I played this at a college party where half the people probably hadn’t even heard it before, by the middle of the song over 50 people were shouting we built this city on rock n roll. Honestly a top 10 moment in my life
I am stunned! I was at this concert!!! I had no idea it was on the internet!!! I staggered south from the Plaza Hotel where I was staying and MTV was broadcasting. I was wayyyyy wasted and wandered into this arena where Mister Mister was playing 'Broken Wings.' I was like...whoa...Mister Mister. Then I'm not sure how but I was in the front row on the right. Some old looser geezer from the seventies was smoking pot and dancing with himself in front of me. And by 'old,' I mean like 32! That seemed old back then! A few minutes later some loudspeaker announced 'Starship!' I was like...are you fucking kidding me????? I remember Grace Slick coming out and I was just like 'Holy Shit!!!! That's Grace Slick!!!!!!!" I seriously just wandered into this shit. I've always been weirdly lucky that way, but damn! I had no idea that would happen or 40 years later it would be on the World Wide Interwebs!
@@davidgee2988 That made me LOL...Still I have a soft spot for this song. This is just the encapsulation of everything mid-80's, good and bad, but it's damn catchy and fun. There has to be a place for that.
@@ACEJONES I agree with you that this video definitely proves that analog sounds better. But just saying, for every tube in this video, there are at *least* 300 op-amps and 300 transistors in the signal path! Transistors forever, man
I‘m born in the 80‘s and always loved 80‘s music, I don’t like the 90‘s sound. 80‘s songs like this wonderful one are always full of a good feeling and beautiful memories to me 🤗.
it is now 2021 and I'm 15, the fact that the world to come to what is is now is unbelievable, I just want to live in the 80's when everything was okay.
Just seems that way. It’s perspective. Reagan was president. Things sucked then too. The Cold War, illegal wars in Central America, the threat of nuclear annihilation or meltdown. It’s all the way you look at it. You just gotta live your life no matter what’s going on in the world. There’s always been horrible things and wonderful things. To me, this is one of the horrible things in the 80s. Lol. That’s why I listened to punk rock, real rock n roll.
Well, she wasn't so cool when I was in the Army in Germany, late 70's, and Grace was too drunk too perform, and they canceled their show. She was a bad drunk and they kicked her out of the band. Years later she returned after finally sobering up in the mid 80's.. you missed that part of the time machine.
I graduated high school 1980. The 80's rock is still the music I listen to till this day! 80's music era will always be my choice. I haven't liked any music since the 80's,👍😝
I find it impressive that in the case of Starship, Grace Slick sang more of the lower harmonies while Mickey sang the higher ones. Not unheard of, but most people typically look at the female as the higher part
What’s wrong with a catchy beat, melody and great hooks? I like music that’s fun and sounds good I don’t care about street cred there are plenty of people that make “important” music that critics can listen to
They sound absolutely FANTASTIC live! What a cool comeback song this was for Starship! I just love this era and time period for the band! They were on fire! Knocking them out of the ballpark... hit after hit!
It's cool to hear them actually sing on this take, even though there is a backing track Grace's harmonies are on point as well as the rest of the band.
As a little kid this was one of my favorites to perform in front of my huge mirror with my tennis racket. Almost brings tears to my eyes. Good old tines man. Thanks for loading up!!
Eddie Holland well maybe his grandparents had his parents shortly before this and then they would go on to become teen parents themselves which means at the earliest I’d say he was born in 2003 like me
Man wish I was alive at this time. This culture/music was amazing. Nowadays we have the internet but the culture/music sucks. I’ve listened to mainstream and underground bands of all genres and the best of them are nothing compared to the 80s. There was just so much talent back then.
OMG! I had to have been there! Just cant remember! I wonder WHY! Lmao!! 😂🤣😅Back then you had Mickey- Jimi Jamison- Steve Perry -Peter Cetera & Lou Gramm! I was always in HEAVEN!
I forgot that MTV did Spring Break. It was the best times, and I really missed the MTV format. And Now, its ridiculous. Literally, that's all they show. 24/7. I also missed The Top Ten countdown.
I've discovered this song from Gta5, their voice is very close to the original version, and is not easy🔥🔥, They are good like Bobby Kimball from TOTO nice voices
