I was fortunate to see the original London production in the mid 80's as well as a couple of the American touring companies. Really miss the energy and talent. Thank you for sharing.
I love how the cast wave at and high 5 as many kids on the way out as they can! Those kids will never forget it. That's the future of UK musical theatre right there! Well done everyone! - Gary
I will go and see it if it stays open for long enough, I will give it benefit of the doubt, but as someone who saw the origional at the Apollo a few times I fear a few tears of disappointment may be shed. if you are going to do something do it it properly and I don't think the Lord has done his masterpiece justice. looking at ticket prices I may be better off skating off to Germany to see a more spectacular authentic production.
@@danielbushen4661 That doesn't answer the question. Is it worth the astronomical pice for a ticket? The Apollo version was very affordable and ever dollar was seen before your eyes. This looks like a Box Trolls musical
Der Chorgesang klingt sehr gut, die Solostimmen schreien ganz furchtbar und das eigentliche Highlight, die Rollschuh-Choreografie wirkt hier peinlich bemüht. Kein Vergleich zur Produktion in Bochum.
Loving all the (ignorant) comments by people who haven’t seen it 🙄. I’ve actually seen this new production twice (at the time of writing it’s still in previews) and I LOVED it. And strange as it might seem to the naysayers I also enjoyed the original which I first saw in 1986, and several times afterwards until the last night in 2002! Guess what, if you saw the original you are not really the target audience for this show. Take the kids, or suspend disbelief for a couple of hours.
The biggest problem is the small stage and set - which is giving cruise ship vibes. The show needs spectacle. The most impressive thing I can see is a few skaters skating backwards down the back ramp.
As one who worked on the production at the Apollo, I find this rather disappointing, not as much as the Vegas production, but nevertheless. I don't think the track is as dynamic and I'm guessing the bridge isn't used for Electra's entrance, that was always a bit of a thrill. Worst of all, Greaseball's a girl!!! Reading the comments that Only You and Starlight Express have been cut that is a great pity.
Amazing! I saw it at the Apollo in the 90s. It’s still my favourite musical ever. I agree, this is disappointing. Where is the diversity in the voices? With that gone, it’s just like another high school musical to me. Next time you fall in love was also taken out . Maybe someone couldn’t do it justice 😢 I preferred the elvis version of greaseball too. Smaller stage, so I get why less cast. But why do we see the controller? The adults really look like toy trains next to him on stage don’t they! Seeing it in Jan now so maybe it will be better live than this clip gives it credit for. 🤞🏻 Bet you’re really proud of what you guys made back then - and rightly so. It was incredible. 👏🏻👏🏻
It’s the discarded ideas the designer had for Six (she designed the Starlight costumes too). She’s never seen Starlight (it says so in the programme) and she couldn’t even be bothered to attempt to make the costumes look like trains. It’s just lazy 😖
