Your first row after picking up the stitches was 9 stitches, I was confused until I paused and counted what was on your needle. I'm only mentioning it, to maybe help other adventurous beginners. Thank you for showing us this beautiful technique ❤
You;re a really good teacher -- you remember what it's like to be a newbie at something, explaining all of the things that a newbie will have questions about. Teaching is something a lot of people are doing these days, but not many have the skills to do it well. I will be back-- thanks!
Thank you for that clear knitting-anatomy lesson. I’m a new knitter and I always prefer understanding what I’m doing rather than just following directions. This was a major light bulb, thank you!
You think of EVERYTHING! This video is TERRIFIC!! It has made all the didference in making my shawl look so much more polished!! I can’t thank you enough!! You are the best!,💕 Linda
Thank you very much for giving us all the modified start to the crescent shawl. This past week I have been working on tabless methods to avoid any hump below the center back neck. AND YOU HAVE NAILED IT. Thanks ever so much.
Thank you for this video Suzanne. I just bought a pattern and had no idea what to do. After seeing your video it all makes sense and I have to confidence to begin my shawl. Really appreciate your tutorial. Best wishes from Australia.
I learned to knit at age 7, from my paternal grandma. She was a sergeant. She wouldn’t let me knit on in my pattern until I could read my stitches to her. It was the best gift ever. My knitting life was so much easier my entire life. I was braver, could fix errors, and recognize mistakes early. I am so glad you encourage knitters to “read” their stitches. Love your videos.
Thank you of the middle of the France. I understand how to stich a crescent shawl. Your tuto is clear. My English is too bad to express how I am Glad. Viel DANK für das Tuto. Endlich verstehe ich.
I would just like to endorse what most of the people who have watched and commented have said and that is you are very clever at designing and teaching. (Also at technology). I am so pleased that you explained about the crescent shawl and the modifications. I am also so very grateful that I found your group on Facebook and all of your tutorials. You are an Angel but without wings. Thank you.
Hi Suzanne, I only just found this video and thank you. I have shied away from doing crescent shawls because I really don't like the beginning tabbed CO. This is such a wonderful method. I find it fascinating that many designers I see in Ravelry don't use this method. Go figure. This works great and have used it multiple times. Won't ever start a tabbed CO without it. Thanks again.
Game changing video for me. ThAnk you for the slower speed talk and knitting. Every detail of what you do and how to do it is so easy to see and replicate. You have a gift well beyond knitting
You've given me hope that I can still knit a shawl despite my growing memory problems, and I'm very grateful. I can't wait to try it! Thank you so very much!!!
what a great improvement, you're such a great teacher. Thanks for giving me the courage to try this, as i tossed my work many times with the garter tab. Thank you and greetings from the Netherlands
Thank you! I always appreciate finding a tutorial given by a Continental knitter like me. Depending on the stitch involved, it helps a lot when trying to determine finger placement. Thanks again! Thumbs up!
Hi Suzanne l love to watch your videos and listen to you. You are the best teacher for me. My english is not very good but l can understand every thing. Thank you so much. 😀 ❤️
I subscribed. What a wonderful shawl. Please show how to change colors. I do not want a single color shawl. Best tutorial I have ever seen on knitting. *****
I have a great video on changing colors in flat knitting, which you would use for a shawl, you can see it here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-05Xz9ja5kjc.html Happy Holidays.
Hi, Suzanne! I am thrilled! I watched your "modified garter stitch tab" video; you are a great teacher. Yesterday, I began my first crescent shawl, using your method. It is wonderful! As I might say, "Slicker than goose grease; the slickest thing there is." Thank you so much for sharing. You now have another devoted fan following you! Stay well & safe! pj stitches!
I would REALLY love to get the pattern you were working for this shawl. Might you know when I can find it? I know it's been a while, but figured it can't hurt to ask. Thank you for all your spectacular tutorials, you're an absolute wealth of information! All the best to you, Suzanne!
Awesome! Thanks! If you haven't subscribed to my channel yet, please do, and share my videos with your friends. There is lots more to come! Happy knitting.
Excellent tutorial!! I recently finished a crescent shaped shawl with fingering weight yarn that took quite a long time. So disappointed to see that center hump so pronounced. I think blocking made it worse. I also finally understand where and what kind of increases are used to create both crescent and triangle shaped shawls, thanks to this informative video. Seriously, thank you so much!!
You're always cxcellent, my dear! Although myself a knitting teacher I'm vory pleased to get some new ideas or new technics. You give them the best way I ever can like! Thank you! Be blessed! Yours, Conny L.
So amazing! Thank you so much for sharing. Your way looks much nicer. I will definitely be starting my cresent and triangle shawls this way from now on.
Yes! Yes! Yes! Your modified garter stitch tab is genius! I would've hated that lump of garter stitch blocking the horizontal flow of eyelets! So I'll definitely put this tip in my Knitting Toolbox for future use, and especially when I knit the full-size version of the beautiful Crescent Shawl! Thanks Suzanne! I appreciate Plan B.
Thank you for the tutorial. I do really appreciate all of the details provided in a comprehensive order. As a beginner I am also interested in knowing how I should finish it at the end when knitting the shawl is over... Many thanks
In the tutorial that this video goes with, I teach you how to finish it too. Lacework - A Skill Building Tutorial by Suzanne Bryan www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lacework---a-skill-building-tutorial
Hi, Suzanne. I just finished another shawl and wished I had this video before I started this one. But, no worries. I have tons of yarn to cast on another so I will definitely use this tutorial. Your version is so much prettier. Thanks so much for another great video. I have learned so much from you.

Hi Suzanne, thank you for this very clear tutorial. I've struggled with that dreaded hump when knitting shawlsLOL Your technique has set me on the right path. Thank you! Now I can knit garter tabs with ease and no more worry about that dreaded hump:)

Hi, Mrs Bryan, thanks for the video. I'm from Brazil and a beginner . Here, we don't have so much tutorial about knitting shawls, I don't know why. I love so much the tutorial about shawl and its lacy, it's gorgeous! But, unfortunately, I don't find too little pattern, video or tutorial in portuguese. I know a bit English language and still it is more difficult for me. I see you and I so much thankful. God bless you and yours hands!
This is the first time I've seen your RU-vid site. Your teaching skills are excellent! I really like the crescent shaped shawl and also the pattern that you used. Where can I find (or procure) the pattern for this stunning lacy shawl? Yes, I subscribed and can't wait for your next tutorial. Thank you for sharing your knitting knowledge.
Hi, Suzanne. I just ran across this video as I was trying to learn the garter tab. I'm a new knitter--45 years of crochet and 2 weeks of knitting. I love to make shawls so I'm thrilled to find your videos. Could you recommend a pattern for me? I have learned many things and am anxious to make something. I have all kinds of yarn in my stash with needles, so no limits there. Again, thanks so much. I really enjoy your teaching!!
