@@leerossemanuel8902 doesen't really matter but the shorter the hair the longer you will be in the "ugly stage". Your hair gonna look like small worms but like he said trust the process they will grow and fully lock
This is too true. I've been in the game for 4 years . I have high top locs that reach my collarbone. I remember when I couldn't wait to get that hang time. Now I'm just putting it up in styles to keep the hair out of my face when doing ordinary things or to keep them out of my mouth when I'm eating. I just did my girls locs and I can tell she is a little regretful. She wants them like mine and all I can do is encourage her and tell her to be patient . I tell her that her hair was much longer than mine when I started and that I didn't have anyone that's been in the game to guide me and retwist my hair. She won't make the same mistakes I made.
I just started my loc journey a few days ago .. I don't call it the ugly stage I LOVVVVEEEEEEE IT!!!!! IM ALREADY IN LOVE WITH MY HAIR!!!! 😍😍, I've already had a dream that I was talking to people about we as black people shouldn't be into the European Ways
@@unspkn4thz thank you.. actually I had to get them redone the first lady did them wrong 😡 but some of them were beading up so hopefully they'll start locking soon.. good luck to you
The thing that most of us didn't know going in is the amount of maintenance. This hairstyle is the most demanding of time than any other style I have had. The common misconception of locks is that they are neglected and dirty. I wish loctologists would share that with new clients. Not that I'd change anything.
Missed seeing these vids, locs look dope, great advice, thats facts on not wanting to shake your dreads when they longer, but im in that short phase rn so i cant wait😂👑
my hair was already long before i got dread locs i never liked locs but one i decided to get dreads i actually like them now im going in 5months now my dreads go past my mouth i dyed them blonde and i actually like them im glad i made that decision
I’m 5 months in now and I wish i did a bit more research when i was preparing to get my locks bc i didnt know what to tell my loctician when she asked what size and in the end she did “instant locs” and interlocked the rest of the way so its really lumpy and thicker than i wanted. I just hope it looks good when its mature.
I'm going tomorrow to get my starters and I'm MAAAAAD excited 😁. I initially want 2 strands but the stylist I'm going to recommended coils because my ends aren't that healthy. My biggest concern is honestly resisting the wash because I luv getting my hair wet 🤪. I religiously wash once a week and I know I'm gonna have to take that down some once I get loc'd up. Ideally I'd do a wash/retwist once a month because I had heard about the dangers of over twisting (which I'd luv yall feedback on).
I wrap my hair in satin and have two pillows with satin cases. It prevents my headwraps from slipping off and the exposed hair is still somewhat protected with the pillowcases.
@@WhereisYunoGasai honestly I’ve had my locs for a while now and I haven’t used castor oil so I can’t even speak from personal experience so far I think Tea tree peppermint lavender and eucalyptus are great and have worked for me
When I started my locs i didn’t retwist them for 2 months. But I Did wash my hair about 4 times in that time frame. The itching was too much 😂 but they’re budding like crazy now that I got a retwist
2 weeks into my lock journey i grew my hair for a year before twisting it up i have a soft texture hair so everyone keeps saying my hair wont lock but im determined to get dreads so im ready for this long journey 😂
Same here. The first year was rough for me. Had to learn my hair and get it healthy. It was dry, damaged, and felt like newspaper. Right now, it feels IMMACULATE!! I know I am going to miss this phase when I finally loc it, so I am wearing my fro out in all its glory as often as possible!
Thanks for this bro. I’ve been struggling with getting locs and keeping them because of my soft hair texture and me not being satisfied with the baby locs phase. Any tips on keeping them fresh with straight, soft hair?
To be honest I started with 2stand twist and I put water in my hair cuz it locs it faster and for washing i know it the right time when my scalp get mad itchy
I started my journey a month ago and I wash my hair with stocking cap on and always wear durag or bonnet to bed. They starting to bud already and I'm just enjoying this journey. I see in the comments about tea tree oil or castor oil, I use peppermint tea tree oil and man it stops the itching plus smells good..
@@187DREWDOGG you too brother but one more thing im a ps4 player and I like to chat with my friends on the mic. Will my headset ruin my starter locs because I only put it on over my durag
I havent had a cut in moths because of the vid, now i have a mini frow. A couple months or so and im getting locked up, my hair naturally naps up ALL THE TIME anyway. I could twist it now and it will stay as is lol
I wrap my hair and have a silk pillow case but I still got crazy dandruff even though I've already washed my hair twice. I'm tryna be patient cuz I decided to do em myself. This my third week. Should I switch my oil or wash my hair better?
The shorter you the start the better. Why? When you first start locs your hair focuses on filling in the loc making them thicker so when you don’t have that much hair to work with your going to get out of that quickly. I have some more advice i sent somebody else so ignore the 2 months thing below I see this is 2 months ago so listen up make sure for at least first 6 months don’t do any styles I know I know it’s tempting you want the curly dreads. But the more you get styles in the starter phase the more likely the will be skinny which can cause them to fall off and your not letting your hair breath. Also get a misting bottle put some water and some oils in there. Mist at least 2 times a day. The water helps hydrate your hair and the oils help keep them healthy i advise you to use water based products like jojoba oil rose water etc. and Ik you hear this a lot but BE PATIENT. And this is optional but get some hair sheen spray the olive oil is very good after you mist spray some on your hair. And since your 2 months in you could go a couple weeks before getting retwist but around the 4th month start going at least a month and once your at a year got a month and a half. Follow all these and I PROMISE YOU you’ll be straight.
Ok so I’m talking to someone about doing locs. They keep mentioning starter dreads. But I seen videos and I wanted to do instant locs. Are they the same thing? Like I was talking to the lady about the extensions but she said she didn’t have the tools to crotchet it into my hair in the videos it says you need a crotchet needle for instant locs. So if she don’t have the tools for crotch ring extensions would she have the tools for instant locs? Or should I do the starter locs? Anybody here LET ME KNOW😂😂😂
Starter locs and instant locs are technically the same thing but with starter locs you go through the natural process of it budding and locking when you do instant locs 9/10 they are going to use a croshay needle so it locs up faster but instant locs sometimes doesn’t give you that natural loc look
@@KINGDOMKONCEPT No she used gel.. don't really now what kind of gel she used, but I got them re-twisted Friday and she told me that they are doing what they are suppose to be doing, bc I asked if they were locing in the back
@@kahlilasinkfield6765 She wasn’t telling you the truth... Gel should not leave your hair sticky, whatever she used is leaving a residue in your hair which can result in a major build up. Wax is famous for doing that, that’s why I asked if they’d used wax.. There’s even a chance that when she washed your hair she didn’t completely rinse out the shampoo, that can leave a sticky residue as well. Whatever she’s doing something isn’t right. I wouldn’t take the word of someone who says everything is fine when you have to go on RU-vid and to ask is something supposed to be something or not.. I wouldn’t even go back to her period.. I don’t know if she’s a friend or you’re paying her to take care of your hair and if that be the case of course she’s going to say everything is cool because she wants your money.. I’ve had my hair for a year and I’ve used multiple gels to retwist my hair, some made my hair flake some made it itch but I have never had my hair to be left sticky. Anyway I hope that everything works out for you.
@@MrTaeLove also and this is next level shit but hold your sexual energy I got my's on the 30th been growing my hair for 3 years the fro length was to my jawline now it's to my cheek bone dued to shrinkage but I know through semen retention and drinking a gallon of water everyday the length will come within time💯
