It's time to fire up the outdoor wood boiler. Once I start this fire it will burn for the next 8 months.

Try looking into buffer tanks. Your boiler will run much more efficient and you store heat in the buffer tank for when you are not home. It will also minimize creosote buildup.
@markc4614

I insulated the pex pipes inside the house saves a lot on firewood. Keeps the heat in the pipes and the basement doesn't get too hot. Used the refrigerat pipe insulation from the big box store, just slides on.

Make sure you know how to build and maintain your boiler system on your own. If boilers aren't popular in your area it will cost you a fortune to install and maintain one!

Use a CSL log (chimney sweeping log) they really do work for the creosote build up, you can burn a couple with the wood that’s in there or by themselves, they’ll dry out the creosote and it’ll start falling right off, again they really do work but try for yourself will see for yourself, the ones I get are called CSL and gave a picture of a chimney sweep on the box sold in singles All The Best Fabrizio

Been resisting firing up the stove here on the east coast. Been in 40s overnight and 60s during the day. Just enough solar heating to keep the house above 70 inside but it's slowly dropping. I think by this weekend we'll be forced to start lighting an evening or morning fire. My tree service connect just dropped a cord plus of red oak logs for 2025. I have 6+ cord of maple but very limited oak supply (maybe 1.5 cord if I'm optimistic) for this year.

We came home to a fire in our insert. The boys started our first fire of the year. Besides the one this summer to drive the bats out of the chimney. Another great show. Made it another weekend without actually getting kicked out of the hotel. Maybe next year 😂.

Thanks Dan. I started mine on Sunday. I only run My water temp 145/155. Plenty hot for in-floor and Domestic Water. My Domestic Hot Water heat exchanger is near the FLoor, picks up the cool water from the Bottom of the Tank. and with thermal Syphoning it recirculates back to the top. only need the pump for the initial start then it is off for the rest of the season. It also goes through a hot water rated Filter before the Flat plate to keep the junk from the Tank from plugging the narrow passages of the Flat plate. My Vote is about the 10th of November. Mike M.

How many underground feet of pipe did you have to run from the house to the boiler? It would be interesting to see a heat loss per every 20ft or what ever could be calculated done in a video. There has to be info on this somewhere. When I had mine, my underground lines were over 200’

We had an Aquatherm 345 to heat 2 2200 sq ft' homes plumb directly into the boilers with 2" insulated pex pipe. Aqua Term are a pressurized system. No need to check water inside boilers keep the system full. I found it easier to burn 4' long ice storm damage mostly pine and soft maple. No time splitting at all. 4' round wood gave longer burn times!

@@bullofthewoods9374 so how about the rain deer hides? Use those too in NC? If we have 10 nights below freezing during any winter it was rough one. But I did see that this coming winter will be cold and very wet for south Louisiana so maybe I’ll have to break out some skins for those cold boat rides through the swamp. 🥶
@bullofthewoods9374
@bullofthewoods9374 11 месяцев назад
not sure what you mean. just saying 8 months of cold is not for me. we have many nights below freezing in nc. where do you live. also if i had natural gas i wouldnt bother with a boiler at all. here in nc i can buy a cord of wood for under 200 bucks. natural gas is cheap but propane is not. I heat 3100 sq ft and was using 1200 gal of propane when it was 85 cent a gal. now its 2.39. and i was burning an insert. the boiler paid for itself in 3 years and now saves me a ton of money while i have warm house. i now use about 250 gal of propane a year since im also gas water heater and dryer and cook top. boilers are not for everyone. you have to weigh out the work and the cost. it has been great for me
@saltrock9642
@saltrock9642 11 месяцев назад
@@bullofthewoods9374 the reindeer hide was a shot at someone else, he he. I live in a 1800 sqft log cabin that’s nicely insulated for south Louisiana where the climate is more tropical so winters are somewhat mild. Temps below 20 and snow come every few years so it’s not feasible for anyone here to have boiler system which is why didn’t know of their existence. Not uncommon to have on shorts and tee shirts for Christmas and New Years. My forced ventilation fireplace heats the house plenty even when it does get cold so propane usage is minimal. We have a rare October temperature wise because it been in the 40’s 4 times. Making up for the 75 days of 100 plus temps this pass summer, I guess. I’ll take it but we are still in a bad drought and burn ban which is killing the firewood business.

@Back40Firewood
@Back40Firewood 8 месяцев назад
Yep the blower shuts off and no air is forced into the firebox so it slow burns until the water temp drops to 160....then the blower kicks on until temp hits 170 then shuts off. Cycle just keeps repeating depending how much heat is pulled off the water. I usually burn between 10-12 full cord a year....but that's starting beginning of Oct. and going through end of May. Also keep the house temp at 74 and it heats the hot water.

I've seen a system with one thermostat. The way it works is that when thermostat calls for heat, signal goes to a controller. Controller checks water temperature, if above 90 degrees, it turns fan only in the forced air, if temp ik the water input goes below 90 or was already below 90, controller will call for heat from HVAC. So that way if your boiler stops, it switches to natural gas or propane, if hot water comes back it keeps the fan going but stops gas. And for people in the house, they don't have to think on what thermostat to use.
