I randomly got 2 packs of Blast Ace when I went to a local store with some friends to get a pokemon pack for fun, they were out of stock and I thought why not just get 2 packs as a one off after looking at the card list and seeing digimon I recognised from Adventure. I pulled a SR Fenloogarmon and an Alt Art SR Palmon... Then I proceeded to buy an entire box of Exceed Apocalypse and now I'm ordered a box of Blast Ace. I have contacted my local games store and will be attending the weekly local event, I have watched countless videos and looked up past/future sets. I am hooked on digimon. I hope it grows and I can stay invested.
All Bandai has to do is announce a digital client for the game-not even surprise release it, just announce it-and that will practically double the player base then and there.
Not exactly. Digimon as a card game feels like it's in a shaky position given Bandai's abundant release of TCG right now. Releasing a Digital Client, though it would be fun, could lead to a drop in sales to the TCG itself at which point the client itself would have to pick up the slack which could lead to really bad microtransaction practices. However, if the digital client fails, it could basically lead to the outright cancelation of the Digimon card game due to poor sales. Many people have stated with Master Duel that Yugioh has a hard time getting players to go from MD players into Physical card game players. If one of the top 3 big TCG has trouble with that, a smaller card game like Digimon could have the same issue that can again lead to the end of Digimon. The best time to release a digital client would only be when the game itself is in a strong and healthy point economically so that the TCG isn't affected if things go south with the Client.
@@BlurryHeart15Take a page from the Pokemon TCG then? Have a code that you redeem in the client that you get from physical product for the same Booster (or equivalent) in the client. Could even throw in bonuses like cosmetics like playmats, etc. in stuff like the sidesets. Encourages people to keep buying physical product too.
@@BlurryHeart15 having online codes - similar to Magic and Pokémon - per pack would incentives buying physical packs and play the online version, alongside collecting/playing in the physical game.
I feel like more people would be willing to give it a try if there was an online client / simulator. Hoping that the project they teased for 2024 is exactly that. Fingers crossed!
It seems to me that the biggest reason digimon isn't growing/people are leaving is the poor support/hype at local shops. I know this isn't true everywhere, but I hear it a lot online where local support is dead and people quit not because they want to, but because they can't play with people irl anymore. That is the case for my locals sadly
Bandai is basically cannibalizing Digimon with One Piece and BSS. Add to that the fact there's still no official online client and you've got a game in jeopardy. I wish Bandai wouldn't treat Digimon like this.
I went to buy a box of blast ace at lgs, a week after release, and all the boxes were sold out. Not because of popularity, but because they had LOW quantity. My store also started irl events, but only for mtg commander, lorcana, OP, and Pokemon… despite this, I ain’t quitting this game
I kinda just wish it had an official simulator. My locals is pretty competative for literally every single card game so it is a very hard place to go to as a beginner haha.
Funnily I just started getting into the TCG a few days ago. I bought an adventure box with a little figure on Amazon. I mainly did it for the figure but I actually had fun opening the packs. Then I looked into it and the game looks so fun. I bought 10 starter decks (the first 6 just as collectibles and 4 to actually play with) and I can't wait to get my hands on them. Unfortunately here in Germany NOBODY plays the game so I'm probably only gonna play with myself 😂 or I find someone who wants to try out the starter decks just for the fun of it. I'm not looking to play competitive, I just wanna play for fun. I'm so desperate to play that I'm playing the tutorial app with the two newest started decks. It's really fun. Hope that it gets more players in.
Im from germany too and started collecting cards and building decks already. The game is totally unknown overall in germany because there was no huge marketing overall. Thats where friends and Digimon fans should come in and make themselves some buzz .
The big problem with it is that powercreep is pretty insane. They were staples more than a year ago. Greymon sec+1 is cool because Greymon will probably always have some room in the meta, but the majority of cards drop like two tiers in a single set release. I think it's much much healthier to accept that Digimon is a game where you need to buy the new stuff and spend a lot for the couple of old cards that are still relevant and take it one deck at a time, than wait for reprints for decks that will be worthless by the time they come.
@@fernandobanda5734 eh, it's not really that rough on the situation, actually. a lot of those decks still get built and there are a lot of players who wash up into the discord, talking about how they got their hands on the mastemon starter deck when trying the game out with their friends. Knowing that now RB1 is out in the states, they don't have to spend $15 a pop on magnaangemon(or $5-8 on T.K. for yellow deckss) helps a lot in increasing the quality of life for casual decks or players looking to get their first forays into the game. the more stuff I have to tell them to upgrade into later down the line, the easier the onboarding process is for us in the newbie support section of the community.
@@fernandobanda5734 I understand what you mean. It goes without saying that there are people out there that will always struggle getting the cards to either keep up with the meta or just to try out. Not everyone is financially stable to spend on top tier cards and have to settle for other options.
@@Shadowkyo13 I understand. And I think it's even more important to understand the situation when you don't have that much money to spend, so you can get reasonable expectations. Hunters (BT12) was a good cheap deck for its format, and I wish more people spent in that rather than, say, buying a format-old deck that was as expensive, or buying a Ragnalord starter and wanting to upgrade when there was nothing to upgrade to.
@@fernandobanda5734 True. I for one still enjoy ragnaloardmon because it's nothing more than a gamble and it's fun. Yeah I did wish it was more uptodate but for a deck to just have fun with it does what it does and that just fine for me.
I actually went and bought myself the Resurgent Booster that had the Red Memory Boost at the cover in my local Target and even went and bought the cards for the Chaosgallantmon deck I wanted to play! Been back into the Digimon mood after rewatching Tamers and playing Cybersleuth so definitely want to play at a local store! 😁
I stopped playing/collecting at around BT8. I still have my older decks of the original cocytus blue starter deck, the one year anniversary blue Veemon starter deck, and the Imperialdramon structure deck along with cards I got from packs but I just can't afford to keep buying new cards just to be able to play a card game competitively or even casually. I stopped playing Yugioh because of power creep and when the Digimon card game released I was happy because I thought that it was going to be different and wouldn't have that same power creep problem. Sadly I was wrong and I'm very disappointed. I think it's cool that Bandai is promoting formats to newer sets but I think they should have formats for older sets as well so that players who can't constantly buy the newest sets can still play at locals and tournaments. The thing that Bandai has done really well with the Digimon card game as opposed to Yugioh has been labeling sets from BT1 all way up to the newest sets which would make it really easy for them to create official formats for all of the sets from the original all the way up and that would get even more people playing their game and potentially buying the newer sets and trying out those formats. It would also be easy for the players to isolate cards from each set to use within their decks. The Digimon card game is fun to play but only when you're able to play around a similar power level which currently makes it almost impossible for someone like me with older cards from older sets to play with others and is ultimately the reason people will stop playing a card game. That's why I think they should try to have older formats alongside newer ones because it gets more players playing the game as opposed to just the people who can afford to buy the newest sets everytime they release. Hopefully Bandai will do something along these lines in the future but I don't have high hopes just based on my experience with Konami and Yugioh.
Unfortunately people playing with older cards aren't going to make them any money, unless they start reprinting older cards to make up for it for people who will be interested in those, like Konami is doing with Edison
i think i quit around bt8 as well, i have an armor veemon deck, but i only really quit because locals wouldn't host tournaments for it and none of my friends at the time wanted to try it. but if you're just playing casually with friends, there's no reason you can't just set house rules, no cards past a certain set, or only a certain % of newer cards so you can plug in some of the newer support for your older decks don't rely on the product maker to not want your money
@@GuilhermeDiGiorgiPeople playing with older cards means more people will be playing the game which also means newer players will be drawn to the game and more product is sold as a result so you are wrong. They could reprint older sets as well which means more options of what level of the card game you want to participate in. Not everyone wants to play at the top meta level all the time and this gives players more options and would more than likely be easier to introduce newer players to the original sets to learn the basics and then gradually learn the mechanics and cards that came after. More players involved in playing your card game will always be better than less players. If you only go after the small amount of hardcore players who will buy the new product no matter what while power creeping out the vast majority of casual players who might buy a set or a handful of packs here and there then they just stop playing the game and you let all that money walk off with those casual players and without the casual player base it's harder to get newer players interested in the game because the hardcore meta can be very overwhelming and there's less people playing the card game which means less exposure to the card game in general.
@@charlesf.7947That's all well and good if you have friends with decks around a similar power level but I don't have friends who play the game and the only way I'd be able to play would be to go to locals but even then casual play will be next to improbable unless people also happened to have casual decks of a similar power level unless you just like getting stomped by the newer sets.
The ultimate cup feels like a set rotation similar to MTG. The difference is that Digimon at least is cheaper than buying a whole standard deck for MTG. However I'm not sure how I'm going to feel about it because some of the sets that are released legit have update cards for other decks to provide support and if those aren't in the rotation set.. well they're not going to be doing a whole lot.
I couldn't agree more. Setting aside that I'm absurdly hyped for both DigiPolice and Loogamon deck in BT14, and my friends are interested in Gracenova, Leviamon and Leomon decks from the following sets. I've finally been able to pick up a ton of really useful old staples as someone who only started playing around BT9, and I'm still absolutely in love with how the game feels to play and how affordable good decks are, and the variety of options you have for viable competitive decks. I adore Yugioh, always have, and will always probably end up going back to it, but Digimon has EASILY become my "other" card game I play.
Sounds like a few builds I have in mind will be great for the Ultimate Cup format. I've got at least one Greymon build, plus I'm super excited for the upcoming GraceNovamon deck format.
I've been collecting rhe card game for years on and off lol. I've only donevtest hands as i don't know anyone who plays. Now im back and have a Diarbbittmon deck. Even got full rarity level 6s haha. I need to go to my first locals. The game seems so much fun. I've inly done test hands though lol. Gonna play it next week for first time. Wish we had online too.
I was about to get back in a few weeks ago. I was borrowing some decks, but now everyone at locals quit. I honestly wish the digimon game rules were under a different IP. I like digimon ok, but it sucks to see if the game goes. Bandai needs to just find a ruleset and keep all these games under one umbrella instead of having them cannibalize each other.
Digimon is a really nice game i just wish they would offer better tournament prizing and more in person events, also they focus heavily on one peace leaving digimon kinda behind
For a video titled "Start Playing Digimon Right Now", it's a bit strange that most of what you're talking about in this video appeals only to people who have already started playing.
Digimon ISS receiving powercreep. but I don't feell like the way the game is being played is changing and that's more important to me. as long as they release cards that feel in the spirit of the game I love and the cost to play isn't prohibitive, then I don't mind it.
Not gonna lie, mentally checked out when the reason to get back into it is that the meta is being powercrept further with new cards after going on a multi-minute rant about new powercrept sets. Personally tired of the cyclic trends of tcgs
Can't say too much because I am a casual player, but this tcg has been so fun (more than pokemon and yugioh) and I hope that it thrives. I understand digimon isn't a big name compared to its competition, but the game mechanics are fun and simple and I hope it gets better recognition
I love how many playable decks Digimon has. No they’re not all top tier, but if you have a favorite Digimon then there’s a really good chance they have a fun deck
I am interested in getting into digimon but, won't bt14 and ex05 powercreep new cards in resurgence booster? My big issue with digimon is that by the time tcgplayer singles are mailed to my door, the cards are halfway out of relevance because the next set will power creep them.
Unfortunately sub sets are always seemingly underpowered, or not allowed to stand out and shine. EX01 is a prime example of this, I think we had it for two weeks before a new primary set was out. Resurgence is sadly just a bunch of reprints, with a few new cards, and those new cards aren't very format impacting at the moment either. If you've ever played MTG, Resurgence Booster is kind of like a core set when those used to exist.
@@ravdeepbagri1313 It is indeed nice to have reprints.. but generally only when those reprints are actually in use. The vast majority of reprinted cards were useful several sets ago, but currently don't see much play except for maybe the Sec +1 Tai which definitely needed a reprint but could've just been reprinted in a more impactful set. I think the reprint set would've been much more well received about a year ago.
I'd really like if they made a digital version (it's in the name)! A game like the PS1 version, where you'd start with the very first decks and play against digimon with themed decks, getting new cards and boosters along the way. I'd put money on that.
I'd probably play the Digimon Card Game if Bandai released a Digimon card game on like the Nintendo Switch or somethin to play it on like how Konami released Yu-Gi-Oh! on handheld gaming systemss.
Don't have much of a competiotve scene here for Digimon, literally about a group of eight to ten who just show up and take over some unused tables when MTG night is happening done pretty casual and everyone borrow's my friend Chandler's decks often if they don't bring their own or just want to mix things up but the other day I did get to run Rookie Rush vs Hunters and I saw some of the power creep you speak of. Xros stuff in general is a littel baster but Bagra Hunters is just very good at predating literally anything I did with Rookie Rush if it wasn't just straight playing little guys who would then attempt to go through security and might get two but then get murdered on brackback or the Bagras would Xros to their boss and crack back so hard it wouldn't matter. It was worse with Anubismon but that was mostly cause I didn't understand what Gizmon was all about. XD Catching up in digimon does feel a little...tricky. Especially when all I want to do is play Armor Rush or Purperial (Pure Red DNA) and smash through things by turning stuff sideways. Though this might be the noob in me but one way thing that's obvious to me now that wasn't then is how Yugioh-like Diigmon has power crept it's removal effects are already more derverse than Yugioh was if we compare the set releases. Bottom Decking and De-Digivolving as well as just "freeze tapping' things in conjuction kinda ruins any aggro strategy and then tamers that gain memory when you remove the digimon? Oof. Not to be cruel to Xros but their saver features are most OP when they are combined with this sort of engine but I think it speaks to something hopeful when I can take Tai from older set and combine him with my DNA digivoling to make sure I check two security and if my Imperialdramon with angry coloring gets popped I at least get a chance to start over next turn. I like that about this game over others. Also just the fact of the opponent getting advantage doesn't always mean much if I regenerate my security or load it with traps to make them hesitate to smash through it. But I do think sadly like in MTG and Yugioh the more critters you focus on the more vulnerable and sad you become when there's something that just pops it. A great quandary of many games though.
Thats why i built machinedramon. Being able to build a massive, nearly indestructible robodragon that ignores the overwhelming amount of removal the game has while slowly grinding the opponent into dust is just my favorite thing in the game.
@@JohnDoe-zx1ck Does sound fun! Cyborgs certainly seem to have a lot of support too. Izzy since they're mostly black will ensure you're only bottom decking things just to refill the gauge and Kazu if you can remember him, I am terrible at this, will draw stuff and I know there's more depending on the Tama set and what rookies you want in the inheritables.
We've been lucky to see a small increase of new players. Got 6 new players recently since rb01 dropped. I just started going to locals since rb01 as well. It was a good way to start playing for sure.
I wanna play d brigade thiugh. Been thinking, but let's try out my Diarbbittmon deck I've been test running for so much. Watched so many videos of how to play for quite some time. I need to play 😂 And i came back because of resurgence. I remember those cards were too expensive
I've never really played in any tournaments, but my coworkers and play together all the time and would love to test new stuff when it comes out. As such, I never really thought power creep was too big of an issue until the Beelzemon deck came out. Although it was extremely demoralizing when my Phoenixmon completely ceased to perform in the very same set that it got new support in.
Powercreep has been pretty insane in some specific sets, not just with Beelzemon. At least the West gets to enjoy half the format (or sometimes almost all of it) more after the bans. As for decks being weak, that's also very disheartening. You can look at the cards and figure out in 5 minutes which are supposed to be the good decks and which are the bad decks, and it almost always holds true. Phoenixmon might get more of a chance in BT15 with its third set of support, with any luck.
Let's go!!!! More Digimon content! I've played Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh and Digimon is by far the best for me. Not too slow like pokemon, but also no paragraph long text cards and overextended turns like Yu-Gi-Oh.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one concerned about the powercreep in the game. I think things are moving way too fast since bt10. I'm fine with powercreep, but I think every new set is trying to top the last one.
I think it began even before than that. BT7 and BT10 were huge steps, and BT14 is another huge step. It's fun to play when you know that the meta is relentless and you're buying a deck for one season only. But it's heartbreaking to see people building decks late or waiting for reprints when I know they aren't gonna have the slightest chance of fun against the new meta.
I'm excited for bt14 but didn't know anything about the set other than there were cards in there that helped mastemon (the only deck i have). Digimon is always a card game i thought was really cool but the card shops around me dont really have a scene for it. Don't get me wrong they do hold tournaments but they're barely firing if they do at all. I've only played in tournament two times (I've been interested in the game since release) but I'd really like to play more. I hope digimon can get more players
I tried getting into the game about a year ago and went to a “new players” tournament with my son and out of the 12 players, only 3 of use were legit new players. Needless to say none of us 3 made the top half. It left a bad taste and haven’t touched my cards since.
Sorry that happened. A tournament like that is a perfect place to bring fun decks rather than competitive decks. Just to show new players how fun the game can be
That's terrible, sorry you had to go through that. If it's of any help, at most locals that host Digimon there are events called Tamer Parties that are specifically geared towards new players. Basically it's where more veteran players teach new players, even ones who don't know the rules, how to play the game, use their decks, etc. The players who are teaching receive promo cards for the help, so it's a win-win for both. Veteran players are also typically asked to bring weaker decks or to slow down their game for newcomers. Try to see if your local stores have these, as they're officially sponsored by Bandai. At my local the store owner always tells us to bring weaker/slower decks (and checks to see what we have personally) and to have simple decks we can lend to newcomers so they can learn, in case they don't have a deck yet. It's always great fun and I always bring decks that could never be competitively viable for myself.
I tried Digimon when the starter decks released. I just couldn't get my head around it. Same for MTG and Pokemon. I just stick with Edison in YGO nowadays.
He right cause when you miss this set your gonna regret it especially you wait to long. This set is base of the og season and amazing 🎨 that fan base will love and also new cards that some card player will love. Also pulsemon is getting support 😂
Power creep is inherent to all card games. Not just Digimon. If it's a gripe players have, then its just them being salty at the time. The REAL reason that digimon players leave is the localization of all things in the game besides Japan. From tournament support, prizing, and the fact that we're basically 2 to 3 sets behind Japan...Bandai makes it hard to play their game anywhere outside of Japan.
I wanted to! Since the beginning, I’ve always been a Digimon kid instead of a Pokémon kid. I have no one to play with in my small rural town so I’m waiting for an official online game so I can whale.
I feel like digimon was a pandemic fever dream. It came out at a time when we needed something to pass the time most and once we were out of the woods shiny brand new things like lorcana and one piece stole the spotlight. All logistics aside (prizing, power creep, accessibility at the beginning etc) it was sad to see the players and content creators drop like flies over the new games
If you want purple Garurumon, you are much better off buying the starter deck and then complementing it with singles, because most of the pieces it needs are in that starter. It will be much more expensive to buy singles in the case of Garuru. If you want blue Garurumon then there's no point in buying the starter deck.
I used to play digimon, I have a mastemon deck (the dna digivolution one). Is it still relevant at all? I have a rangaloardmon deck too. I also would like to build a chaosdramon x deck, I hope it doesn't suck. Not that I will compete or anything, just some casual matches with friends. I was getting wrecked by a justimon deck all the time though.
Mastemon is still played but it is a bit outclassed in the current meta because of the prevalence of faster decks that outpace it. Nonetheless you still regularly see the deck in tier lists. Also there is new support coming out for mastemon, as is the usual for older decks, so you have something to look forward to. Ragnaloard is sadly too inconsistent right now and most people don't play it. There is announced support for it though. Chaosdramon/machinedramon is very strong and can regularly trash certain match ups, plus it gets regular support due to using machine/cyborg digis, and it's even getting a new tamer in the future, so if you like that you're pretty set.
@@reeleh1791yeah chaosdramon X really gave it the final push it needed. It's not a tier 0 deck by any means but it's very strong once you establish the stack and it's super annoying to remove from the field because it can come back stronger. Its biggest weakness are wide boards (Bloomlord, Rosemon, Commandramon, that kind of stuff) but if you can set your analogmans you're good.
@@idle_sheepI would say its biggest weakness is that the protection isn't universal. If you face a blue bounce effect with Machinedra, or a Chaos Degrade or Arrester Superior, you just lose after all that hard work. Meanwhile, Brigadramon from BT14 is a regular evolution for standard cost that pumps out free Digimon every turn, gives blocker to everything and has pretty much infinite universal protection.
Depends on which starter deck you got i suppose. With the wargreymon starter deck, you have a few choices for decks you can build with parts from it, namely BlackWargreymon, Wargreymon, and Machinedramon, though all of those have cards from a bunch of different sets, so there is no one single box to go for to help with them. If you got the metalgarurumon deck, there are also a pile of decks that will use parts from that deck, though im not up on them so much. However, if you want to buy a single box of cards to build a deck out of I recommend getting a bot of Across Time. You will almost be certain to be able to build a Hunters deck from one box, though you will likely need to purchase a couple of singles to really polish it up, and of course buying singles is always cheaper. However, I have put the metalgarurumon ace card in that Hunters deck as a budget alternative to quartzmon to decent results. There is also a deck i have seen that mills itself and plays omnimon zwart to play both of the starter deck ace cards from the grave, but its a bit of a meme deck. Absolutely hilarious when it works though.
@@JohnDoe-zx1ck yeah I got the metal graymon ace deck ! I’ll probably see on getting across time it seems to have some solid additions from my quick glance. Thanks for the input! Might get the beelzemon deck even if that decks power crept by now he’s super cool.
I started playing right before bt10 dropped and I’ve seen quite a few decks since bt10 stay around and do pretty solid. I certainly find the power creep to not be too bad if I can still play a deck I made in bt10 and still do well
What BT10 deck is playable in BT13? The dominant decks were Xros Heart and Bloomlord, and they fell hard in BT12. Anything that wasn't dominant (Blue Flare, Knightmon, Bagra Army) stayed mediocre or worse despite the new support. BT13 and forward keep pushing on the same green suspend theme but that's less "BT10/EX3 Bloomlord is playable" and more "Rosemon hijacked the deck and THAT one is playable". It's not doing any favors to deny the blatant power creep.
@@fernandobanda5734power creep is real in all games. But your wrong blueflare is still good. Was then and still is now. If it was not it would not have won this past weekends regional and consistently been topping tournaments since its release. Bloom is also still good and still top tier. Not the best deck but it consistently tops.
@@CosmicDarkLord I'm a little uninformed about the BT13 meta specifically. Blue Flare might be better than I think because of its new (EX4) support. So, yeah, thanks for the correction. I still don't think most decks can be described as "still playable many formats later". And when a deck only has two sets of support, making it so that the new cards are half the deck, it's a bit of a cheat to say it's an old deck. Like, it's not uncommon for Digimon to bring "new support" for a deck but in reality be mostly new cards with maybe 1 or 2 old cards still there.
Ravemon appeared in EX3 and was a very mediocre deck. Then it got support in BT13 but was still a bad deck, and that's it. Now that we're in BT14, it must be like a tier 5. Sorry.
I don't think anyone plays Digimon at locals or near me. It's Yugioh, MTG and maybe Vanguard from what I seen (some other games I don't recognize too). If there was a free sim I'd be down to try it out before investing in paper. It be nice to play something else than Yugioh. It looks cool seeing it played but I don't understand what's going lol Lot of security checks?
I quit because of this. I made a deck. 1 set dropped after, deck stopped. Thought it was just me, kept playing till I was just losing, once I got the urge to buy more. I quit. I wanted to go back for the art, but honestly it looks like it hasn't gotten any better. Yugioh may take alot more skill, but I can the deck I want an still do okay. I hope they just fix digimon. Sucks.
Unfortunately, the owner of my LGS is trying to kill the digimon scene here by making ways for Lorcana. Which sucks because we only have 3 boxes of Bt14 and no other packs and The owner is intentionally not going to buy another case so My LGS will run out of packs by december 😢. I've been Hyped for BT14 for so long and now I won't be able to enjoy it. This sucks. Edit:My LGS Is the only Place that does Digi in my COUNTY. So It's not as easy as "Find Another Place" it's "Go to another Place that at least will take you 30 minutes-1 hour to get there"
Been playing since BT9. The game is great but I fear it is going to get crazy fast. Fangloramon's ability is nuts and his board swarming is toxic. But I am hype for my Commandramon deck to come back. I have been testing it on the online simulator and it playa super well.
There are tons of guides on youtube, even one from GoldenNovaYGO that is literally "Digimon TCG for Yugioh Players". If there are still questions left, I can help. I just don't want to copy paste all the rules in a comment.
