Starliner has a helium leak! Will it still launch? And is the crew in danger?
This lesson on the CST-100 Starliner will answer these questions and more. It will also provide a full breakdown of existing Starliner ships and compare them to the Dragon 2 Crew and Cargo capsules.

SpaceX starship tank on the bottom should have some bag or panel to stop the fuel sloshing around in the tank. A circle which open up and close d so you can stop the fuel sloshing.

After more than 60 years of space flight there shouldn't be "challenges" with something as simple as a valve. It sound like NASA intends to fly with the leaking valve, and it doesn't sound like there is any intention of fixing it, so the spacecraft will always be defective. I'm disappointed in both Boeing and NASA.

The track record of the Starliner has proven that old technology is no longer financially viable. Just the cost of manufacturing through Boeing, who have inflated the budgets and over extended schedules in gross fashion, is costing tax payers a fortune! And every time there`s a non start, which happens often, also costs a lot! This madness should stop!

@@terranspaceacademy Yes, and the explanation I always see is that the importation of McDonnel-Douglas management has killed the innovative, risk-taking mentality that made Boeing great. The 727, 737, 747, .... were big risks, taken by visionary people. Now it's all about "return on shareholder equity", thus we have the 737 still "flying", somtimes at least, and we have a "Triple 7" with a partly aluminum fuselage, only because retention of the design and mfg tooling gives a better "return on sharholder equity" over a more innovative design.

Another excellent episode! Thank you! Do you think Boeing having so many sub-contractors plays into the issue? Seems they - and often NASA - create projects that are widely dispersed to every Congressional district gets some more. That way cancelling it would cause political pain. Even in Software development, you do tons of alpha and beta tests to see how things work. Seems that is what the newer companies are doing. Interesting idea on re-entry burn. Will be interesting to see how SpaceX test goes...and how that change things....which they always do.
