In the US these were called Mazda Protégé. They always lasted a good long time and I used to see them driving around falling to pieces but still running, I still see them every once in awhile. Great cars!
I still drive one! Bought it back in 2012. 1.6 liter engine. It is a 2003 one and it has 124000miles on the clock which in my opinion is very low miles Cuz my 1999 Dodge RAM cummins has 268000 miles on. Anyways it still is a good one and by the way its a stick shift.
Most cars on this channel start after years without problem. Here is tragedy; they must replace and repair many parts. Mazda actually was always a shit
I've had the same one, sold it for pennies in 2015 after owning it for 3 years. I wish I could rebuy it in the same shape I sold it 7 years ago. My first car. 323 1.3 BG, sedan similar to this in the video, same red. Good old times, the car just lasted me so long even after 300k and never had issues with it, even though I was hammering it and throwing into corners like a mad man. I had one story with it loosing exaust while on the road back to home, lol, me and my buddy had to stuck toilet paper to our ears because it was that loud, good old times.
I’ve seen this video with the same type of car but a wagon in africa with 2 million kilometers: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mmh5SL7qQ-I.html
I drove one of these and put over 230,000 miles and put one timing belt on it. Anywhere I went in that thing was 70 or 80 mph. Transmission gave out, and that was the end. If I could find another one, I would purchase it in a heartbeat. It had a sunroof to.
It is my favorite car! I currently have a 323 year 1993 LX and I do not change it for anything ... I have had more than 10 mazda 323s and I have always had the best results for daily and family use (although it is not very spacious). Excellent vehicles !. Thanks for the video, I had a lot of fun. Greetings from Chile!
Yes, one of the best 323's (BG) ever built. I have a 1990 1.8i manual since new. Has a lot of room (especially in the back). The only fault is a lack of low down torque and the high gearing only exacerbates this. Otherwise, a brilliant car!
In malaysia this car very popular early 90s because WHEN GOT FORD GOT MAZDA AND WHEN GOT MAZDA GOT FORD ...! * THE MAZDA POPULAR WITH THE FAMILIA AND FORD WITH LYNX ...! I DROVE THIS CAR IN 1988 TO 1992 BEFOFE I CONVERT TO HONDA , THEN OPEL FRONTERA , THEN BMW , THEN VOLVO 940 TURBO UNTIL NOW OSO GOT MITSUBISHI EVOLUTION AND TOYOTA ESTIMA ...NOW 61 YEARS OF AGE , MOST OF THE TIME MY CHILDRENS WILL DROVE IT FOR ME ..., SOO SWEET N NICE MEMORY ...! regards from kuala lumpur and to flexiny at estonia ...
Love from Hiroshima Japan, the home ground of Mazda! We hardly see any Familia (how we call it instead of 323 or Protégé) these days even around here. I always loved the neat styling of them as a kid.
These were quite popular in Canada. My old room-mate owned one. Her car was the very rare turbocharged GT model as well. Sadly the rust bugs found it very delicious and it rotted away like pretty much all Mazdas around here...
It's fascinating to see what happens to a car when it sits for several years. Good 'ol Mazda, amazing it was able to start after that long. My dad had a 626 that racked up over 340,000 miles before it was t-boned and totaled. And I have a 2000 Miata with 185,500 miles on the clock, still running strong after I got it at 159k.
Im pretty sure the miata uses the same engine as the car in the video, i also have a NA miata from 1989 and its still going strong with 143k miles on the clock 32 y old :D
@@DMGMediaEdits ohhhh true, didnt even realize, but that would mean taht it saw even less stress than my engine would? because less air and less exahsut means less power meaning elss heat and maybe less wear? 🤔😂
Nice video! I hope you could rescuing more forgotten cars like this 323. My friend already bought one this week and it was very nice to drive!! It's much like a European cars rather than Japanese cars in terms of driving. No wonder Germany is one of the Mazda's biggest European market
I still own one of these! Mine’s the face lifted version post ‘92 and I’ve had it for over 4 years now. It’s comforting to see all the comments here tell how reliable they are, and mine has been too. Edit: I imagine the donor car could also be a Ford Laser because the cars only differ in body type and some interior elements.
Yeah the Ford laser uses the the Mazda chassis engine , suspension ,brakes only thing is that the body doesn't look the same but the wind shield surprringly is the same , I have one a 1994 Mazda 323 I change the engine to the inj out of a 1997 Mazda familia it's a fun and easy car to learn and understand a good first car
Wife bought a 1991 new when we first started dating….we sold it I think back in 2009 and it was still running strong….only weakness was brakes and the rubber boots would wear out quick on the axles, causing dirt to get into the axles causing damage. Mazdas are very good quality, highly reliable cars
@@leftlanegaming530 it's the MX5 that mostly has that issue, not so much Mazda 6 and CX5. My mum had Mazda 6 2017 and it's an amazing car, better interior than most BMW's I've been in if you get it in sport nav trim. I'd still go ahead with the Mazda 6 and CX5, just make sure to check the sills before buying.
Cool, my first car was a 323 like this 1 but a hatchback glx. Same 1.3 liter engine, no power steering but a roof window was there. 😎👍 Was a good little car
Old tech is amazing!!! Do that with a new car.. after 4 years its done. I have an Civic EJ9 ... the best low hp car i have ever driven. Even 90-100 Hp feel really nice and fast. And its sooo easy to repair things myself.
for a 33year old car she not in that bad of shape, she looks really good concidering her age,i tell you the cars of today meaning 2022 would be lucky to make it 33years and still look this good thanks for sharing the video, i havent seen one of these cars over here in farnworth bolton england for many years, but i do remember seeing , them about over here and they was in really bad shape thats why i am amazed that yours looks in pretty great shape for her age.
These Mazda BG's were crazy reliable back in the day. They rusted away at some point, but the engine never died... never! It really was Mazda's most reliable cars, that came in the 80's and 90's. They were much more reliable than other cars of the era. It was special cars too, in a way. You could always know a Mazda on the sound, and going from a BF to a BG (or the 323F), was like getting the old model painted. They were different on the outside, but driving the car was no different... they were completely the same to drive, even down to the clutchpoint. You instantly felt at home in a BG, coming from a BF - almost like the BG was just a facelift. Oh, btw... overheating one of these, is a big no-no. It will warp the head faster than saying "oops". Lucky thing, most of them never had that problem.
A fluid drain and check and maybe an engine inspection of the pistons, rings, and spark plugs and this car's back on the road in good condition again in no time!
It is a gift to see such a car Japanese taken pictures of this car in the USA on the coast when they take a trip was really cool 😎. To see someone elses like this makes me really sad... That's messed up on the neglect this one got. The Mazda we got just like this one SoHc went easy 7000 rpm and is freaking fun this one's due for a rebuild and it's definitely worth it in every way for a family car. If you had the time for the engine the power band is awesome on a good running 1.8L BP SoHc engine but to buy new cams might be impossible if you wanted to change them from wear.
The replacement one? That’s just how they sounded normally. Many of my friends had BG Familia/323, one even had a rare GT-R Familia. They were a very popular car here in NZ in the late 90’s and early 00’s.
Ülilahe video! Vaatasin, et päris palju ilusaid BMW-si seisab sul hoovi peal! Need vääriksid pikemas perspektiivis kindlasti mingit katusealust vähemalt.🙂 Igatahes...keep up the good work!😎👍
Very nice video, had myself a 1990 Mazda 323 1,6-16valve GLX sedan with carb engine. Mine was met. light blue colour and had much more km in the clock than this :D When I recycled the car in 2008 for multiple problems, it had over 350.000 km on the clock. Mine was the Finnish spec car, so it had headlight washers and exterior mirrors were body coloured, other than that, looks the same spec as your red one.
These projects seem simple but take a lot of moneyin the long run. -4 new injectors $100 - 1 new fuel pump $65 Fuel tank rusk inhibitor $ 11 Oil and filter $35 New tires $ 350 Transmission oil and filter $35 Micelaneus wiring $30 1 can wd-40 $5 Winshield wipers $25 Brake fluid pads and rotors $130 list goes on
Fixed the slave cylinder with a hammer. Made me laugh. I’ve got one of these but it’s automatic. Most reliable little car I’ve ever owned. Everything still works on it. Every switch and button
It was painful hearing and watching that engine try to turn over after all that time with those first 2 batteries. There is nothing worse than a weak battery. It started nice and fast with the power from that 3rd battery. 3rd time is the charm.
i had one of these for a few months a few years ago , bought it for £250 ! the electricals were a bit dodgy and the clutch slipped but other than that it was a great car ! was like sitting in an arm chair compared to my e30 bmw that was waiting to get on the road . sold it a couple months later for £1000 , kinda wish i didnt thinking about how rare they are
you might also wana check the little hole at the radator cap that goes to you overflow mine was blocked and since then my engine been running sweet as i havent need to top up the water and oil. i own a 93 ford laser xl 16 valve 1.6 carbed didnt run right when i got i had replaces the maCAINICAL FUEL PUMP AND FILTER and gave the carb a clean and tune. Now starts no worries and it pulls.
22:55 that sound from engine that knocking, its like preignition detonations sound? I have that sound on my car at summer when is hot and im going uphill or accelerating...engine is perfect and mechanicks told me its because of low octane, bad fuel in my country...and guys do you know, i changed clutch kit and now i have small vibrations on my front wheels when im starting from first or reverse slowly just by releasing clutch pedal...what can be issue for this problem?
