To stiffen up the infinity terrain all you have to do is put one of the army boxes from an infinity starter box inside the terrain. After you do that the terrain piece is strong enough to hold one of the heavier metal infinity models.

Thanks for the thoughts/overview. Glad to hear it's as shooty as I had hoped. While I love Frostgrave, Necromunda was my first love and I've been waiting for a long time for a ranged-combat centric sci-fi version.

As said by others, Infinity has the thick printed card terrain made for it by Corvus Belli or there's many MDF makers that have terrain for it. Warsenal comes to mind first. The last two force vs. force sets by CB for Infinity has figures that could be used for two crew and terrain as well. Kaldstrom and Wildfire. They have a new one coming out this summer. CC is almost the same as SG with Infinity. It's a shooting game. CC can be fun but much of the time you shoot them before they get to you. Also as far as terrain, again it's like Infinity. It really got me into loving terrain as much as the figures. I save so much in the army due to lower model counts, I can spend it on a cool table. It's also just fun to make it.

I wouldn't worry too much about sci-fi terrain. If you have only historical or fantasy terrain then think Star Trek original series. So many different planets from almost fantasy to high tech. Stargrave allows you to put any terrain on the table if you use your imagination a little bit.

Star Trek (the Original Series) is also a great example of using the same terrain over and over again.

For inexpensive, good-looking SF terrain, I can't recommend the Babylon sets from Dave Graffam Models at DriveThruRPG highly enough. These are cardstock models you can print and assemble using your home inkjet printer and 110 lb. cardstock. Each kit is a large collection of modular building units, which can be stacked and arranged to form towers, walkways, hidey holes, and all sorts of 3D cover. There are four kits, each in a different color scheme, that usually cost just $5 per set for as much industrial SF terrain as you care to print out and assemble. I haven't played Stargrave on it, but I've used it for many games of Kill Team. Properly assembled, it looks better and is stronger and more stable than the Corvus Belli and Core Space terrain, and it's much less expensive. Dave Graffam offers several other, smaller kits, including large cargo containers, crates, off-world habitats, bunkers, etc., for $1 to $3. There are even a couple of free sample sets, including Spaceport Containers, so you can give them a try.

I just wish the company would offer prepainted minis in a bundle. (or small bundles) here's 30 minis for crew, 30 minis for mercenaries etc....or Boom! here's all the minis you'll ever need for a two player game from the core book. I'd pay extra for this. I have trouble building and painting the smaller minis because of my eyesight and I dread the thought of trying to get minis from other games as proxies. (tokens and paper minis is a no go for me as I do full 3D terrain). With Frostgrave I have all my D&D and Pathfinder minis to pull from.

Thanks for this video , haven't played this yet , we play DnD and lately my son has been getting into Star wars legion. My daughter bought a huge ,300 piece hero click lot on eBay ,. Not much for DnD ,( poor kid) , but the Marvel, DC and Star Trek minis Will be great. Looks great , we may try it during the summer. Looking forward to your future sci Fi builds Have pretty much made all of your Previous posts.

In fairness you pretty much want an entire frostgrave group as archers anyways. They are cheap and almost as good as half the hand to hand guys in close combat and kill everybody at a distance. All of my frostgrave games were 80% ranged and 20% close combat no matter how much 'line blocking' terrain we added'
@inhumanbookworm

Try to add more terrain so shooting is not so easy. Unless you set up the table in a way that allows you to benefit from ranged attacks.

True, but 2nd edition only allows up to four specialists, of which archers and crossbowman are labeled. In Stargrave, even the non-specialists called Runners and Recruits have pistols, so long range attacks are still possible.

I really like your channel. What minis did you use? I have a dilemma. My sci fi collection is limited but I have a budget to expand. Should I go for: 1) infinity models 2) zcide invader 3) imperial assault 4) core space 5) starcadia quest 6) blackstone fortress/w40k
@1crlski
@1crlski 3 года назад
You can go anyway you choose, I would suggest make up your crew rooster then find mini's that you feel represent them. For the unwanted attention encounters you can proxy the models until you decide if you want to invest in any of the different types of opponents. For me I use minis from a whole gambit of manufacturers from GW, raging heroes, Victoria miniatures, reaper and Artel W

For solo play, have you looked at 5 parsecs from home? It's designed specifically for solo play and like stargrave you build your crew and and gain experience as you go about you business, it is much more in depth then SG as far a character/world building and a lot more options for weapons, ect

I do like the loot tokens needing to be "unlocked" as an action meaning that your soldier will be at a standstill for a turn at least and gives a reason for the XP to be separated from the loot retrieval. Combined with the higher amount of shooting it now feels like much more of a risk going into an open space especially if its Data Loot as it will take another action to pick it up (physical loot you get to pick up for free if you unlock it but data loot has to be "downloaded" once its unlocked. not too keen on this may house rule it to a free pickup too). As the loot you will most likely get to first are the two that your opponent has to place in your half of the board I would expect it to be placed in dangerous locations. it could be a strategy to push further forward securing more of the area to reduce the number of incoming shots before moving a soldier in to try and collect it. With the ranged weapons limits of 10" for pistols, 12" for shotguns, being aggressive and playing on your opponent wanting to avoid melee combat they may reposition moving themselves to a position they cannot shoot at a soldier unlocking loot.
@jktechwriter
@jktechwriter 3 года назад
YEP! I actually prefer this mechanic over the pick up and run Frostgrave rule. It's going to shake some games up for sure.
@richmcgee434
@richmcgee434 3 года назад
There are powers to unlock either type of loot from a safe-ish distance, but of course if you don't already have crew in place to claim the counter you might wind up helping the enemy crew more than yourself.

Regarding misnaming the phases; it always tickles me when 40k players talk about "casting spells". The newer Infinity Card Terrain is really tough (like 5mm thick card); also there are companies producing pre-printed colour MDF terrain (though this can get pretty darn expensive).
@colerape
@colerape 3 года назад
You want to get in close or avoid becoming a sniper's target? Use smoke grenades or use the Camouflage power. Loot tokens placed against terrain means that your mini can also be against the terrain. Also, nothing says your loot tokens can't be terrain pieces like crates etc. Read the text box on page 56 about your crew being hardened veterans and using cover to their best benefit. Reading the rules for cover on that page one thing jumps out +2 cover for hiding behind another mini. I have watched all the let's plays on youtube so far and I have noticed that no one is using that rule. Maybe have a grenadier tank (Armored Trooper) that blocks LOS with smoke and provides light cover by just standing there. I think as more people play you are going to see a lot of different ways to solve problems tactically just like Frostgrave.
@jktechwriter
@jktechwriter 3 года назад
All good advice, but do keep in mind that Camo is 2 strain and can ONLY be used by the Captain or First Mate... doesn't leave much for the other warband members. I do like Camo and I took it and used it (great for avoiding ranged attacks > 12") but it's not a solution for Codebreaker. Cover is something I'm always aware of (and I suspect most Frostgrave vets are, too), but every game is different and varied with terrain layout.
@richmcgee434
@richmcgee434 3 года назад
Don't overlook Holographic Wall and Wall of Force either. They won't help much against grenades or extremely elevated positions but they're still extremely useful. Much like the earlier XGrave rule sets being able to put terrain on the table is one of the most impactful things you can do.
@6inTruder
@6inTruder 3 года назад
Related to one of the other comments, was the heavier Infinity terrain (like the sniper tower) glued together? I feel like those sets benefit from some basic gluing.
@jktechwriter
@jktechwriter 3 года назад
I don't think so, but after examining it, I don't think glue is going to strengthen it. As one commenter put, you'd probably want to insert a box or add heavier cardboard to reinforce.

1. Do they have a cheat sheet like they did for Frostgrave? I.E. a rulesheet that has the phases and rules on 1 sheet? 2. Caveat...may I suggest...Space wizard phase? 3.for the infinity terrain, there's tutorials for stiffening it up.
