You forgot about David (Northern Galloway) 1948-1990, Mr. Macintosh (Chester O'Brien) 1909-1996, Uncle Wally (Bill McCutcheon) 1924-2002, and Tom (Larry Block) 1942-2012. I'm glad Caroll Spinney made it to the 50th Anniversary in November 2019 a month before he died in December.
@@benjaminspinney8718 I remember seeing a clip of he 50th Anniversary special, where if you watch it, Carroll Spinney was seen briefly singing along while being physically aided by the actor who played Luis and a woman who may have been Spinney's wife. I can say I legitimately miss him as Big Bird because he added such a pathos to the character's personality, but I know all things shall pass.
Northern Calloway - not included here - was brilliant as David. Very sadly, his mental health began to decline during his time on 'Sesame Street', and this eventually resulted in his having to be dismissed from the show. In addition to a series of unfortunate legal problems and offences, he had apparently professed his love to Alison Bartlett, who played Gina Jefferson, when he visited her, unannounced, at her high school. Calloway, after being admitted to a psychiatric institution, following his termination from 'Sesame Street' in 1989, became involved in a violent altercation with a staff physician. He had previously been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, and not long after being re-located to a hospital, following the incident at the institution, he died of Excited Delerium Syndrome. He was only 41. His story is very heart-breaking. As a kid, I remember him always having been funny and quirky as David. I hope he is resting peacefully, and that he has been released from his torment.
Emilio Ernest Delgado, who played Luis, passed away on March 10th, 2022. He could sing, play the guitar and I enjoyed watching his character as a child. I'm glad my kids got to view him, as well as the other original actors, on VHS 📼 and DVD 📀.
And now Bob McGrath, too (who passed on Dec. 4th, 2022). I not only watched Sesame Street as a kid, but had at least one vinyl record of Bob's stories and singing (Sesame Street themed).
I was born in 1965 and I’m a watcher from the very beginning. I loved this show when I was a little kid and having my own kids watching it was really awesome too. Mr Rogers, The Electric Company and Sesame Street all my favorite shows as a small child
Totally awesome! SESAME was huge here, in Australia also. Among so many other characters and skits that endowed me with a clown's approach to life, it was certainly Ernie who molded me into the stirring prankster I have been since I was a kid!!!
He died either in a squad car or something...he had mental issues later in life, but his death was sort of a mystery, I just heard he had a breakdown and died in the police car, something like that.
Jim Henson will be miss. I didn’t know much of him because I was born in 1989 and he died in 1990. But I saw some video of his interviews and he seems like a very kind and genuine person. He was definitely a genius of entertainment.
You forgot to mention Northern Calloway, who was best known as one of the human characters David from 1971-1989. Unfortunately, the actor himself had a lot of personal demons namely being bipolar. Subsequently, some time after being released from "Sesame Street" he had a lot of legal issues. Unfortunately, Northern died in a psychiatric hospital 8 months after he was committed.
Yes, I am sure there were lots omitted as there were many children who appeared through the years and perhaps adult "extras" as well as guest appearances from many stars such as Jim Nabors, Madelyn Khan and many others. I don't know when this video was made, but some are missing, such as the man who played David.
You forgot Northern Calloway who played David He was on the show a lot longer than some of the other people mentioned. There's a lot written about him in the book Street Gang
I have dystonia like Carrol. My right wrist is now deformed because of it and there's no known cure. Medications or Botox shots can only do so much. It is debilitating.
R.I.P. and THANK YOU to ALL the stars from Sesame Street who have passed away. I will always LOVE Sesame Street no matter how old I get. Sesame Street is one of my favorite programs of ALL time.
7:36 Michael Jeter was my childhood. I loved watching him and Bill Irwin as the Noodle brothers on Elmo's World. I remember two Jeter episodes in particular that are my favorite: one where he uses a large push broom to brush his hair (Elmo's World: Hair) and the children shouted "THAT'S A BROOM!", and another one (Elmo's World: Plants) where he pours water from a glass on the floor, and a child shouted "Nnnnnooooooo! Not on the floor!" It's been 21 years since Michael passed away from a seizure at the young age of 50.
I started watching Sesame Street in the 1980's. I am very grateful that many of us had a show that had great influence and a lot of great lessons and blessings in our childhood.
Thank you All Sesame Street Family who went on to Glory..your memories will forever bein my heart and soul not only myself but millions of others..you will never be forgotten and what we learned to make us who we are today..THANK YOU..I bow and Applaude you in your final performances in life we love you..wished you were here today maybe this generation would be more respectful!
Having used to watch Sesame Street alot growing up, Michael Earl was literally the only one I didn't know. If it weren't for the extremely limited background info, I think one should also be done for the performers on Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. I know several other contributors besides Rogers himself died after the show ended, including Bill Barker, Carole Switala, Audrey Roth and Don "Mr. Anybody" Franks. And of course, we all know Don Brockett, Bob Trow, John Reardon and Johnny Costa were gone during the show's years in production, as was the elderly poetry lady Emilie Jacobson.
Sesame Street hasn't been the same since all the original human actors left the series. It should also be noted that the actor who played Luis recently passed away as well. I periodically watch a newer episode of Sesame Street with their new cast, and it might as well be a totally different show. It's a stark and grim reminder that I'm getting older too. Everything and everyone I knew and loved from my past is slipping away from me one-by-one. All those fond memories of Luis, Mr. Hooper, Gordon, and countless others living their idyllic lives on Sesame Street are reduced to memories now. What replaced them is something I just don't identify with. May all the former cast who are no longer with us rest in peace.
I agree! I started watching Sesame Street in 1970-71 when in High School and it was actually considered "cool" to discuss the episodes with friends. Then in the 1980's I watched with my son and he grew up singing songs such as "Rubber Ducky" and learned so much from the show. I also can't identify with the current show.
The original Gordon Matt Robinson I think he passed away back in 2001or 2002 from memory from PD!! He also voiced my favourite Muppet Roosevelt Franklin!!
My mom and her brothers and sisters went to school with Carol Spinny. Actually him and my aunt dated for a little bit back in the day. I just wish I knew sooner so could have met him.
it's a Shame these People are not Around anymore I used to watch this along side Barney the Dinosaur since that was a Guy in a Giant Dinosaur Costume too but these Legends on Sesame Street like Big Bert or Mr. Snuffleupagus are no longer with us and they seemed like Good Friends In and Out of Costume on Set RIP Carroll Spinney and Jerry Nelson yes these were my 2 Favorites on Sesame Street!
Mr. Hooper, Will Lee, was the only character announced dead on the show as they did back in the mid-80s when the remaining cast told Big Bird about it. I've never seen any announcements of the other characters from the show.
Yes, we knew about both Jim Henson and Richard Hunt. While you said beautiful things about Jim & acknowledged that we probably knew, it’s still insulting to them both to put them on this list. Any real fan knows. You also forgot Northern Calloway. Unacceptable.
WPJB, WBRU, and WGNG simulecasted the Farewell Mr. Hooper. The other episodes were the hirricane shows, and the specials, When Families Grive, and thenhomeless one were carried by WPRO, WWLI, and WWKX carried the epiodes.
David played by Northern Callaway David and Maria dated for a couple of seasons then they broke up and Maria married Luis. Northern passed away around the time of Jim Henson in 1990 IIRC.
When I see this, it's a short time after a Belgian actress died. She acted in the Dutch/Flemish version of Sesame Street, also in the days I watched it. 🙁
She’s still alive, and in the new West Side Story movie. Yes, I know she was in the original one. Also, her episode of The Muppet Show is one of my favorites
While I agree about Northern, it wasn't a fail to not mention Emilio or Bob. They didn't die until about a year after this was recorded. It'll probably get updated soon.
I've not watched the video.. I just came here to say I will NOT be watching this video because I refuse to cry!!! I'm ALREADY tearing up!!! I'm old school Sesame Street BEFORE Elmo!! I was around when Mr.Hooper died..💔 😭
I was on the show from late 72-81. One person that was left out was Northern Calloway who played- David. A super talented guy who could- act, sing, dance and lovely to act with on the show.
....wait. , I know David past away , cause when I found out years back I always wondered why it wasnt big deal like mr hooper, respectively, love both of them, just So many of my sesame street records were of just David, very talented and entertaining,he collaborated so well with all the muppets just hangin' on the stoop...
Why put Jim Henson on the list if you're going to immediately suggest that he shouldn't be on the list? Also, I think most people who read the news knew about Caroll Spinney's and Raul Julia's deaths.
All of the geniuses behind the Muppets are either gone or retired. Since Jim Henson's death, the Disney Corporation ruined the Muppets and HBO totally jacked up Sesame Street. It's no longer innocent and simple as it once was.
There are many more people who worked for the show. Jane Aaron, Karen Aqua, many of these collaborators especially the composers and writers. They all had a great time working together and even though they died at a young age, they will always be remembered by us.
