@@deang5622 This isn't true as the governance of the British economy is not a stop start affair where the new government comes in with a clean slate. The problem is that Boris couldn't even manage his own disastrous spending let alone that of the country and he ran up enormous debts which the UK can never repay. Any amount of debt to GDP over 30% creates fiscal drag and we are now above 100% No fiat currency has ever survived and we are at its end now, we could have continued for many more years but Boris put paid to that.

I don't remember anyone complaining about Jeremy Hunt not increasing the personal tax allowance, that was frozen in 2021 at £12570. If it had increased by inflation it would be around £15244, meaning anyone, including pensioners, on £15244 or less, would pay no income tax at all. As it is, someone on around £15000 would now pay an additional £500 per year. When Jeremy Hunt reduced National Insurance by 2% in January 2024 and a further 2% around April 2024, I don't remember the pensioners demonstrating in parliament square, complaining that it would have helped the pensioners that if instead of NI reductions, it had been reduction of income tax by 4%. I doubt anyone here did. Let's not forget, Prime Minister Theresa May was advocating taking your home away should you need social care, so you couldn't give the house to your children. Yet there are people commenting here about getting whacked for inheritance tax by Labour, a tax that only 20% of people, mainly very wealthy, pay. How many people here complained every time vat went up? From 8% to 15% to 17.5% and then 20%? A tax that is classed as regressive, as it is the same percentage for everyone irrespective of what you earn, unlike income tax and NI which is progressive. I doubt anyone here did, because all the vat increases have been implemented by tories.

I seem to remember rishi,whilst chancellor, looking at means testing the state pension? Also, every time a tory mp is on tv, he / she talks about a small state. This means YOU sort out your pension, YOU sort out your health care. You've only got to look at the Victorian era when we had a small state, to see how well that will go.
