It not really about record keeping, it more about moving the said records. You can trust the unreliable warp travel, use astropaths to send a message like a game of chinese whispers, or lastly use light speed communication systems.

Half of Mechanicus turned traitors!!! So maybe half of the record keepers tried to destroy the records!!! How the hell could the loyalists protect those totally intact? Not to mention many of those knowledges was actually in the head of high ranking magus priority targets at the time.

I wouldn't be surprised if the tech prayers were merely excerpts from instruction manuals in lost languages beeped in binary [like the ritual to calm the machine spirit of a cogitator is just "menu/programs/accessories/checkdisk>run" in binarry, with the icon looking like the great cog)

I was combining Herbert's Dune with what you said earlier, plus something to make it sound silly... Since you came back at me with Jordan's Wheel of Time series, and I don't know why you're pumping ENT, my joke obviously didn't land. Further, since I just explained it, well... it must not be funny.

Actually they do know a lot of it. Hell, they can even built much of what they have and understand it. The thing is, most of the ADM are what can best be said as glorified mechanics. They have enough understanding to repair, maintain, and in a pinch create the more simpler things. The more specialized and higher up are actually closer to scientists and engineers who know what they are doing... provided the technology is something they can understand. Some of the Imperiums more advance stuff is far to complex and advanced for them. At most they probably understand half of the sciences behind it. There actually implications that the most advanced things the Imperium wields were in party or was fully made by AI.

I personally have a fondness for the Avenger class Grand Cruisers, for their primary tactic of just charging Leroy Jenkins style into the middle of enemy formations and just blazing away with all guns in broadside for broadside close range slugging matches and on the opposite end, the Cobra class Destroyer, because they are gutsy little ships that if used correctly can punch WAY above their weight, especially when they hunt together in packs.

Well, Traitor warships, originally WERE Imperial. The Vengeful Spirit, flagship of the the Arch Traitor Abbadon the Despoiler and before him *FFFFFFFFFFUCKING HORUS* , is a Gloriana class battleship, same class as the Emperor's own flagship the Bucephalus and Macragge's Honour, flagship of the Ultramarines

The problem with doing this lore is that you have to assume the people have some fore knowledge, or will be interested enough to look it up. I actually intend to do a break down of the technology at some point though..

The Adeptus Mechanicus lost the STC pattern for gelato machines millennia ago and gelato itself is outlawed under the dictates of the Imperial Book of Judgement. To be fair though, the Book of Judgement says a lot of things, nearly all of it totally contradictory in the extreme, so it is also mandatory to have gelato every single day, even though it is outlawed

We in the Mechanicus do it all the time with Titans, Bane blades, plasma weapons, void shields, Astarte's power armor and Terminator armor. Cobra torpedo destroyers and various escort ships, light, medium and heavy cruisers so why not with the Battleships?

@@manchannel7003 Well, as I said hearsay. In a recent video of EckhartsLadder, people complained that some new rule book, screws the lore etc. I'm not in those circles, so I didn't even know what the book said that made people so angry.

As 1d4chab puts it, everything is Canon, atleast in the head of the drunken Guardsmen who told you that story. Regarding the Canon changes well... A lot as changed. First of all Guilliman is back and has allied himself with an Eldar faction (some say he is much more than an ally for Yvraine, but as his personal bodyguard I, Cato Sicarius, can assure you nothing heretical ever happened). Then Abbadon the (H)armless previous Black Crusades before the 13th were not a failure for... reasons... Third the Necrons are even less scary. Fourth War in Heaven lore is uncertain thanks to a book that changes it from Old Ones & Co vs C'tan and Necrons to Nectontyr and Eldar Empire vs Chaos (since the Civil War between the Eldar Gods was also called War in Heaven I, Cato Sicarius, prefer to consider all versions as Canon as first (Old Ones vs C'Tans), second (Eldar and Necrontyr vs Chaos) and third (Eldar Gods civil war) War in Heaven). Fifth the Emperor is now officially fractured, with the parts of him on the throne being mostly assholes and other parts randomly possessing people. On top of all this PRIMARIS MARINES.

They don't know how to reverse engineer it.. All of the Mechanicus resources are going just to keep it going and to keep it repaired. they aren't able to build new ones, and they don't know how.. for the moment atleast.

I...actually hope they don't...they bought back Necromunda and to play it you now need...6 or 7 books?...then you've got the new designs of Cawdor. Delaque and Van-Saar who are just awful...I don't trust them to do a good job at all of the rules and minis. And rumours are the new fleet game will be horus heresy ONLY...no orks. Eldar. Everyone is the same ship...it's gonna be like Titanicus. Bland and boring garbage

I'd say common sense really. All 40k stuff requires maintenance and if your main broadside causes further damage then it's more to fix. In game terms it also causes damage to the engines which you can attribute to being less maneuverable in background as this damage would get worse and worse

@@jamesvalentine2845 Not all critical hits are actually damage. For example, normal boarding actions generally cause low level critical hits that signify the disruption to your command of your weapons systems as enemy boarders rampage around your ship and kill the crew. Similarly, I see the thrusters critical hit caused by the special attack range as more or a power drain than actual damage. As for maintenance issues... it's no different than any other warship, even a 21st century one. Just magnified by the fact that the ship in question is bigger than most cities. (and the fact that even changing a lightbulb in 40k requires a 20 minute ceremony with prayers and incense)

The maintenance issues probably stems from the use of its Plasma Reactors and how they're used to increase the range of its Lance weapons. 10 thousand years of doing that causes the conduits to be less in shape. And we should all know how well Imperium Plasma anything works in 40k. warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Apocalypse-class_Battleship Also in the Rogue Trader RPG books there's a "smaller" Battlecrusier that has a similar loadout and has the same issue

@@MrSunshine1079 Um... every imperial ship uses plasma reactors as their primary source of power. In fact, some of the larger vehicles do as well. Man-portable plasma tech may be unreliable in the Imperium, but plasma reactors are basically how they power everything.
