed Goa'uld staff weapon shots are in SG1, it's rather funny. Of course that's the practical purpose but to me the Goa'uld warriors are like stormtroopers haha

The stargates are made of Naquada, the ships are made of naquada. The Stargate is a giant capacitor because of it's building materials able to absorb huge amounts of energy, so it goes without saying that the energy unleashed from the Staff weapons would get absorbed quite easily by the walls of their ships too.
@belisarian6429
@belisarian6429 3 года назад
@@Rikard_Nilsson If I remember correctly naquadah was used as power source/fuel for engines, weapons..... + it is extremely heavy/dense so I think hulls of their ships are from something else, that being said any conductive metal of decent thickness will be probably good enough to dissipate energy from hand held energy weapons.

Stargate was such a brilliant sci-fi universe. The stargates themselves gave the option of having so many stories. The Goa'uld, early Replicators and the Wraiths were super powerful but with sensible weaknesses. The Goa'uld had both really interesting and deep villains and huge armies of Jaffa at the same time. All the in-fighting made it believable that they'd ignore us unless we looked like a serious threat, then they'd work on a huge invasion or an explosive asteroid. I still think that a Stargate game similar to X-Com would be one of the greatest games ever, but we'll probably never know because MGM apparently don't play well with others.

I love the Stargate universe, and Star Wars of course. Think you could do Galactic Empire vs. Gou'ald Empire? Their weapons, tactics, and fleets have generally the same objectives and weaknesses. They are meant to inspire fear, crush unrest, and disperse small scale rebellion. However, they both have trouble against large scale insurgencies, and even other large space faring factions. I dont know about you guys, but it would be fascinating to see these two factions in a straight up galactic domination fight against each other.
@edwardaugustus9680
@edwardaugustus9680 5 лет назад
I agree that both empires followed similar ship building designs and combat doctrines making them fairly comparable unlike most inter settling match ups with both sides ships being similar in power (The Ha'Tak was upgraded massively over the series so at least one version would have been of equal power). The main weakness of the Gou'ald in such a conflict would be that they lacked a large industrial base due to keeping pretty much all their worlds at pre feudal tech levels. But even with this they had the tech needed to still producer at least several thousand Ha'Tak class ships which based off what we are shown in some episodes could be built in a couple of months with little more than several thousand slaves and a sort of semi-organic growth (see the episode Thor's Chariot to see what i mean though in said episode they may not have been Ha'Tak class but another Cruiser style warship, they sort of grew or phased into existance).

In some respects they remind me of the Rakatan Empire as there are several conceptual parallels...except that the Goa’uld relies entirely on technology to rule (which seemed like magic to the sentient aboriginals they enslaved), whereas the Rakatans used tech utilized and managed by the Dark Side of the Force...which for all intents and purposes is magic to a civilization ignorant of the Force, not only in what is apprehendable on an intellectual level by non-Force sentients but that the Force exists in the first place... for those who lived a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

Actually, Atlantis was cancelled due to Stargates success in the movie industry, there was a movie planned, as sg'1 movies had made tones of money, but MGM had licensing issues and was going broke, again, the show had good views and ratings and you can actually find the movies plot on gate world, sg1 had 10 seasons! sure it could have continued to go, but without jack sg1 lost something that made it special.

Wasn't there 2 version of the Ha'tak? I remember the design changing in the show for a sleeker, darker and larger variant.

I'm still upset the Anubis flagship didn't make the cut for top 5 dreadnoughts but 2 kinds of Super Star Destroyers did.

one thing i've noticed is that anytime the 2000 jaffa troop capacity is mentioned in the show in regards to earth everyone gets all worried. and i'm like. "there were 6 *billion* people on earth when this episode was made. something like 30 million of them are uniformed military troops." the characters talk about the danger to earth of a Goa'uld fleet "a few hundred ships combined" in regards to troops, but the only real danger is the orbital bombardment. as far as ground troops the Goauld would get some footholds early on but once the shock value wore off, they'd probably get slaughtered through attrition.

You don't think more than a few Earth nations wouldn't ally with the Goa'uld out of foolish short sighted self interest?

Earth would stand no chance, ground troops and all. It was shown that in multiple universes and on a few occasions that the goauld stomped humanity, the Jaffa decimating ground troops. Their plasma weapons would simply burn through any armour, easily.

Good one, wow, the wraith make look the empire like the saviors, not only good guys, but Heroes. Even the bugs from Starship Troopers(the novel, not those terrible movies) are better.

Great overview of the ships, thanks. Maybe I'm a tad late with this question but, are the ships, transport rings, staff weapons designed by the Ancients, by the Goa'uld, or are they some kind of synthesis?

Ha'taks fit excellently in the hexagon of a city ship, the ancients are travelers and their ships look like ship docks

If there's one thing that sci-fi writers/creators have proven, it's that if you combine a real-world mythology/ancient culture with science fiction and awesome spaceships you are sure to make an awesome show/game.
