Welcome back, dads! Today, I want to dive into a topic that’s been weighing on me-how to find more time for family while still providing financially. Like many of you, I’ve been struggling with the demands of a 9-to-5 job, the endless to-do lists at home, and the desire to spend more quality time with my family. It’s exhausting to feel torn between work and family, constantly having to make tough choices, like postponing a camping trip because work obligations get in the way.
This frustration led me to a crucial realization: if something in life is bothering me, I either need to accept it or change it. And I’ve decided that it’s time for a change.
Why I’m Starting Startup for Dads
As I prepare to become a dad myself, I’m more determined than ever to strike a better balance between work and family life. This desire has fueled the creation of Startup for Dads. My goal is to build a business that fits the unique challenges we dads face-giving us more financial stability and freedom while allowing us to spend the time we want with our families.
What a Dad-Friendly Business Looks Like
To achieve this balance, we need to focus on a few key criteria when choosing a business model:
Family-Friendly Flexibility: The business must allow us to prioritize family time. A business that requires constant availability or round-the-clock attention won’t work for dads who want to be present for their families.
Stable and Secure Income: The business should provide a reliable income without the risk of financial instability. We need to maintain our 9-to-5 jobs initially to ensure our families are provided for as we build our businesses on the side.
Scalability and Independence from Time: Ideally, the business should generate income without being directly tied to the hours we put in. For example, service-based businesses often require time for each client, limiting how much we can earn based on the time available. We need to find models where income can grow independently of our time investment.
My Personal Journey
This year, and in the years to come, I’m committed to building a business that allows me to put my family first. My ultimate goal is to have the freedom to decide how I spend my time. If I want to take my kids camping on a Friday, I want to be able to do that without worrying about work. I don’t want to keep postponing valuable family time because of work obligations.
This blog and channel will document my journey as I figure out how to achieve this balance. It will focus on two main themes: time and money-how to manage both effectively to build a business that supports our roles as dads.
