I used to raise angora rabbits for the wool. Their wool is plucked, the rabbit is not killed to harvest pelts. Next, I raised New Zealand, then Giant Chinchilla, next was mini rex, and now standard Rex & Lionhead. You get over the cuteness real fast when one rips your arm open and blood is gushing all over. I highly recommend using kevlar arm protectors when working with rabbits.
Like your Chanel and animal selection. Once we get our property (hoping with in 6 months to a year), I definitely want: -chickens (6-12 mainly for our eggs, 12 -24 for selling eggs - help cover cost, meat birds not sure), -honey bees (start with 2 or 3 hives and we will see), -rabbits (start with 2 to 4 does and 1 to 2 bucks for meat source and sell some to help cover cost). I am also looking at ducks (5 to 10 for eggs and meat) and quail (10 to 15 mainly for meat mainly).
Tommy Campbell I could always borrow the neighbor’s horse. Though it’s looking like some idiot might shoot it out from under my saddle for meat. I’ve been selling meat rabbit breeding trios like crazy over the last two weeks. People are seeing the rationing of meat and waking up. I’m investing in a good pair of hiking/work boots as I see everything being on foot in the near future. Best of luck, be safe.
I'm sure thankful that I'm into horses instead, they come when I call them and they don't burrow under the fence and disappear! On the other hand, rabbits sure are cute.
Your video was definitely informational this year on our homestead we are starting a rabbitry I look forward to starting a beehive soon with our uncle who's our neighbor I love the effort you put into this I hope we can keep in touch for more information
Thank you for the amazing info that you provide In your videos. I have 2 doe’s that are now kindling. But I’m definitely gonna try your methods next time , Starting from the amazing nest box ideas .
I've been checking out your site to buy rabbits. And by a fluke I type in starting a rabbit colony, and you pop up. I will be getting into contact with you guys soon.
Well done... I love my rabbits... It is easy to get out of control once you get going... Good quality meat... Beautiful pelts as well... They are cute it makes it hard to dispatch them for our first time we have a buddy to help us so we know what to do the right way... Thanks for this beautiful video
@@TheRabbitryCenter I love rabbits for the fact you can raise them indoors... Many people in apartments or small houses could raise rabbits and do some for pets but you could easily raise or farm meat rabbits... I almost dropped my price for a buddy but 20 is about what a rabbit would cost to raise so there's no way I can go under that... it's worth more to me than that so it was a good point you made that it's hard to raise your price after you already dropped it...
@@wildedibles819 Thanks for commenting. I agree rabbits can be raised almost anywhere. Yea I find it more satisfying to fill the freezer then under sell them. You can always give a rabbit meal away to your favorite friends and family as terrific gifts. Maybe save a little money at the same time. Happy Holidays to you.
@@TheRabbitryCenter yes great idea... We do plan on giving one away to the person helping us they liked that idea they wanted one anyway and we don't know what to do the first time... We have watched many videos but hands on experience would be great... I'm grateful that I have nice healthy happy rabbits... Thanks for your time
Wow, the list of products on your website is amazing. Thank you for compiling that list!! I hope you get your commission from those links. I wasn’t able to find your Amazon store front on my amazon app, tho, and I’ve found store fronts for other youtubers - not necessarily rabbit related. I’m going to try the pc case fan from solar idea since I’m in Fl and it’s been really hot this spring.
Hey thanks, I took a lot of time to find high quality rabbit products with good prices for my customers and subscribers. I really wanted to help folks get started and the pet and feed stores are very expensive. I make a little on from that page but the products are so cheap it's pennies on the dollar. You can't find it because it's a page I built on my website and not a store front. I need to make time to build a store front that generates my Rabbitry some extra income. I was supposed to have it done already but I've been occupied with other tasks. It doesn't help that I'm not a computer guy so every time I have to do something computer related I have to watch hours and hours of youtube videos. Hopefully I'll have it soon. Thank you for using those affiliate links. Every little bit helps.
Thanks very much for wealth of information about rearing rabbits . I am just a novice in rabbit farming I keep glued to your viruses. The big problem we have here in Cameroon is that one will hardly get a pure breed. So to get good results is not easy.
That's too bad I waited over a year checking weekly until I found the rabbits I wanted. Keep at it and maybe you'll find them. Be sure to watch this if you haven't already. It might help. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F3GyTnEmJb8.html
I've been researching rabbits for meat off and on for a bit and I never saw anyone have a NZ that wasn't just white. I was under the impression that they were only white and you had to cross them to get color...I was even thinking when I do my set up what would be a good cross to do...now I can see I wouldn't have to compromise. I'll be doing more research (: I'm in Iowa, not sure exactly how far from you guys but hey over there!
Well I'm glad you found the channel. I'd say about 8-9 hours give or take. Years ago we started with one solid red buck, 1 solid blue doe and 1 solid white doe. I enjoy all the different colors.
@@TheRabbitryCenter haha yeah I tooka. Check a hair over 6 hours from my town lol ! Well I'm really glad!! I enjoy seeing how different people do things the same or maybe even slightly different or completely! I like your point of view! Keep up the great work
Have you ever had to deal with fur mites? If so how did you treat a large group? Any recommendations??? I have 25 rabbits and I noticed one has mites ( he has malocclusion and has trouble grooming himself) but I’m afraid the rest may have them as well and I feel terrible
Yay I found somebody close that raises rabbits, I got my first beehive a year ago and that's awesome so I'm going to follow your advice and get rabbits oh, I have learning much learning to do and hutches to build but I have cages what's the best way to correspond with you, right now I have bees ,ducks and chickens so I reckon rabbits are next 😁
I use them too. I have metal cans for storage. I use them both. I have about 20 5-gal buckets on the property (2) big galvanized cans and one small can for black oil seeds. The chipmunks will chew through the buckets to get it.
@@TheRabbitryCenter yeah we keep our chicken feed in galvanized trashcan‘s there in the chicken house we don’t have chipmunks but we do have a lot of squirrels we use 5 gallon bucket too with the cattle feed just thought I’d mention it enjoyed your video
Hello, great information. I learned a lot from your videos. I have one question. How to find organic feed for the rabbits? I really having hard time finding any. Thanks.
Organic feed is hard to find and pricey. I'd get on social media and post your looking. Rabbit Facebook groups are a good resource. If you have the space You can grow from organic seed and dry and store for consumption at a later date. Pick up on Amazon or a seed elevator would be the best deal.
@@TheRabbitryCenter, Thank you so much for the FB groups tip. I will try that. I planted about 2000 sq. ft. of organic alfalfa seeds but it is not doing very will. God bless your business.
Oh, and several of the Amazon links, the products are no longer available (hide box and nail clippers to name two). If I chose another one, will you still get credit for the sale because I went to yours first?
Yes. That's so nice of you to ask. After following one of our links and you are in amazon then you can purchase whatever you like and we'll get credit for sending a paying customer to Amazon.
I have wild rabbit issues on our 160 acre irrigated farm and am thinking of turning lemons into lemonade. We are dedicated to organic methods and wonder if we can capture, fatten, and use the native bunnies for meat or fertilizer or both. Any advice?
I think that would be possible. Heck it's just like what the Romans did in Spain 200 BC. They caught and bred/farmed the native rabbits. I wish you luck with this I would think your cages would have to be pretty big. Reports have shown that wild rabbits die shortly after caginf them. So you may want to entertain a colony raising method with a secure pen. Good luck
@@TheRabbitryCenter I'm thinking the movable electric fence system and/or Rabbit tractor them with a one way gate/trap. Will see. Thanks for your reply.
I am a rabbit breeder from Sierra Leone but just a beginner with 4 Does and and 3 bucks. how can I get to multiply for more kittens before this year ends?
Stay tuned I’ll be launching a video shortly to show you exactly how to Build up your herd using only two bucks and two doe’s I’ll show you how to raise1000 pounds building up your four rabbits to 12 rabbits all within one year
That's cold! Start with Building a wind block for prevailing winds Enclose the rabbitry and run a heater to target 0°C Id recommend joining an Alaskan Facebook Rabbitry group (if possible)or at least reach out to some rabbitries in the area and see how they overcome that to prevent your bucks from going sterile. Best of luck.
Love yours videos. About to get our New Zealand rabbits this week to start breeding for meat. We are getting pens made I am wondering for location of pen. The place we were thinking is against the house, more light and afternoon shade. Should we wait to put this pen there until the fall? Or will it be okay with some fans on them?
I would find a full-time shady area. Try to put them in an area where the wind (your prevailing wind)is blocked for winter wind. I would avoid direct sun but go with fans in the shade. With their fur coat they’re gonna need it. www.amazon.com/shop/therabbitrycenter?listId=DBQZ4OW9WMRU Thanks for watching!
When I got my rabbits 2 months ago the seller told me they are Flemish Giant. They weigh anywhere from 15 to 18 pounds but don't look as big as the pictures I've Google. Im thinking are aren't Giants, is there a way to find out what breed they are?
How long do you leave the babies with the mother? And then how do you separate them out? Is it all rehoused together in one cage away from mum? Boy and girls in separate group cages? What's the routine?
Depending on the population of pests you may have trouble but you can always try to eradicate pests in your shed/Barn with traps- a galvanized will hold about 125 lbs (2.5 bags) of pellet. We started keeping all our pellet in the cans to prevent that.
How much trouble do you have with predators? Am wanting to build some runs, but am not sure what wire to use. We have snakes raccoons, possums and an occasional bobcat. Should I use chicken wire on the bottom of the run? I also want to try your cooling totes, can 2 rabbits share a run? Would they return to the right cage if they had access to only 1 run? Thank you for taking time to answer.
I've had raccoons bend the 2"x 4" cage wire trying to get in but can't. IF you have snakes than galvanized hardware cloth might be a better option. amzn.to/2Y8MoXo
Do you have wire on the bottom of your runs? We lost chickens to a fox that dug under the wire sides last year, firat time for that predator, and i am learning about each of the predators in our area.
Hi I’m new in your channel but I love rabbits I star raising rabbits for meat but the ones I have are straight mini Rex you thing there good for meat I live in Arizona let me know pls Maby I have to look for another breads maybe California buck and a new zillion doo? Or silver fox are better for meat production? Thank you
Hi love your videos the amazon store link from the website i don't think it's working i just tried to get there and see all products at once, one of my Doe's just had her 1st litter (with me) yesterday and i am sure she is lacking some minerals since she had 8 XD i am wondering which ones do you use, if you do.
We actually sell most of our rabbits but from time to time we get a chance to harvest due to bigger litters or sales being a little slow. Yes, they make great pets. I sound like a broken record but they're the best all around livestock to raise. They have great temperaments and aren't a burden. They don't bark at the neighbors or howl at the moon and are easy to manage because they're little sweeties. Easy to sell too due to all the different uses for rabbits. Pets for families, breeders for shows, Farmers for meat production. Rabbits are awesome. The New Zealand especially because they're on the big side but incredibly docile and are a hardy breed that stays healthy until it's time to sell or harvest. But yes they all have good temperments and make great pets but indoor rabbits need a rabbit proof area.

There's a lot of different kinds of hay out there but I just feed orchard hay. I have a farmer around the corner that sells me his orchard hay. I recommend you find a farmer if you haven't already and purchase your hay from them that way you don't over pay.
Hey Bobby I had a question I’m starting to breed rabbits and I’m doing it for a job kinda and I love them but still new! But I had a question I have a 3 year old Rex and I want to breed him but was wondering if I could breed him with a mini Rex or a mini lop? Or should I try to keep him with another Rex? And we are gonna breed our little ones when they get of age I’m pretty sure they are lion heads so I’m excited and pray our bunny’s come out that cute:)
Let me start by saying it's easy too get to big too quick so have a plan and stick to it. In most case its best to keep things pure for sales and customers. But crossing rabbit breeds is a blast and really makes things fun and exciting. You can give it a whirl and see what you come up with. I'd google the two and look at any internet picks of the cross. Please keep me posted on your Rabbitry. Rabbits are awesome. Please reach out if you need anything. Check this video out about crossbreeding if you haven't already. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MOVnF6jiYaY.html
Great Channel. I'm in the UK looking to start up. Is it true that you can alter the flavour of the meat, by what you feed the animal, a bit like people say corn fed chickens taste better. Is there any way to feed a rabbit to take away, the gamy flavour. Thanks.
Try harvesting at 12 weeks or younger this is the fryer stage which will be very tender. If your rabbit is older you may want to roast it or cook in the crockpot. Feeding a quality 16 percent protein pellet and hay daily is all you need to grow terrific tasting rabbits.
@@TheRabbitryCenter So difficult to find info in the uk about if its ok to raise rabbits for meat here. No one really does it, Rabbits are just seen as pets here. Every search i do just comes up with info for the U.S.
@@johnniebunton4978 Pickling is when you soak your rabbit hides/furs in a solution which helps you remove the membrane from the skin. Leaving you a nice leather to later stretch.
Not related to this video, but I see you live in a wooded area with water. How do you prevent predator attaches. I mean bear, wolves, large cats....ect?
We live in Bath, Michigan. We don't have wolves only coyotes. Coyotes around here stay away for the most part stay away. Our city only has a few sightings of a mountian lion roaming the woods every few years. Other than raccoons we don't have a lot predators. The raccoons are packed up around here. It's crazy. My trail cam caught what looked like a herd of raccoons walking in the woods. We have to lock our chickens up at night but the rabbits have never been bothered they just don't draw attention from the raccoons like the chickens do.

I just got into rabbits about a year ago. Very helpful videos. I noticed you said most people know that hot water freezes faster than cold. I guess I'm not most people haha. I found this interesting video about the topic in case you're interested: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SkH2iX0rx8U.html
It’s very much appreciated I try to respond to as many comments as humanly possible. With so many social platforms RU-vid, Facebook, Instagram, and now TickTock is taking off it’s pretty tough to catch a majority of them. Did you have a rabbit question?
It's actually backwards Rabbit is a terrific source of protein, lower in fat, sodium and cholesterol they are the most nutritious meat available. I think you're referring to protein poisoning which you would only become sick from if you did not eat any thing else that contained fat. This isn't the case when sitting down to a meal with sides.
Regardless if you choose a pet rabbit or a champion Breeder rabbit or your starting a meat production in the backyard, there’s no doubt Rabbits are a joy to have in anyone’s life.
