In the episode all good things its stated that the Klingons conquered the romulan empire so there is no treaty because the romulans are now a slave race to the Klingons no doubt why the Klingons and federation had there relationships go sour.

We love it because we were tired of watching the Galaxy class ship get its ass handed to it on a regular basis. Time after time we watched the Enterprise D and every other Galaxy class be disabled or taken out of the fight with only a few shots , and I also were tired of the Federations suicidal commitment to pacifism in the face of annihilation from an enemy who refused to even entertain Diplomacy. As far as I am concerned I never understood why the Federation couldn't or wouldn't adopted the philosophy of Speak softly but Carry a big stick, why the federation with all its resources and technology could not create a fleet of ships that could explore the farthest reaches and whoop Ass when called upon?

I never could see why the Federation adopted a mindset of near-pacifism. Humanity has always excelled at warfare and I fail to see how the Federation, if backed far enough into a corner, wouldn't turn toward a more militaristic mindset. I think the Federation forgot some of the most critical things to remember; that being "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance" and "If you want peace, prepare for war." Sometimes the best way to prevent war is to be the biggest and baddest out there, so much so that nobody will want to mess with you.
@azram63
@azram63 5 лет назад
Obviously as a result of the Dominion War, the Federation did adopt a more militaristic role for Star Fleet. The Sovereign, Akira, Saber, Steamrunner, Norway, and Defiant classes were all designed as warships and they retrofitted the Galaxy, Excelsior, Nebula, and Intrepid classes for war as well. Even in the TNG movies that took place after the Dominion War you could tell Star Fleet had a more militaristic posture.

I can tell you why we love it. Same reason people like the Prometheus and defiant. As much as fans love the message of "peace" and exploration in trek, and that is a HUGE reason the shows have thrived, at some point you get tired of seeing all these alien races with their OP ships showing up and owning the Federation. In this case, the hero ship we had spent 7 years with was now that OP ship we all wished it was. Plus, there's no explanation for it, sometimes it's the things we don't know that make us want more.

The Galaxy class was the hero ship that kept getting its keister kicked from Sol to Alpha Centari and back. Seeing the full potential of that space frame do the same to a competing ship class was very satisfying where I think most of the love comes from...the Enterprise can now seriously kick ass. Now imagine her up against the Borg Cube.

I'll assume the dreadnaught form of the galaxy used up all that space reserved for science and civilians to add in extra shields and weapons and power generation. The dominion war refits mainly removed it all to decrease build cost and time but didn't use up the extra space past beefing up the shields and adding in a third torp bay.

What I like most was less that it was a ship of war and more that it was the Enterprise herself- instead of getting punk'd by a SINGLE bird of prey and some Klingons like the original Enterprise DECADES before, it continued to serve, changed with the times, and still had what it took to win the day instead of going down in flames. Clearly capable of kicking aft and taking names, but it was a flagship in a supposed time of war after all, and like you said this proves that the Galaxy has the CAPACITY to reach this level. Some Galaxy ships were even getting the extra phaser strips on their nacelles as cannon progressed- can't help but wonder if this is how the Enterprise-D might have ended up looking by the end of the Dominion war if she lasted that long...
@DeHerg
@DeHerg 4 года назад
"more that it was the Enterprise herself- instead of getting punk'd by a SINGLE bird of prey " 1. In that case the Enterprise's shields were compromised(made useless) due to enemy intelligence 2. The crew reacted in the dumbest way possible: - trying to tektek the enemies shields away which took minutes instead of blasting them away with phasers and torpedos in seconds - slowly turning around which only served to expose its underbelly(with warpcore and antimatter storage) directly to the enemy for no tactical reason(slowly turning on the spot is not an evasive maneuver) -> The reasons for that defeat weren't design related but user error

@Euripides_Panz
@Euripides_Panz 5 лет назад
There are things that point to evolution rather than a one-off Admiral's ship. Starfleet had been pushed on many fronts for years, and finally began reevaluating its defense. At one point Negh'varr may have outgunned Galaxy, but as the Federation committed more resources to defense, the Galaxy-class saw at least a third increase in defense capabilities during the Dominion War, and benefits from technology gained afterward. The base model should be more than a challenge. Galaxy-X would have a distinct advantage against this lighter model Negh'varr, which is why the second warship broke off when the Enterprise destroyed the first warship to protect Pasteur.

I think our enjoyment at seeing beefed up Federation warships has less with us wanting to see war all the time on Trek (it can be done well and it can be overdone just as quickly), and more to do with the fact that it shows the Federation with competence and balls. The more they explore the galaxy the more they see that it is a dangerous place, and it's better to have and not need than to need and not have. If the need arose, I'd want to have the most powerful weapons and ships at my disposal.

I think the ship says more about the Federation than that they can make a warship. I like it for two reasons. The first is that it is a good defensive weapon, and shows that Federation citizens are willing to fight to save their way of life. The second is that it is a refit of a ship of peace. That means that the Federation is continuing to use exploration ships, and merely arm them for war at need, as a posed to mass producing purpose built warships.
@thegreenmanofnorwich
@thegreenmanofnorwich 4 года назад
Yeah, I didn't mind the Defiant or Prometheus as a very limited production run of ships, but I always preferred the thought that the Federation had a "fine, you won't do diplomacy and peace, which is our way; your way is war, have it your way and don't say we didn't give you every chance"

The Galaxy class got Worfed a lot - beaten up to prove the power and threat posed by a new villain or adversary. It was great to see the Galaxy finally be what it was designed to be - the flagship of the Federation, with the power to backup its position in the fleet.

Starfleet is a military organization that also does science, exploration and diplomacy -- rather like naval warships in the Age of Sail...Pretty simple. Some people want to avoid the military tone, mostly because they don't understand that not even the Great Bird of the Galaxy really understood what he was crafting -- from TOSs first ep, GR established a military tone, by naming his ship after one of the most battle-hardened vessels in the history of the US Navy, and the bulk of Terran-centric Starfleet ship names through Voyager reflect this. People like the 1701-X because it doesn't hide the fact that it's a battleax. Because it shouldn't have to. Being military isn't bad -- most militaries simply don't fight that often, yet they are usually a cross section of the society that build them, and the behavior of their crews reflect that.
@MigrantThought
@MigrantThought 5 лет назад
TBH, I always say StarFleet as the Star Trek equivalent of japans "Peacekeeping" military force that is more of a police force. With a Exploration/Science background. Local, military struggles are handled by local militias and other organizations. We see this in TNG, and fore example the Vulcan Explortory force, we dont see a ship but they do come to the rescue of odo in the gamma quadrent. But Star Fleet can always knee jerked into a Military if needed.
@DrewLSsix
@DrewLSsix 5 лет назад
@@MigrantThought Japan gets the luxury of not maintaining a real military because its under US protection. If they get into a real war its US ships that'll be doing the heavy fighting. The federation doesn't seem to be in that situation, unless you count the Organians.
@dparky1627
@dparky1627 5 лет назад
The Japanese Self-Defense Force isn't something to sneeze at. But it's just that, a self-defense force. It's not to be used in an expeditionary role. The "No-War" clause in their Constitution prohibits the use of their military outside of the Japanese Home Islands and territorial waters unless it's in a noncombat role, such as with the U.N. or NATO Forces.

Starfleet,despite multiple losses has never actually totally lost a war against...anyone. This is largely due to the Federation being the largest power in the Alpha Quadrant, but also the sheer number of starships they can field. They may not be totally designed for war but are still powerful enough to fight similarly equipped ships from other powers. Until the Dominion one could count on a Starfleet vessel to put up a fight one on one against a similar ship, barring certain circumstances.

@liljenborg2517
@liljenborg2517 5 лет назад
I liked the extra guns, but I was always a stickler for GR's rules that nacelles had to come in pairs. On the one hand, the ship kicked butt in a way we never got to see the Enterprise D doing. On the other hand it was obviously kitbashed because the extra nacelle and the little guns on either side of the bridge simply communicated in one quick shot that the ship had been upgraded from "luxury hotel in space" to "kick butt and take names space battleship". That's also what the "warp 13" was for even though all fans knew that warp 10 was infinite speed (what would three factors passed infinity miles per second be?); just something to communicate how much better/stronger/faster the upgraded Enterprise really was.
@Venslor
@Venslor 5 лет назад
The Galaxy-class is the Lt. Worf of ship designs. There are entire videos on RU-vid that have Worf getting his ass kicked, and the reason is incredibly simple: he's the 2nd strongest person on the ship (Data is almost certainly stronger) and the chief of security, so if you want to demonstrate how strong and dangerous an alien is, put the alien in Deanna Troi's body and have it throw Worf across the bridge. The Galaxy-class suffers a similar fate. When TNG started, it was the flagship and more than capable of giving the Romulans, Klingons, or Cardassians a run for their money. Many times, when the shows writers wanted to demonstrate just how powerful a threat was, they used a Galaxy-class' destruction to do so. Think of the first encounter with the Dominion and the USS Odyssey. The writers could have used any ship design for this, but they wanted to demonstrate just how powerful the Dominion was, so a Galaxy-class was used instead of the much more prevalent Excelsior class. Plus, there is also a bit of nostalgia and love for the Galaxy-class because of the Enterprise.

"It's telling that no matter what future alternate time line we see the Federation in... it's always one of war." With the possible exception of the Kelvin timeline, the Star Trek multiverse is a lot like the Marvel Multiverse. If things don't go exactly as they did in the Prime/616 timeline then the entire universe seems to tear itself apart in some way, either literally or metaphorically. Also this variant of the Galaxy class is my favorite ship design in all of Trek, so great to finally see a video on it, even if there is not much information to go over. As for why I like it, well it breaks not only Mr. Roddenberry's rules on ship design (Even number of nacelles that need line of sight in order to function) and on how the Federation should act (From what I hear Roddenberry kept on saying that the Feds are not a military and this is a warship, you don't make those if you're not a military), but it also plays into the episode well while at the same time breaking some conventions TNG has set up in the previous seasons. The Enterprise, much like many of the characters in the show, is at this point like an old friend you know inside and out. So in this alt future it, again like many of the characters in the show, has gone through so many changes it is almost unrecognizable in both appearance and mainly in how it acts. Which brings us back to it breaking some of TNG's conventions. While there are exceptions usually whenever the Enterprise gets into a fight whoever they're up against is at least on par with them, so assuming the battle is not interrupted/stopped by a third party or the characters coming to some sort of understanding, even when the Enterprise wins it is pretty messed up afterwards. The Galaxy X Enterprise on the other hand is the exact opposite, it is the one that messes others up, and it makes its presence known with a hail of phaser fire rather than attempting to talk out of a fight first like we've always seen it do up to this point. The Galaxy X Enterprise is a stone cold mother fucker. Jeez this was longer than I thought it'd be, sorry for the wall of text.

If Starfleet were no military, who would defend the Federation. That is the biggest issue. Only because humanity (and the Federation) are beyond things like war or money, doesn't mean others are. Every time a Klingon Empire, Borg Collective or Dominion comes around they need a military. Every time they want to exchange goods with other cultures they need some kind of money (or return to barter). Those changes will only work if everyone is in on it on the same level.

We actually saw what the Federation changed into when Enterprise-C disappeared and the Klingons declared war on the Federation for two decades. The Empire eroded Starfleet's resolve, eventually destroying half the fleet and killing 40 billion citizens. Picard implies things are far worse, because he states Command predictions point to toward a forced surrender within 6 months. The Federation had been mostly at peace before that and weren't properly introduced to the Borg, Dominion, and other advanced aggressive powers. Before the Dominion War, a Founder infiltrated Klingon Command and urged them into attacking Cardassia, alienating the Federation, breaking that peace treaty, then with Cardassia in ruins they attacked the Federation for about 18 month, but were merely slowed down by Starfleet defenses. Resumption of Klingon hostilities and impending conflict the Dominion saw many Starfleet ship types equipped with 35-percent greater defense capabilities. The loss of Odyssey and Enterprise within a year, made Command pay special attention to improving existing Galaxy starships and redesigning new builds. While hardware was being addressed, Starfleet was assigning assets into robust layers of defense, augmented by bases and static fleets to handle specific threats.

Why we find this vessel appealing: Just because it rectifies at least a bit the 'rape' of the Galaxy class starship as we have seen in both Generations as in the destruction of the USS Odyssey against 3 pity full Jem'Hadar fighters. Yes, I know the fighters penetrated the shields of the Odyssey, but like in Generations we don't see it using it's full complements of weapons available, AS seen the Enterprise doing it against the (fake) Husnock warship, The first fight against a Borg cube and also the continuously pumping photon torpedo's from the aft launcher as seen in Encounter at Farpoint. This refitted Enterprise-D did at least a bit of homage of how powerful this ship actually is, even without these enhancements and it felt good how it easily destroyed that Negh-Var Vessel.

I always figured that in the alternate timeline, the Klingon Empire was destabilizing (they were always relatively poor, and only were able to prop up their economy through conquest). This is why the Klingons are allowing medical ships in, and why Worf was able to secure their safe passage, yet they came under attack anyway. Chances are, the houses are fragmented again, and that would explain why the Negh'Var wouldn't have been upgraded just like the Galaxy, and therefore easily defeated. It's quite possible we may be seeing the events that may lead to the Klingons (or at least, most of the Klingons) joining the Federation, but not without a fight. As far as why I like the Galaxy X, it's mostly because it's nice to see the Galaxy class kicking ass for a change. Sure, we see it kick some ass in DS9 (at least, post USS Odyssey), but for the largest most powerful ship Starfleet had fielded at the time, the Galaxy got its ass handed to it all the time in TNG.

What if yue all good thing galaxy x class had upgraded mark 12 phaser and the added 3rd nacelles was used as a warp field stablizer allowing the uss enterprise d sublass x to travel up to warp15 or even as high as warp 20 maxium emerancy speed which i thought when i first watched all good things hene cruising speed of warp 13 for tue uss enterprise d-x considering a stanard galaxy nacelle has 2 set of warp coils in then. What if the third nacelle managed to for 4 sets of warp coils which could add a lot to warp speed. Shields and weapons in battle?
@KGillis
@KGillis 5 лет назад
The way it's always been explained to me is that adding nacelles isn't like adding more engines, it's like adding more wheels. Adding another wheel to your vehicle doesn't increase speed, but it may stabilize your vehicle allowing it to reach higher speeds without losing stability. So, the added nacelle likely helped with allowing the Galaxy X to maintain a higher cruise speed for much longer, but I don't think it's necessarily the reason the Galaxy X could reach speeds higher than 10 (on a new scale). Hell, it could be that they decided to go back to the old TOS scale (Warp 13 on the TOS scale is roughly equivalent to Warp 9.71 on the TNG scale), after they realized that setting Warp 10 as a hard cap of "infinite speed" was kind of stupid.
@darrenholcomb7203
@darrenholcomb7203 2 года назад
Battlestar Enterprise - couple thoughts: I have always surmised that the TNG warp speed recalibration was due to the Excelsior era transwarp ultimately being achieved and made the standard propulsion system fleet wide in the decades since. (Amazing what happens when you DON'T pull circuits out of a ships transwarp computer drive).But it then being discovered to cause damage to subspace, by All Good Things era, transwarp had to be abandoned and a return to standard but very high warp would see factors in the teens (TOS Enterprise once achieved warp 12 or 14 under extreme stress). As for the third nacelle, thats clearly from TMP era development about channeling phasers thru main engines to increase power - which still have to provide propulsion and if imbalanced cause phasers to be cut off. The work around is add a third warp nacelle who's sole function is to provide all its power channeled into a single devastatingly powerful phaser weapon which is the spinal lance.

@Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent
Its a combination of Both. On one hand its a new ship and the geek in everyone likes new ships. The Cynical side of us also recognize the fact that realistically the Federation needs to have dedicated warships for future or present conflicts as her policy of having families on wayward ships going into deep space and defending shipping lanes or borders is well stupid. This starts to end when the federation starts introducing warships to combat the Borg which gave them the ship designs they needed to combat the Dominion. When you get to Voyager which takes place during and after the Dominion War, We already have the Akira, the Steam Runner, the Defiant, the Promethues, The Saber class, these were all warships. Heck even Voyagers class of ship the Intrepid Class a long range explorer was surprisingly well armed, and frighteningly adaptable that by the time it popped back up into federation space was the most technologically advanced ship in the fleet to the point it could one shot Borg ships tackle enemies well above its weight and even without all the crazy updates by the end of its run was shown at one point to take a hell of a beating and still get back into the fight against a technologically Superior foe. Yeah that's not a simple peaceful exploration vessel. Fast forward 40 years later to STO with the destruction of the Hobius Star and the breakdown of Romulan, Klingon, and Federation relations, the return of the Borg and the Undine, its pretty damn obvious the federation saw the writing on the wall and naturally started . .

@lore I agree with you 100% on this one, it's a beautiful warship, made for war. I always imagine this timeline being one where Starfleet won the Dominion war out of sheer willpower and perhaps a bit of un(expected) luck with the death of the founders. In All Good things, Worf is still Ambassador to Klingon Empire just like DS9, which would only have happened if he killed Gowron and Martok, his sworn brother, was now chancellor. Also, the Romulans were conquered by the Klingons in this timeline, so it goes to reason that the Treaty of Algeron would have likely been null in void without a Romulan Star Empire. Warp 13 is kind of funny, they started using a TOS equivalent scale, maybe instead of Quantum slipstream, they developed Borg transwarp
@thefirstprimariscatosicari6870
Not a thing regarding the video but something I wanted to discuss. I always though that it would be cool if Galaxy and Sovereign classes had different specialized saucer sections that could bechanged depending on the situation. For example having a saucer section with the spinal mounted phaser cannon if you need superior fire power, a saucer section full of torpedo bays of you want a bigger Akira, a balanced battle saucer section with less crew quarters and no civilians for more powerful phaser arrays and maybe a few more torpedo bays, a deployable colony structure saucer section etcetera. What do you think?
@kevinshepardson1628
@kevinshepardson1628 5 лет назад
That is a seriously awesome idea. At the very least, a distinct "war-saucer" would be a solid idea, and the colony saucer is just plain brilliant. Then again, I might be a bit biased due to one of my fan-concept ships being extensively modular.
@thefirstprimariscatosicari6870

If done correctly you could build dozens of colony ships , once established the engineering section returns to the core world's, picks up a new saucer section and goes off again. It would make more sense to make it a hard point for the lance, assuming it is a swappable module. We subconsciously love the idea of these warships because most people subconsciously dislike Rodenberrys vision of a future pacifistic human race. It's against the grain of our survival instinct to see the whole of humanity at the mercy of militarily and technologically superior species. It's in the human DNA to conquer our surroundings, so the idea of a reality where we aren't dominant should bother us at a subconscious level, and to see a reality where we begin to fulfill our potential in these areas it's comforting, I believe. Also it just makes more sense, giving what we know about human nature. The idea that we could ever really outgrow our love for conflict, our need of it to evolve, or that we could defend ourselves from dangerous enemies with anything less than military might has always seemed very naive from my point of view.

The idea that humans must dominate everything is what's wrong with this world. It's why we're so abusive to other species and to each other. An evolved humanity _might_ be selfish and aggressive like Klingons, but an enlightened humanity would not. TNG is an interesting look at an enlightened humanity that can reasonably defend itself. They could have been extremely powerful without the spinal lance simply by defining the Enterprise as having the best phasors and shields, and whenever it worked for the story, they did. It was neat to see them be ludicrously overpowered for a moment, but it would have been as unsustainable and boring as having Data make all tactical decisions and run the entire ship by wifi.
@QuantumLeap83
@QuantumLeap83 5 лет назад
@@JB52520 Yeah fantasy/fiction can be a nice reprieve from reality. But even at that, I disagree with the assessment that the trek universe is a "what if" utopia that showcases human potential. If it were reality, I guarantee you there would be some seriously draconian measures in place to make sure the status quo is maintained. Human nature is just too varied to ensure that everyone would willingly think happy thoughts 24/7 without serious consequences if someone stepped out of line.
@koloth5139
@koloth5139 5 лет назад
Daniel Bonner Yes, and there are certainly characters throughout Star Trek that attempt to work along those very lines. However the leads like Picard are supposed to represent the ideal. While the more draconian characters are the flawed broken members of society. However keep in mind this is a post scarcity society. Humanity would live and act very differently in a world where the acquisition of wealth is no longer important. Ultimately the only resource that would matter in the 24th century is energy, everything else can be created with enough of it. And even that's not all that important when you can create it in the massive quantities we see. So how would humans act in such a world? I don't think they would be very much like us. We are not very much like our ancestors 300 years ago.
@killz0ne215
@killz0ne215 5 лет назад
Honestly I think it's as simple as, People like to see big things go BOOM! Call it compensating, but people like to see pure raw massive power. Why do people like to see supped up cars? Or like to see a massive aircraft carrier sail by? Why are nuclear weapons interesting and why is it fun to watch a volcano erupt? It could be because of the mixture of awe we get from feeling massively superior and extremely humbled by how insignificant we are at the same time. Plus, we just want to see our side just absolutely throttle and crush the opposition...
@tba113
@tba113 5 лет назад
I suspect the appreciation for the Galaxy X is due less to people wanting the Enterprise to be a mighty battleship (even though ship type designations like "escort", "heavy cruiser", and "dreadnaught" are clearly inspired by warships), and more because of how memorable an entrance the Galaxy X made. Not only did it save the day from an immediate threat, the Galaxy X was a demonstration of how the Federation's technologies had matured, and how those advancements allowed it to act decisively against a clear danger. It would have raised a lot more questions about how the future-Federation saw the universe if the Galaxy X had been around for more episodes, but its lack of in-universe analysis and screen time meant its limitations aren't as clear. The way _All_ _Good_ _Things_ used it, the ship's introduction was a sort of "unveiling-the-superhero" scene, where they get to show off their powers for the first time, stomp a bunch of bad guys, and look show-stoppingly amazing in the process.

The Federation territory is huge and they put a lot more effort into mapping it than the other powers giving them a strategic advantage. Starfleet ships being multi-purpose means each individual ship is weaker than the enemy's ships, except for heavy cruisers, but the also have a much bigger fleet. The Federation's enemies don't band together because they hate each other more than the Federation. Romulans trust no one. Cardassians think they are better than everyone else. Much like some of the other comments here, I think we love it because we're seeing the Federation finally realize that it needs more than quick wit and a silver tongue to maintain long-term survivability for its civilization. Complacency from peace time has always led it to near-losses in each war it's been involved in. The Borg threat spurred it to innovate new technology and designs, which they immediately abandoned the second they got lucky and managed to neutralize a single cube. It took the Dominion War and all its horrors to finally awaken their recognition for the need for greater military innovation and strategy. In the Picard series, we can see that this lesson is finally learned when Starfleet can afford to send hundreds of ships that are all apparently its top-tier battlecruisers to protect a single system that isn't even part of the Federation. This also reveals their ability to coordinate fleet movements and compositions has vastly improved, as in earlier series they were constantly mentioning that their ships were all too far apart and it would take too long to consolidate them during a crisis. TLDR: We like seeing the Federation stand as a living symbol of peace and exploration, but also armed to the teeth for the inevitable conflicts it winds up embroiled in.

The rest of the Admiralty told him "no, you have to have an office, just like everyone else of this rank," and he said, "Okay, but I get to design my own office." They agreed, and he proceeded to declare the bridge of the Enterprise D as his "office" and every time anybody argued with him, he got the engineering corps excited about a new toy to put onto it. Its Trek way of saying..."How you liking this apartment complex now?" Basically however, if you note, all these timelines are what if timelines, not what will. This would be a natural progression from a society that built the Defiant. If the Defiant went mainstream early on instead of the project being initially scrapped, the Galaxy class would have quickly become obsolete fire power wise, and would need an upgrade to remain a capital ship. The Galaxy X was the ultimate solution. Also, if I recall correctly, the Klingon's invaded and occupied the Romulan Empire in this timeline, hence no more treaty. Also, like you said, Warp 13 sounds like a revamped scale, possibly to include now transwarp speeds (actual transwarp, not enhanced warp drive as what we probably got from the Excelsior test).

I love this refit, for nothing more than the 3rd nacelle

There are several classes of ship that had a third nacelle added on. The Federation-Class for example was a Constitution with a third nacelle, and a fan-made Sovereign-X was a Sovereign with a third nacelle and I think the 'Warship Voyager' version of the Intrepid had one too. Basically, any Federation cruiser class can be turned into a warship if you add a third nacelle. Which in my own head is probably linked to a small warp core next to the main core that specifically powers weapons and shields and if necessary serves as a backup warp drive if the primary is disabled or if the ship loses a nacelle.

You had me at "captain's yacht".

It is easy. If you simply send all the civilians, childern and other civilian casualties of war and alien vivisection material waiting to happen, who have NO BUSSINESS ON EXPLORER OR WARSHIP, and use their quarters, and part (say half) of luxurious crew quarters for generators, to feed the new spinal canon, tentimes bigger than everything you had before, you end with a murderous beast. Instead of diplomatic yacht, wich also happens to be armed. And have to say, THIS is how the starfleet should build their ships. Maximal modularity, upgradability and possibility to swich from diplomatic lounge to gundeck in few days in a drydock. Almost all wars, in wich starfleet participated, started by hard hits to the unprepared starfleet ships, and those continued, until new ship types rolled out of docks, or until major wartime upgrade was given to most of ships in service.

Even though it was never seen but it was mentioned that in the 23rd century Starfleet apparently had a Dreadnaught class in service that looked like a Constitution Class Starship in appearance but the only difference that like the Galaxy X Class Dreadnaught this ship also had 3 warp nacelles but a difference in the design of the secondary hull compared to the Constitution Class Heavy Cruiser like the original Starship Enterprise NCC-1701.

Ever since I first saw the Galaxy-X I fell in love with it, eventually I want to get a T6 version on Star Trek Online. Just haven't motivated myself enough to invest in one of them. I do have the T5 version, which is a beauty to behold.

If I recall correctly, the Ent-D from this episode was meant to be retired and scrapped (implying that it was old and outdated). But Admiral Riker saved it by making it his personal flag ship, and having it get those refits. It's impressive to see an older ship that was meant from the junkyard (even with a refit) completely dominate a Negvhar class ship.

Given the record of Starfleet and ships.. I wouldn't be surprised if you still had some in active service

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. This class of ship is my absolute favorite in the entire franchise. No question. And I'll explain why. Because this ship absolutely kicked ass.

New ship designs were too far between back in the TNG era, so any and every new ship i saw, i was instantly drawn to. Such is the case with this ship as well. I instantly fell in love with it. Like i did with the Nebula and the Oberth (i saw the Oberth on TNG long before i saw it in Search for Spock)

Seeing the Enterprise D cut through a Klingon cruiser like a hot knife through butter was incredibly satisfying, but that's not the full appeal of this version of the ship. The Galaxy X "Trike" is, quite simply, a hot rod starship. It's kinda like equipping your car with a blower, spoiler, custom body kit, etc. It's almost as if Starfleet put Tom Paris in charge of the refit but stopped short of letting him include levers and knobs everywhere.

My absolute favorite ship. Why? Because it looks like a logical next step. It also reminds me of a DeLorean that got the back to the future upgrade. It just ads a notch of style.

I had actually head canoned the cloaking device as being due to Romulus being destroyed (a la Kelvin) which in this timeline results in the Star Empire dissolving thereby nullifying their treaties.

I've been working with this idea of a federation ship, that utalized that trick with the deflector dish, to make it a really over powered phaser, my idea involved the incorporation of 2-6 deflector dishes, 2 at the base of the nacelles, (on the Galaxy I picture them being perpendicular to the main deflector, and possibly smaller) then either 1 or 2 above and below the saucer section, and each one is capable of at the very least stripping the shields off of whatever it hits, if not destroying it, my thought was to pair a ship with these, with an Akira class, or a New Orleans class and justify them having so damn many torpedos

This and the Ambassador class are my favorite designs. The Galaxy-X vs the regular for much the reason you said: It is a warship. It is the pinnacle of what the Galaxy should have been, a return to the roots of Starfleet. Exploration and science, sure, but with ships that can defend the Federation not just explode.
