That is the best and most thorough review of obstructions and impacts I’ve seen. Thank you. I have a similar situation down here in Oz. 4.2% obstructions and the installer is telling me it isn’t going to work at all. As it is my only solution, I don’t have much choice.
@@richardhoward5221Yes, perfectly. Well actually not quite. For the first week, it worked for General Internet and streaming tv, but Zoom or Teams meetings were impossible. However, after a week, it seemed to settle down and now I rarely notice an issue. I think it took that first week to make any small adjustments it needed and now it is great. I’m very happy I installed it.
I ripped the leg off mine, drilled some rivets into it, mounted to it to the roof of my campervan and often park in forests. I still get anything from 30-100 mbps download. Ive never noticed any issues, that's more than enough for 99% of regular user stuff. I freaking love it.
Thanks for sharing your experience. We are in our 30 day trial trying to decide if we want to keep StarLink. We are in an RV and travel alot. In about 2 weeks we are going to be camping in some tall pine trees with some small open spaces. Your experience gives us hope that we will get usable speed. Even 2-3M down and 500K-1M will work for what we need. Thanks for the reporting.
Thanks for this. I’m just about out of the trial period - same obstruction issues, lots of big pine trees. Going to give Starlink some further latitude.
We have very similar results on our forest property in Oregon. I mounted the dish on the roof and it worked great for about 14 months in every kind of weather including blizzards. We went from 1 Mbs DSL to about 120 Mbs with Starlink. Then we started getting outages for hours, then days at a time. After several weeks of trying to communicate with Starlink tech support they had me move the dish to a different area with same results. Then they sent me a new cable with same results. They told me they did a diagnostic and the dish was only working at about half speed and frequently zero communication so now they are sending me an entirely new system , dish, router and cable. We should receive it today, hoping for the best.
Thanks for this video! Glad to find your channel. Looks interesting! I am in a similar situation with trees. I am in the Mark Twain National Forest on Table Rock Lake in the Ozarks. Mucho árboles. I installed Starlink on my roof too. I installed it with the Starlink roof mount that has the ballasts. Kinda wondering if an extension pole with the roof mount might work? I have not seen an extension pole, but I think the combined weight of the ballasts is about 55 lbs. I mean (nose crinkled) it could be okay? The reason I am commenting is because I am wondering how you fared with the winter and the snow?
Great explanation. I live in your general area with similar topography and lots of huge trees. Do yourself a huge favor and get a much taller ladder to get up on your roof so you are not placing any weight on the very top like to did at 5:04 . That risk can become a life changing disaster in the blink of an eye. It could easily pitch you off the top of the ladder and over the balcony rail. Imagine that fall...
Bystander comment: it's worth it to be safe on ladders. We had a neighbor who fell off a ladder, broke his ankle and died under anesthesia to repair his ankle. 💔
Non-gamer confirmed. That short interruptions, video streams easily buffer through or occasional robotic voice artifacts in video conferences - some of that would probably manifest as disconnects or severe lag in online games.
Does Starlink have a support email or phone I can call to see if my obstructions will cause an issue. Currently the app says some interruptions, but what does some mean?
Just thought I'd put out there that the obstructions he has from just putting his starlink on his roof would be detrimental if you want to do a task that required low latency like online gaming.
I have 38% obstruction and it’s the best spot. I have 2 more smaller trees to remove but there’s 4 I just can’t remove and they’re the worst offenders. Next option is telescoping pole.
Thanks so much for the video! Would you be willing to do an explainer of how you installed your dish? Our roof is similar to yours and we're not sure how to attach it. Cheers!
Have you encountered service disruptions during specific time of a day (like from afternoon to midnight)? I found my dish sent a lot of obstruction warning in the afternoon.
@@outthereinit thank you so much!! Is there any chance I could maybe set up a quick call the you to ask mountain living specific questions about starlink experience? I have lived in Tahoe for 25+ years and I’m fed up with Spectrum services. I like the idea of this service but could really benefit from some specific scenario recommendations. I could send you video footage of our Tahoe property in advance. I so appreciate your response to my question and your love of Mtn. Living
