It looks like a BR class 150 with a blue pullman livery sounds like the best thing I've ever heard and overall I would score it 💯/💯

However, Blue Pullman seating and comfort they were not, the same moulded low back seating as the southern region class 455 and the 313,314,315,507 and 508 had when new.

Well, the train was based on a Class 150 with a few upgrades (most notably the motor car with the door arrangement and the engine).

This railway is the only Heritage line in Northern Ireland. I'd love to see some units from the Ulster Transport Museum brought back to life and brought here! These units were running to Larne up until very recently.

Why does the engine rev up and down like that?

Why did they idle like this, with the revs going up and down?
@fluxington
@fluxington 3 года назад
A good question. Surely someone would suggest any other engine doing this would be 'hunting'. You can even see the throttle/idle mechanism moving, that causes this rhythmic cycle!
@Martindyna
@Martindyna 2 года назад
The governor on these units is almost always over sensitive which causes over correction most of the time (hunting) which is even worse when cold (something to do with the cold lubrication oil which is associated with the governor operation if i remember correctly). The over sensitivity of the governor is also responsible for the sometimes large puff of black smoke when departing on some units (Turbo lag); it would be much less evident with a properly adjusted governor sensitivity (proportional band), perhaps it's not adjustable on these units, I don't know. The Class 37 EE engines also have over sensitive governors, making the Class seem rather cross & aggressive while notching up.

Same basic English Electric 4 cylinder unit, difference being that the 80 class units had the engines from new, while the 450 class had the engines second hand from the withdrawn 70 class units they replaced.

@SiVlog1989 3 года назад
@@rowanNClangley cool, when I first heard the sound of those English Electric diesel engines I thought they sounded like BR class 205 DEMU units, it's possible they may have had the same engines powering them, but I'm not 100% sure
@rowanNClangley
@rowanNClangley 3 года назад
@@SiVlog1989 I think they are all thesame series 4RKT from memory, with the detail changes as a series progresses - the 205 units being early 1960 design, the engines for the 70 class which were re-used in the 455 class were mid sixties and the 80 class engines were new mid seveties, possibly towards the end of the production life of English Electric engines of that series - the contemproary class 56 engines were under the Rustom=n name, though they were in the same lineage which began with the LMS twwins of 1948, powered the class 40 as the 16SVT of 2000 HP, uprated again to 2700 HP for DP2 and the subsequent class 50, and uprated again to 3200 HP for the class 56.
