Plus price I don’t really care so much to compare because I personally got in to the game early when it was cheap. I actually personally paid more for Helldivers.
My uncle AL and myself loved this movie when it came out 1997 and would always chat and say why dont they make a game of it !!!!! Back then it was ps1 days but now its real Uncle AL its finally here !!! Wish you were here with us to play Rip we will make you proud on the front !
Actually, there was a first-person shooter released back in 2005, as well as a strategy game, that honestly didn't sit with me well when compared to something like starcraft.
Fun when it works, Bad when it dont work. Overall enjoyed it when i was playing it. Will wait for some more updates to sort out some of the issues i experienced.
When does it not work ? The only issue I have is when everyone is leaving the ship in the beginning or everyone spawning in it gets laggy and frames drop but that’s only for like 1-2 min . I’m assuming it’s just the optimization and the game I guess loads while and after you load in.
None of my friends wanna buy it nor have they seen the movie, but thank god it’s 16 players cuz that helps a lot with the camaraderie while playing with randoms
You ain't seen nothing until you've seen 2000 alien corpses littering the battlefield everywhere or left base through the alien horde to stick a grenade to a giant bug that's blasting the base with artillery from afar watching it explode then somehow making your way back to base safely its such a buzz
Ever since I was a boy of 9 in '97 I always want a game that catered to that film. 27 years later I get to live out my fantasy that is "starship troopers"
For real tho... I was having a blast with rooms filling up and objectives getting completed. Now most of the time the rooms are just guys shooting bugs until the hordes swallow us up
I love that they didn't mess it up. Don't get me wrong still some things to tidy up but overall the game is just fun an chaotic depending on the match 🎉
Going vanguard, running out of ammo, bringing the knife out and causing a absolute mountain of bug corpses around you till you pop out of the top of it like the heroic trooper you are is a incredible experience.
Im really enjoying the game, loved the movie when i was a kid and so happy it got made into an actual game. Cant wait to see where they take it in the future. Just wish we got the actual soundtrack from the movie playing when in horde mode. That would of been a nice touch since they have access to the license
I can see the potential here for something great. That build your base mode looks really interesting, and I really like how corpses persist and can be blown around or climbed on. That really adds to it just looking like the movies and an absolute warzone. Its a good bit of video gamey feedback you're impacting the world. If they make it easier to get into games with others, fix the performance, bugs, and touch up the base building/economy I think it could really be a very good game. Its not there yet though... For performance, just some thoughts - Maybe they could have corpses have lower polygons once killed? Cap their movement to 30FPS after death if moved and use simplified physics? Just having fun with ideas. I really hope they keep the corpses. The game really stands out as unique after you wipe a large horde. Has to be a way to make it run better.
Offworld devs had an hour-long talk at Unreal Fest in Seattle, about the system that handles all these dead bugs bodies, with all the technical nitty gritty details. Give it a watch.

Yup, my game crashed in 3 consecutive matches at extraction last night. Needs fixing and additional weapons etc and additional modes perhaps. Lots of jank and consistent stutters. Plus side, its alot of fun when it works right. I hope they fix it and make it a nice fluid experience with more unlockable content not behind dlc
It'll be good when it is finished, maybe? So much potential. I really enjoyed the Squad Starship Troopers mod, it had a lot going for it - hope this can pick up that torch eventually :D
The game is very cool. The only thing that worries me is its life, today at 15:00 I entered the game and it was not finding people to play after 40 seconds, it only found the nest destruction mode. The game is not advertised, to this errors , the game hangs/freezes and you have to restart, it often revokes my character. Let's hope they give updates quickly . Unless like this franchise , it will die after half a year like Evil Dead.
I must have my graphics settings too low because I never got any blood splashback on my screen. On my guns yeah but not screen. My biggest issue is being server dropped 90% of the time.
I enjoy the game, it offers alot of content and some original designs from the film. Its also cool for casper van dian voiced his character in the game. Helldivers fans needed to grow up and let this game shine
The best version of this game might be the Xbox one, I’ve seen gameplay from every console and pc and the Xbox one (has its flaws too) but it works the best.

It tries to make Starship Troopers into a power fantasy FPS with fast paced combat, when in reality, if we were playing as mobile infantry troopers instead of Marauders, it'd be cinematically tragic in how much we watch our dudes get ripped to pieces, Dead Space style, by these humongous arachnids. It's part of why Helldivers 2 is so successful as a homage to SST. It captures that feeling of being overwhelmed... of having no plot armour. If you didn't get pwned in that game sometimes, it'd just be your generic horde shooter. There is a HORROR element to this that can not be ignored, like this game is doing. In my mind, a perfect SST game would feel like playing Helldivers 2 but as a GTA online character with no lock on. MOST of the gameplay needs to be standing in a line with like a dozen other troopers, or more - dumping mag after mag out of an oversized, overpowered assault rifle, into incoming crowds of giant bugs, and when / if they get close and overwhelm you, it becomes absolutely violent and hopeless and chaotic. To have that experience and be fun, players who are dead need to have something fun to do. Spectator mode needs to have a great Starship Troopers live news screen filter with free cam spectating, player POV cams, and - news team cams. In every game, a news team is controlled by players. There is an anchor who holds a microphone and can either press buttons to say things relevant to the mission and the situation, or plug in a mic and speak them themselves. Another player is the camera man, and everything this player records is saved as a replay that can be watched by everyone at any time. If the camera man dies, the camera is dropped but still records. Dead players can watch through the camera as well. So some recordings of missions would have the anchor team get completely destroyed with the last couple of minutes of the game being recorded from a cracked camera on the ground. Just like the movie. If THIS game wanted to improve, I'd say animate the trooper deaths. When you die, it's janky and irritating. It needs to be epic, with you being stabbed, lifted into the air and stabbed multiple times like a Dead Space death animation. But maybe it can be interrupted by other players blasting on the bug and breaking the things stabbing you. The one thing that is missing from this game is how dangerous the bugs feel. They're just cannon fodder for the most part and when you die it's like dying in UT1999
It's a great game. The bugs I experienced all weekend where falling through the ground, loss of HUD, all functions lost until I respawned. Not terrible but not great. All issues are able to played through. Even when getting swarmed, frame rate was good. Anyone else experienced sudden game kicks? As the server dropped the game? Ot just may be my ping rate (showing my gaming age, started on BF 1942 on PC in the early 2000)
Indeed, I have had a couple server drops myself. Long ass games and than "POP" all gone. I'll wait until there are more patches until I get back to into it.
@@kevynhansyn2902 yeah. I was in a horde match and making my way to the extraction and BAM, start screen. Not terrible, just frustrating. Overall, a blast of a game.
never underestimate the ability of OWI to meticulously craft the most cluncky and un-user friendly experience for their playerbase, while at the same time providing the bare minimum amount of fun necessary to invest those players into the game. clearly we need ICO here to fix this.
Wicked fun game, I really enjoy it. That said, it's not worth $50usd. Haven't had an issue with the servers at night in the US, but tried playing in the morning and it was next to impossible. Have had a couple obnoxious crashes where I've played 3/4 through a match and the game crashes so you lose all the progress from that match. Fun game, has potential, but costs way more than it's worth in it's current state. Hope they fix it.
if anyone is having issues with crashing, i changed my graphics from performance to quality on xbox series x and my game wouldnt stop crashing until i set the graphics back to performance, for some reason lol

The only issue I have is the constant disconnections I have experienced, causing a loss of interest as it will happen mid or end game resulting in me losing my exp for my character and weapons. I’m level 60ish and could be further if I hadn’t basically wasted time for no progression. I am on a console but it’s a Xbox X and I feel like I’d have better luck playing a Bethesda game with the amount of game crashes that I get.
Game has always had issues with optimization and bugs. I'm very unimpressed they released it in this state without 6 months of nothing BUT fixing bugs. It's simply not ready. It's still in early access functionally. There's actually a super solid game in there though. Though I'm always stuck at 40 fps or so, I've never had a match that wasn't enjoyable.

Looks like it needs more optimisations. The flame thrower should inspire terror in the bugs so they ease off just charging you through the flames, at least the normal bugs but the tiger bug can ignore it. In fact the presence of the tiger bug should act as a kind of commissar unit that rallies the bugs to do suicidal charges.
The shadows are way too dark on Xbox I played on steam all last year but for some reason I can’t see anything in the shadows even worse in day maps because you don’t have a flashlight borderline unplayable if RNG is bad on base location please fix it
I can't believe they are charging $50 for what is really just a squad DLC. Should have been about $15 as a paid DLC to squad. If they had done that, imagine the player base they could have had for both squad and this game. Same for all the other squad spin offs, should have made them all paid DLC's.
Love how even on high hardware the game barely fucking animates the bugs moving. the stuttering and popping in and out of existence due to lag is so annoying.
I love the concept of the game but im prob gonna wait another year ish, I can tell they wanna brew up something better so ill let them. Right now just seems a little dated.
Great game imo but it's already dying with rooms hard to fill up and objectives never get completed, pretty hard to win a game with how it is right now sucks cuz I'm a sucker for horde games and I really want this to do well but I'm thinking the lifespane for this game won't be as long or strong as I want/ thought it would be. I refunded the game in hopes of soon it will be ported to gamepass.
I really wanted to like it but all the flaws just made me refund the game after 2 hours. I'm from Germany and a lot of Texts aren't translated, or have spelling mistakes. I get the game when it is on sale. 😅
Desperately needs Private Lobbies or to be able to Kick toxic players. Recently had squad members who who purposely destroyed the base walls and defenses. Then they would fly to another part of the map and build all the ammo supplies for themselves, leaving the entire squad defenseless. It's a horrible experience, especially since if we kill them, we get branded as a Traitor. The logic is very flawed and they really didn't anticipate a toxic or solo community in their game, but if they wanna play by themselves, give them a private lobby option, or so we can all kick the toxic players as a group agreement.
I refunded after an hour of playing. Tired of buying unfinished games. I love starship troopers but until they add an FOV SLIDER AND FIX LAG issues then I will buy it and play it.
It was fun day one but dunno how long they can keep a 16 player co op game running when only 4 people are playing in a room. Think they should have released this one at like 20 bucks or even better free. The state of the game is fine it's just got too much competition to be just an ok game. Coming out at 50 bones wasn't a great idea also
Was trying to figure how you played on Boreas. I keep getting X-11 and Agni Prime. Shame, you have to create company to play Boreas. Should be in main map lobby.
GONNA SOUND WEIRD, but this game would be far better off if they focused more on capturing realism. To many physics breaking stuff, i don't mean that to every detail. But. - Mininukes don't kill/ damage/ destroy troopers and base structures. ( when it bloody well should ) - AI for the bugs is probably just one AI controlling all arachnids, that is made to target the Arc/ HQ. knows where players are at all times and selects them for targeting. So as a player you can't actually hide from the line of sight and enemies that have never spotted you can target you or go after you. - Troopers are vulnerable but not vulnerable enough... Moving as a squad or platoon on open ground when a horde of arachnids approaches should be scary and your team will only survive if they actually stick together and work as a unit, but the chaos of these so called team games, still often is every man for himself. Like Hive hunt modes... You would never send just four guys down a tunnel complex that's filled with hundreds of hostiles and expect them to clean house... Again, the mini-nukes you place at the hives go off and don't damage troopers, which makes for some crapy, nonsensical, and chaotic gameplay... - BASE building still hasn't capitilized on the RTS aspect of having special buildings, upgrade options. ( fireproof walls or bunkers. a medical center in your base should be necessary, so troopers can only heal to 100% at the medical facility. That means medics can't heal troopers to 100% HP out in the field. (75% heals to 100%) (70% heals to 90%) (65% to 80%)(60 to 75%) (55% to 65%) (50% to 60%) and than once below 50% the medic will never be able to heal a trooper to 50% again. so ( 45% heals to 50% ) (40% heals to 45% ) and so on. That means troopers our in the field take PERMANENT damage and can only be healed to 100% in a medical facility in the base... - BASE building happens to fast and not everyone should be able to do it... It would be better if every structure has to be gathered at the HQ, or summoned down, lifted/ picked up by 2-4 troopers and then carry to where they want that structure so they then have to assemble it together... This means no Build tool. We can still have ore and mining resources, but instead of them being spent on the base construction, we'd have mining missions where the purpose of the mission is to collect vast amounts of ore and defend it until it all can get shipped off. - A great example of lore breaking stuff is the building tool, because it can do anything, and AAS, which deployes indestructible bunkers the bugs can't destroy. And retrieval boats that can't be destroyed. if the federation had technology like the building tool or indestructible bunkers, we'd be seeing indestructible bases and the arachnids would be surrendering in this war The game does deliver some great action scenes that do SST justice, but a lot of it is still breaking the rules. It feels more like a simulated universe within the SST universe, like bootcamp or simulated training stuff. =p
I know I'm gonna get flak for saying this... But does this look like 1st person helldivers to anybody else? I wasn't even aware of this games existence until now.
I do understand that Helldivers took heavy inspiration from this franchise and by no is "1st person helldivers" a bad thing in any way or meant to denote this game as its own experience.
Yeah it would be great if it came in 2012 because it looks like a ps3 title, especially the fire textures. If you want good starship troopers inspired game try helldivers 2 looks 1000 times better and it's not as boring as this. It's mostly because in starship troopers when we have 16 players i feel like I'm doing nothing when in 4 player teams in helldivers I'm feeling like I'm actually doing something
