The side stand can be adjusted to either auto-spring up, or not. Make sure you know which way yours is.

Very cool bike. Want to buy one of these one day especially since they aren't as pricey as their japanese or harley counterparts

More expensive then any mij offerings where I am.

@@Ryan-mc3mx for the extra $$ you pay for the BMW, you will have a bike that is incredibly well engineered and will go for 100,000 miles and more. They are easy to work on, not high strung, and the design is rider oriented as well as timeless.

As a long time owner of BMW motorcycles you should NEVER leave a running BMW on it’s side stand. As you pointed out the side stand is spring loaded and if the bike slightly moves forward it will fall over. I’ve seen it happen quite often. The center stand is the best way to go unless you are quite near by.

Learned that the hard way when my R90/6 tipped over in my alley at idle… on the plus side, I discovered my headlamp assembly was only held by 2 -3 retaining clips (when the fall caused it to pop off ) so I ordered the correct number !

Nice bike, sounds good too. Hello from Switzerland. Have a R 90/ S in my garage, with matching numbers. 1976. Are you from Germany or Netherlands? A little accent...

@@alexwilliams7112 Thank you for your message. I live in the " canton de Vaud ", " Vaud county". There are 26 cantons in Switzerland. Lausanne is the capital of this canton, but I live in a village. I' m a french speaking guy, like everybody in western Switzerland. Learned english at high school. The first sentence I' ve learned? " I see a bee"😂😂 A famous town in the Vaud county is Montreux. Heard about it? " We all came out to Montreux, on the Lake Geneva shoreline ".....and the chorus.... " Smooooke on the waaaater, fire in the sky"...

Just wondering why you have to start the bike in a vertical position ie off the side stand

you don't have to, I was just sitting on the bike for the demo. thanks!

For this model is first gear down, then, neutral, then all the others above?

Hi, looking to buy this model - how do you find the clutch operation heavy?
@alexwilliams7112
@alexwilliams7112 Год назад
I guess it depends on the condition. Mine was v smooth : ). Beautiful definitive mechanical feel. I had a 75/5 which was smoother still. Thank for looking : )
@zonoscopePictures
@zonoscopePictures Год назад
Look into the Airhead Beemer Club, there may be some guys near you who own these bikes, most well-maintained airheads have decent clutch operation, solid but not heavy. If it's too heavy, there's something wrong ( may be a worn throw out bearing in the trans? Others with more experience can chime in).

@@Crispndry63 im not sure! I was active in the “5united” ( /5 model owners) internet group . I know there are other forums for air cooled BMWs (but I can’t remember what they’re called, sorry) which may be a good place to start

The fuel taps are in the "reserve" position ?.
@alexwilliams7112
@alexwilliams7112 3 года назад
Hi Cliff! When the lever is horizontal fuel is off. When the lever (long end) is pointing/hanging down it is on, and when the lever (long end) is pointing/standing up, in is in reserve. "Pointing down, go down the road!", "Pointing up, fill 'er up!"
@arnaldostudio
@arnaldostudio 2 года назад
Alex, it’s actually the reverse. I thought it was this way at first too. It’s the longer lever side that point at your position. So lever up for on and down for reserve. Beautiful bike!
@zonoscopePictures
@zonoscopePictures Год назад
@@arnaldostudio I think your fuel taps may be different than the standard, or maybe were rebuilt and the positions switched? All the airhead BMWs I've had were "point down, down the road/point up, fill 'er up" like Alex says

Looks like he put the petcocks in the reserve position, not the on position.
@ArmenianLifewithMitch
@ArmenianLifewithMitch 7 месяцев назад
...yes, I think the same. Much as I remember, fuel tap down in vertical position, then all the way up for reserve. Never mind, he's ok so long as he doesn't run out of fuel! Beautiful bike and sounds just perfect. It was my dream bike when I was 17. As they used to say, "BMW the Rolls Royce of motorcycles"
