So you want to start ratting? Whats the basic kit you’ll need? What kit do always take with me to achieve the best possible results?

Another good video Robin enjoyable as I've come to expect. Those clips from Gunnery Sergeant Ermie are always 'appetizers' that pique my interest. ( like, what the heck's coming up now??) Nice to see the equipment used,..and then Wolverine's video,..that's the icing on the 'cup cake'....hahaha!

Thanks for the video, my pockets are quite shallow. Rifle is a Diana Stormrider pcp , it is regulated with 30 shots @ 835 fps- muzzle with 10.5 Crosman pellets but the 100cc tank is easy to pump to 220 bar, and yes a hand pump. Best sight night vision on a Vantage 4x12x50 with an upgraded 10 watt torch good to further than the gun is capable . Has done the job on 5 coyotes and a fox over a bait stand. 100s of rats. .177 is all about shot placement 👍🏻

Thanks for the informative video. Thoughts on 4k day/night scopes? I'm considering doing away with my optical because I shoot rabbits and rats- mostly at night and have a spare rifle, thinking it could be a great buy. It's a hefty investment though..

It’s brilliant for stuff on an air rifle up to 60 yards I’d say. I’m about to release a video showing exactly why it’s brilliant for pest control. Me and Mark went “day time ratting” but up the side of a kennels was the best ratting spot. A day scope couldn’t see. So with the click of a button I was in night mode and could take care of the job. The ease of zero and quality of image is brilliant. So, so far I’m loving it.

Another option to hold steady in lieu of shooting sticks is to tightly wrap your non-trigger arm through that shoulder sling. If you do it right, the wrap will pull from the front sling point and will be pulled back into your shoulder very tightly.

It doesn’t disturb them as much as white light. It give you a couple of seconds to make the shot.

just for skills sake..the brain of a rat is between his eye and his ear. a shot on straight line between those two points will give a good brain shot. The heart is behind the front leg muscle about 1/2 way or a little more down from the back. used to be an ATN fan.. but then I found PARD and learned my mistake.. We here in the US can use a semi-auto pcp's which makes it just a bit better in a target rich environment .. good hunting!

@@TeamFoxer it is an ok scope.. it has to many problems though.. freeze's and stops working at times.. you have to turn it off then on.. and sometimes turning it off can take time.. the internal battery can not be disconnected either.. cost is more weight and size is more.. But when it works right it is a great scope.. I think the PARD is better.. but that is just personal preference. I like less problems when I shoot.

Hi Foxy, sorry should have explained myself better but I thought the laws would be the same country wide. I'm shooting air rifles, .177 & .22 in Kent, where I live and Hampshire on my brother in laws farm. I'm shooting rats, rabbits, crovids, pigeons and a few squirrels. Many thanks for your advice.

I started airgunning rats and rabbit's, hunting with a HW35 with a 4x40 bushmaster scope and a deben tracer compact lamp........ I still have that set up ...couldn't part with it... I shot more with that,..than I do now.....now I have everything NV , thermal, fac...........

You make excellent videos. Thank you for this. I come from Germany, and it is absolutely forbidden to hunt Rats and Mice like you do. The Result of this stupid law is, that a big storage Room where I store my fishing stuff, was the new home of some asshole Rats. My new little neighbours destroyed the most of my unfortunately very expensive equipment, and I wasn't able to do anything. Only solution was very expensive Poison, which is only available for farmers. But happily, I have good Connections to some farmers. So, these Rats are dead now, but the damage is still there and no Insurance would be friendly and help me in this Situation. The only thing I want to say is that you are doing a great Job and I wish that this could be possible in Germany. And also Good Videos. Please forgive me my bad english I haven't used it for a long time.

G'day Robin, just wondering if you could help me with a recommendation on an IR light? I have a Pard nv008 lrf on my 243wssm that I use for foxing, the foxes in the area that I'm currently hunting are very cagey and hard to get within 100-200m the inbuilt ir that's in the Pard unit is OK but I'm looking to get further range, what would you recommend for an external IR torch? Hi Matt. I can highly recommend the PBIRL. It’ll let you spot way further than you can shoot. And illuminate the target very well out to 250/300 yards when you concentrate the been and zoom the scope in.

I have done a review of it at the beginning of one of my videos I’m within the last 6 months I think. Anyway it’s very good. It’s a very useful tool with plenty of uses for a good range or calibers.

Oh hi mate sorry. You don’t need any paper work as such. You’d be daft not to have some kind of public liability insurance in place. So other than that. Possibly written permission if you’re likely to encounter anybody that questions you being there. Other than that your good to go bud.

You have to apply to your police force for a Firearms License. Although you can buy the sub 12 foot pound model which will do this just perfectly well without a licence provided you are over the age of 18.

Some excellent advice for newcomers there Robin. I feel lucky to have both the nitesite viper and the Pard008lrf, it's like climbing a ladder, you have to start on the bottom rung then pull yourself up. As for the comments regarding the SHC, I really miss having the odd dialogue with Nick, but I'm sure there is a very good reason as to the channel stopping. You should have come out with this video years ago! This will become the standard. I have been following airgun ratting for years, since Cubley Cat and one guy before. I also watch another ratter, "Joseph Carter the Mink Man" on RU-vid. If you want to see someone decimate rats even faster than airgunners, watch his channel! He one time had a small rat run up his pant leg! Question: Do you wear high boots or something to keep the rats from going up your pant legs?

But how do you get the air into the rifle? Hand pump? Electric? Was disappointed you didn't cover that. All else was marvelous.

Pump or divers bottle. As shown in video!

That would depend on how much you are able to spend. The CHEAPEST method would be a springer rifle. But those rifles are very sensitive, especially on how you hold them. These have their own cons though, have to cock and reload after every shot, and your arm/shoulder will be sore after so many shots. Next you would have your PCP's, and their cons are the added expense for the fill methods. The rifles them selves will be quite a bit more expensive, AND you need some sort of fill method. A stirrup pump is the cheapest route... And it is completely doable for PCP. It will get you shooting for not too much money. If you get a tank, it is SO MUCH easier to refill your rifle, but at this point you have one of two options. You will need a local dive shop, and you will have to keep paying them to refill your tank every so often. Or you can purchase (they can get pricey) your own compressor to fill up your tank.

For some reason, I hate rats. My question is, can you use a co2 air rifle like the Diana Chaser to shoot rats? Does it have enough power?

I would suggest anything less than 10ftlbs of energy doesn’t have enough punch to do it effectively.
