Starship Troopers: Terran Ascendancy (2000) - PC Gameplay / Win 10 

The formation i usually used was defensive circle for most of the travelling and crescent if i was going after the bug hole.

AI back then was actually emphasized on much more. Take Half-Life 1's cockroaches. If you put light on them (flashlight or whatever) they escape to darker areas. If there's blood on floor and body parts etc, the cockroaches move to it.

True but every bughole has a finite number of bugs and every trooper has a limited ammo supply.

@@Ellerion2, you have to wait for each bug to come out; when your team runs out of ammo, you go and replenish, then return to the bug hole, kill the remaining bugs and only at the very end destroy the bug hole.

The first mission where you encounter chamaleons I think its the first time you get a Brain dedicated to send kill squads to Your party, from that mission on you can farm bugholes, because they are endless, i used to spend hours there to level up everyone in a single mission, just bring a lot of flame throwers and heavy light cannons because those weapons use few ammo and carry a lot of it, so they are very efficient, the rotate tiny squads to replenish ammo near a depot. that was my trick

@@CliffuckingBooth Funny, the trailer for that is what brought me to look this up. Looks interesting, but its a shame your troopers just stand like potted plants and lets themselves get shredded by bugs. What really impressed me about this game was how your troopers would backpedal and move out of the way as the bugs got closer; AI units with some sort of intelligence was basically unheard of in 2000 and still pretty much is now. Another impressive thing for the time, which isn't demonstrated in this video, was how you could set their combat doctrine to hold formation and the troopers would move in a tight formation instead of the usual chaotic gaggle.

@@CynicalOldDwarf I know all about the formations and stuff, I played TA many times. I even have few videos on my channel from my gameplay. I believe Terran Command will have the same commands since its a spiritual successor to the Terran Ascendancy. You can't judge from the trailer that contains alpha gameplay. Besides in TC there will be MUCH more bugs attacking at once. Backpedaling is nice when there are 2-3 bugs attacking you like in TA but not against the swarm like in Terran Command. But we'll see.

the lag from this game was crazy. I only didnt finish the game because my computer froze up in the later levels because of so many bugs on the screen

you can bro, its abandonware, google it "starshiptroopers terran ascendency abandonware" its free and legal cause the entities involved dissolved themself and let the rights go to waste (such a sad thing for a wonderfull game, ill sell blood and other stuff to buy a remake of this game even for 120$) one of my favorite games ever, the controls were so advanced, the only game where the damn soldiers can actually be controlled to do WHAT YOU NEED THEM TO! need to kill a evasive hoopper? do a square selection with the bazooka firing mode, and it will target whatever was inside of the square MIND BLOWN for that time! remember that was like more than 20 years ago

The phrase "I'm out, switching to pistol" is burned into my brain. As well as "bug hole sighted", of course.

Im going to replay it soon as well, along with the fps one to shorten the waiting for the Terrran Command :)

so far though no indication if you get the powered armor suits in terran command like in terran ascendancy, which is a bit concerning... that was the one part that this game got right that the movie didn't. and unlike this game, terran command is more akin to typical RTS, where your troops are basically expendables. They got some minor levelling akin to Company of Heroes, but it's still at the end of the day basically an RTS... you throw units at stuff, they might die or what, and that doesn't matter because in the next mission you start from scratch. Terran Ascendancy is different and more akin to a real time tactical game, and your troops stay with you levelling up, and this is crucial as this is how they gain access to the extremely powerful power suits available to you later on, you do not want to lose troops in Terran Ascendancy if you can help it especially if they are veterans with access to power suits.

They made some kind of remake in 2022... tha'ts why I searched for this. I also played this one. The remake is in the steam platform

@@dashawnbonnett5847 you could only modify weapon and infantry stats, it's all stored in files you can edit in Notepad

@@FirstPlaysHD I'm hoping you're still around for this, but I have to ask: did your menu text dissappear, too? Your install looks... somehow better than mine, hoping to figure out the trick. I notice the text appearing in your load screen and the full-resolution main menu, but no Voodoo watermark, which I can't get mine to play along with.

I too am curious about a proper installation because my troopers are running around like crazy squirrels on red bull
