Great video 🔥 Am building a decentralized finance peer-to-peer platform to finance starlink devices with down payment of $100. Would be keen to chat with you. Are you on WhatsApp?
@@bah-traoremohamansani6371 Hi Traore, since Starlink is available in your country all you have to do is visit the starlink.com website and make payment using the available payment methods in your country.
@@bah-traoremohamansani6371 I assumed they were, in that case you’d just have to wait till the service is available in your country, and then follow the steps previously mentioned 😅
Loved the camera angles! The editing was well done. Nice video all together. 🙌🏻 I agree with your suggestion about star link making it more affordable so that the people who actually need it can get it.
Thanks so much Omon! What angles did you like the most? I’ll try to keep some. 😃 Absolutely, the impact could be enormous once the tech is more attainable
@@DamiShinkaiye self doubt. Comparing myself to others and entitled tbh. You think cus your video is done well you should get more views and subscribers. Doesn't work that way.
My husband insisted I get the Mobile StarLink for my Campervan Travels so this was helpful. It appears super easy to use. I agree it's expensive but I expect the price will go down as people buy it which is part of the reason I agreed to get it (the other is help on the road!!). It's always like that with new Technology.
Straight to the point review, good audio/video quality in general. My little advice would be, to always cite the owner of any song you use in your videos, especially here in RU-vid.
This is an excellent video. I love that the content is snackable yet informative. Well done Dami. As for Elon, I will wait till he reduces the price 🤣.
Great review! Price is definitely not for everyone 😮💨. I’ll actually consider it after watching this. Would be great to do a further review in different weather conditions, I’ll like to see how it holds up when it rains.
In the remote rural area they are facing financial challenges to buy personal Starlink service. But also they are not heavy bandwidth consumers. Therefore a community shared Starlink Antenna can still be affordable or rural Internet Cafe affordable
Hmm, thing is though the router for Starlink isn’t really able to stretch across even 3 houses so practicing this will be difficult. But yeah you’re right, an Internet cafe is an immediate short term solution 👌🏾
2:47 Not sure the remote community first need is to watch RU-vid in 8k. So the connection can be shared will the neighbours, just by sharing the wifi. With just 10 families sharing the service, it would costs 60 USD for the hardware and 4,3 USD per month for the connectivity. Not to mention the connection can be used by computers and phones so potentially some saving on phone subscriptions. And honestly, if it is just for browsing the internet and emails (no streaming) the bandship is enough for a small village. So I would say that Starlink does give access to everybody everywhere, but it may imply some local goodwill.
Yes Didier, their priority won’t be watching 8k video. And a level of community pooling will definitely make this more feasible. I think a government could probably execute this better on behalf of the citizens. Ultimately, it will be simple but not easy. Thanks for stopping by 😁
Great review, Dami. Maybe neighbors go go together? How about libraries, churches, fire stations, and so on, setting so people can connect their phones and tablets. I know Nigerians have a reputation for creativity!
Thanks John! All your points about shared spaces are valid, however it’s worth it to think of just how far one Starlink modem’s reach is. The main point I was trying to drive across was that someone living in a rural area isn’t likely making a lot of money, and if this technology is to truly scale it will need to be more affordable. Not just for individuals themselves to be able to purchase it, but in the event that governments or corporations were to invest in CSR initiatives, this could be an effective solution. For context the MTN 5G modem costs 50,000 naira ($70) and still offers very good speeds. For a lot of people it’ll be difficult to make sense of an almost 9x difference at whatever speeds. I’ve got a couple more videos coming! Thanks for your question John, I hope I see another in a future video. 😅
Hi, Dami People aren’t stuck with the Starlink router. They can use another if they like. One with a stronger wifi and then there’s ethernet connections available on most routers, so one Starlink dish can be rigged to provide multiple networks serving multiple families or clients in a public or private operation. Good luck to all of you!
From Montana to Nigeria. Pretty cool that you and I can both use the same internet service. Hopefully the Dishy hardware will get more affordable as time rolls on. (ツ) ☕☕(ツ)
about pricing in some countries i agree. but keep in mind you could share the internet easy with others and share the bill. like 5 ppl together and still get double the speed if all uses it at the same time. only thing i seen was ping, 100ms is a big one. in my country i got a 25-35ms ping with starlink and download of 350mbits which is fantastic
You’re right, splitting costs definitely helps. 350 is also an amazing speed, but not necessary for most tasks. Starlink’s messaging implies that it provides internet to remote and rural locations across the globe, but it’s pricing may be too high for the lower income residents that actually live in these places. It may be more affordable for urban areas, but these areas have a lot more ISP options. Ultimately, using Starlink depends on the importance of fast internet and one’s budget. So for the people the company’s messaging is about, it will need to be more affordable for true adoption 😅
@@DamiShinkaiye well to be fair it provide fast internet anywhere. Price is the thing but as said, can be split. Anyway i think prices will be adjusted at some point where rich countries pay the difference to other countries to make up for the cost. The benefit is no landline has to be build and all a community need is solar and starlink and has internet access 💪🏻 Just amazing tec
@@Apemania69 Yeah you’re right. My issue was with the marketing. On Starlink’s website it says “broadband internet in rural and remote locations across the globe” for people located in those places even in the US, $600 can be steep especially when you can have for example, AT&T for $55/month. The “rich subsidizing other customers” model seems to have worked in Tesla. I hope it works here too. Thank you for watching the video till the end, and commenting so far, you’ve been very engaging! 🔥
Great video, first time am watching your video... From what i have read on starlink website and other places online, in U.S you can't use your starlinks outside 15km radius of your residential address but your video just proved otherwise... Question: does this mean I can use my starlink anywhere besides my registered address?
Really good question! So it’s a Yes and No tbh. You can use your Starlink anywhere you’d just have to change the registered address or pay for a portability feature if you don’t wanna have to constantly change that
@@DamiShinkaiye oh nice that means each time I want to use the device in different location I will just change address right ? Are there fees, is there any restrictions like you can only change address once a month?
Excellent presentation of Starlink. I'm very impressed with this technology, although it's still expensive for some Africans. So how much will it cost me to deliver to Cameroon?
Thank you very much! 🙏🏾. Best thing will be to figure out when it’s available (I don’t think it currently is in Cameroon) when that happens all fees are calculated when you input your address on the Starlink website. I hope this answered your question 😁
Hi Jackie! Starlink is not available in Ethiopia just yet. It'll likely be announced in local news when it's available. From that point you can set up and use easily the way I have in the video. Thanks for stopping by 🙏🏾
Hi Mary, you're right. it is quite costly. Hoping it gets more affordable with time, like most tech. However, cost subsidy will most certainly be a personal journey. Maybe going through the buy now, pay later companies or other traditional lending. I hope this answered your question 😁
Thank you very much! they try to answer initial enquiries with a bot, but I’m sure if problems persist at some point you’d be able to talk with a human
Thank you Marie! Did this test somewhere between 30-50km from Lagos. My definition for remote was more to do with the distance from the city. Which was almost a 3hr drive. Has this been helpful? Did I answer your question properly? 😃
You guys realise that if someone is in a location where they can barely have any access to internet, then they most definitely can’t afford this at all, like you said brother, the people whom this project is supposed to be saving unfortunately can’t afford it.
I heard from someone that you can't change the address of the first location where it was first installed Please how would like to know if the location was changeable because from your video it worked in the village as well
I thought it doesn’t work outside your registered service area address. How were you able to get it to work in another location far away from the first location please?
Hi Easyyoke, to do this you need to enable the portability feature. That way you can use it outside your registered address. This feature is not free though 😢
Hi... You on residential service ? How did you use it in two different service address (Lagos and Ogun) without it failing in one? I thought it worked only in one location except you update service address which may be cumbersome. Or could it be because you are still on trial that you can move it anywhere?
I'm using the RV service too so paying $53 monthly. But we need someone using residential who is done with trial days to take his kit to another place and tell us the experience if done with ease or not.
You will have to order on the website at starlink.com or deal with one of your trusted sellers in computer village. I’d go for directly from Starlink though.
can starlink work anywhere or must it be the exact service address you used ? please confirm and how long did you get after is been shipped? because where m staying no google in the axact location. does it matter.. because i used another service address to order for the starlink but am not setting it up there to enable me get my item.
Starlink will try to give you the best speeds at your service address. So best thing will be to change your service address when you get it. In order to make it work everywhere you’ll have to pay for a portability feature, that will take cost around $11 a month. It took 2 weeks, but I’ve heard wait times have since increased. I hope I’ve answered your questions?
@@DamiShinkaiye yes, I understand, I don’t want the portability features, I just want to get it installed in one location, but any need of changing the location even if I take it to where I want at first installation? So how has Starlinks been so far you’ve been using it. My shipment is this week but they haven’t shipped it yet.
Do adding portability increase my internet speed or just only allows me to move my Starlinks anywhere without changing my location. Because my areas is showing I can see around just 100mbs
@@osagiechidi2484 adding portability won’t really increase your internet speed. It does however let you take it with you anywhere. But I won’t recommend that if you’re not changing locations very often
