It's amazing to see that old bird kick up. Awesome. What is the value of a bike like that? I have never seen one like it and have no idea what it is worth. Just wondering.

Legend has it the last guy is still trying to start this bike.

Bike had a top speed of 85 mph... imagine growing up around horse and carriage and the early automobiles that couldn’t even touch such a speed and then this Pedal bike with a v-twin strapped to it and all of sudden it takes you to 85 mph. What a time that must’ve been seeing as how most cars & bikes nowadays exceed 140mph with ease.

Full choke, pump that throttle like Stormy Daniels on a Billionaire. Harley's reliability has not changed in 100 years.

There is a reason those bikes have compression relief use it.

and this is why it had never been started since 1915 when it was found abandoned on the side of the road full of dents and a pile rocks and a broken tree branch next to it

Its amazing how people trash Harley, when really if you just actually fix whatever problems you have and maintain the bike it will run as well as every other bike. Its a machine and like every machine it needs to be taken care of in order to work properly.

Things were pretty tough back in the days, 3 guys just to start bike oh geez.

"It's not that easy" says someone who has not exercised in decades. Have another pork chop and beer there bud.

Somethings not right here. If it was really sat for decades.... who pumped the tyres up? Who put fresh fuel in? If you ever find yourself as custodian of something this hard to replace..... check valves are free, note those little reservoirs on the inlet rockets fir oil. Check theres oil in the gearbox, and it's not solidified grease.... the gearbox bearings will need cleaned out otherwise you'll destroy it. The oil pump is likely stuck. What about dirt and corrosion contaminating the oil tank? This might snap the oil pump drive mechanism. The fuel system will be clogged up. The ignition, at best will be tarnished and points are unlikely to fire. Is the manual advance free? Bearing surfaces will corrode from sitting still, so even if it does fire up, the needle rollers in the big end wont withstand much use. Cast iron rings are fragile, replacements difficult to find. Theres a lot of stuff that can degrade from sitting still that over enthusiastic novices can break.... or... this thing hasn't been sitting for decades, nothing like that long. Real restoration takes skilled men a long time to achieve. Anything that suggests otherwise is, at best, disingenuous.

Don't those engines have compression release? That would make it much easier to spin it over to start it

It's very frustrating watching someone who has no idea trying to start an old bike. He will soon learn the correct settings and the technique, and will start it first time every time. Also we have to bear in mind the time the bike has been standing, and the valves and piston rings will be a bit sticky.

My great grandfather has one of those bikes in his cellar with the original paint on it barely any rust

So it was made in 1915 and no one has started it yet it looks well ridden I think someone is not telling the truth here and it has been stated many times by now

Out of all ov you the oldest man knew what he was on a boute it needs more gas first then less air possibly make sure you got a lot of oil in or it won't last 15 min.

It's got compression. Need to make sure that it's get oil, new fuel all the way through, (tank, line and bowl) clean plugs and air cleaner, make sure that the butterfly is free and (just for fun) maybe a little shot of carb cleaner.

All those vintage harleys must idle on choke a few min before even giving it gas, mines same way, let it set after it starts, warm up remove choke and good to go

I had a 73 xlch Sportster that was difficult to kick start. Not so much yhe kicking but the number of kicks. If it wasnt for that the bike was beautiful fast, bad awesome, and way cool. Even if it had fourspeed trans and shifter on the right side.
