Those Aurora's in April would have been visible in NE Oregon as well, but we were socked in with clouds and rain. That's landscape photography, or as we say around here: "Sometimes you get the bear, sometimes the bear gets you." 🙂🐻🙂
It was great to listen to your thought processes and your attention to detail in this project. That interplay between artists and photographers which you mentioned early on is an intriguing subject in itself. We are often dealing with the same issues, but our different tools enable us to find different solutions. Fantastic work, Ian.
This video is absolutely top-notch... The attention to every detail for the zine and the effort every step of the way is incredible. I was planning to do something similar as a, "My First Year of Photography", and this is a fantastic resource for that project. Thanks for another awesome video!
Excellent! This video brought back "modernized" memories of when I was a graphic designer (~1981-1997). At that time what we called "DP" (desktop publishing) was just gaining a foothold. I transitioned from hand-made layouts to PageMaker, CorelDRAW and other software. I also worked in a few print shops, so I have memories of PMT cameras and press rooms fulls of whirring presses. Your description of the process is conceptually very similar to what it was then, but with much updated technologies. Anyway, what a great video. Be sure to send a copy of your zine to Ted Forbes (The Art of Photography) on RU-vid.
I started doing a photo year book from 2020 when we were in lockdown this then expanded to holidays getting quite a collection already! One of the best things I done for my photography. Did complete a year long project last year photographing local churches and had a book printed from that this year is water. Have ordered one of your Zines as it looks very much like the sort of thing I would like to challenge myself to in the future, you also live in an amazing part of the country we have just come back from our 2nd visit to Pembrokshire. Looking forward to getting my Zine
Part way through my first photography project with a plan for a zine at the end as a record, so it was great to watch your zine journey. Thanks for sharing your work and inspiration. Zine pre ordered 👍
Congratulations on the production of the zine …. It looks great. Thanks also for another excellent video …. You packed a lot in to 12 minutes. I agree that seeing your work in such a format (zine or book) is incredibly rewarding!
I recently made a zine composed of images from my classmates in our bw film class. The only zine orientation Blurb in Lightroom Classic offers is vertical. So I made the horizontal pictures spread over two pages, but unfortunately I didn't account for the "crack", so a good portion of those photos was kind of lost. I didn't realize the zine spine would be so stiff, it doesn't open easily. Maybe one has to break it in. Still, I'd recommend this to teachers, have your students create a publication with their work. It makes it more meaningful and I'm happy to have memories from my classmates work.
That sounds like an awesome project buddy. Yeah if you go over 2 pages you need to allow for the overlap, so split the image into 2 and add the depth of the spine to the inside edge of both images and add them to the design as separate photos this means that there shouldn't be any of the image lost when the book is opened. Its different with lay flat books though, which from my experience, you can just drop the image in as it is.
well done you, i have ordered my copy, its good to support other youtubers, i would love to create a book of my own.. but not sure i have what it takes to do it. Looks like a lot of time work and gear to get it right..
I’ve been following you for the past months and it’s fun to see how your videos evolves. I myself started a RU-vid channel 2 months ago and believe me I understand that what you do is very hard and I very appreciate the look and effort you put in what you do. If you only have one tips for making videos that you wish you knew when you started, what would it be? Thanks for your time and again, great video 👍👍😉
Thanks Daniel, The one tip i would give is to just keep making content that resonates with you and show your own personality in your videos. By doing this you will reach people that connect with you and that's the most important thing. keep it up buddy 👍👍
Hi Ian. Great video (as usual!). Do you consider selling it as an ebook? That would avoid shipping and duty costs. Thank you! Thanks for all those nice videos!
Looks good Ian and pre-ordered as interested to see the quality compared to an Ezine bought which was printed by Kozu books which disappointed me in their quality.
@ian_worth thanks Ian, iam in the market for one. Been tempted by the epson 8550, so always good to see what people are using to do their prints. I have thought about doing a zine as well, just for personal use . Iys a great way to look back at images that you have taken. 👍
This is amazing. A true photographer is all about landscape and nature and not about being on the streets and getting kids being injured, unlike Jordan Matter. He always put these people kicked out and got security on them, this is not content worth watching.
Hi I'm trying to preorder and the shipping to Poland is almost half the cost of the 20 pound book, is this normal? Is there a discount code somewhere, it's mentioned on the payment. Cheers!
Thanks for taking an interest in my zine, It should come under European shipping to Poland which is £6.50 please let me know if you are having any problems 👍
