Very skilled skaters all. Zach is so graceful he could put book on his head and it would not fall off

Thank you for your feedback! What other hockey drills have you had good experience with?

TheiPlayhockey If you meant from this channel, the drills i can easily recall are the one for the spread eagle (in another vid with 3 skaters demonstrating), and the one with the little lateral hops over the stick "Edge Drills- Support and Gravity". And if you meant apart from this channel...that's gonna be either a tough choice or a long discussion ))... or if i say the first thing that came to mind, it's all the drills that force to keep the 2 feet on the ice..

it would be more helpful if you can show these moves in slow motion

Question. At the very beginning of the backward cross under start, why are the players facing perpendicular to the net? The puck carrier is coming at the D from in front of them, not from the boards. Wouldn’t they then have to begin by facing the offensive zone instead of the boards? If so, then they would have to waste a second aligning their bodies with the boards before even beginning the start. I agree that there is more power from the cross under start, but it would seem that you would have to face the boards initially, even as the oncoming puck carrier is almost in full flight. It would be like me having to take one step left to walk to the right. Please clarify. Great video. Thanks.

because thats how it works when you parallel park do you just turn the way you’re going?

if your back is facing the way you want to go you cannot turn your body to create power. think of your body like an elastic, they are twisting and building torque then using that motion to create power in there feet. much like a golfer driving a ball isnt with their shoulders and arms alone it starts at the feet and hips.

What I don't get is why the players are facing perpendicular to the oncoming action. There is no way that there will be enough time for the defenseman to turn and face the boards just for the sake of making that initial inside edge push. What happens during a realistic hockey situation where the defenseman are facing the opposing net and the opposing forwards come busting out of the zone with the puck? The defenders will be flat footed. Please explain in detail as obviously I'm missing something. Thank you.

During a realistic hockey situation you aren't facing the goal as a defenseman.

George Polasky this is generally after a power stop so the player would be perpendicular to the play. If the player was skating forwards in the same direction as the play, a pivot turn would be used. Otherwise, if the player is laying toward an oncoming play, the player would do a stop and quick cross under start or a quick forward to backward pivot and cross under (which has similar mechanics but does not begin from a stop.

You think we beginners can see anything from this. It’s too fast. Go ahead Zach. I look and he’s already coming back forwards 😂 To skaters and coaches yeah great video. Beginners not very useful.
