We are- a family of four,
Mum- Annie,
Dad-Bruce
Two children Elsie and Betsy
3 dogs - Doug, Pip and Twig
3 Cats - McTat, Ash and Mowgli
2 Pygmy Goats - Treasure and Bell
1 Sheep - Luan
2 Pigs - Copper and Rascal
2 Budgies - Disco and Big Budge
2 Horses - Merlin and Montana
We decided to trade our busy life as home and business owners to chase the dream we’ve harboured for 10years.
How did we get here
After years of saying one day, we finally realised that these opportunities don’t just land in your lap and if we seriously wanted to make a difference to the Earth then we were going to have to stop talking about it and do it!
We sold all our stuff, got rid of the mortgage, sold our camper conversion business and landed in a dream come true. After traveling in our van we settled here in the west of Ireland. A place that has always been special to us. Annie is half Irish and since we met 13 years ago and she took me to meet her family i fell in love with Ireland too.
Now we’ve made this dream a reality there is no stopping us! our plan is to work hard, meet new people and learn new skills that will guide us on our journey of permaculture and creating a way of life that sings to us. One where we aren’t bound to the banks, working every hour and outsourcing all of our needs. A simple way of life, with connection to ourselves, each other, the earth and our community.

The poly tunnel state impressed me so much at this time of year. it is lucky that your neighbors have both the knowledge and motivation to help like this. (andre was travelling and I wasn't allowed to watch until he came back, grumpf) 1000 days on duolingo.. that is one streak I NEVER managed, so impressive

At my parents' place we have a few dwarf apple trees, in an espalier form. I forgot which variety it is, but throughout the summer the trees select their own good apples. Hundreds drop to the floor (good for other wildlife). We ocassionally help along as these trees produce much more then they can bear, even counting the wire supports! They deliver delicious apples. About 25kg a tree. Which for 15 year old trees not higher than 1.6metres is quite good :). They are never sprayed nor fertilised. This is production on very poor sandy soil.

I love watching your lovely family living your dreams. Especially value you showing the realities of day to day life with its ups and downs and the long days and hard involved where sometimes you must feel like giving up but you plod on and get there in the end, one day at a time and each day is a new day. P.s. would absolutely love if Annie and the girls would do some cooking/meal videos and recipes on soups, breads etc. On a regular basis. The soup and bread look so wholesome.

Awesome neighbors! I come from Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley. There are many apple growers here, varied crops, alternative crops. I am getting all fired up to get the garden up and running this spring. With climate change the growing season is slowly lengthening. It's too cold here yet for the poly tunnel thing. I did see someone who converted an old school bus into a green house. Rather cool! 🙂👍👍🇨🇦

Put a loose cover to put around lower bark trunk to protect. You need to write 12 board signs have kids do it for all the different trees and vegetables. Great project for them. And you can use this video to get names and place in your yards. Great videos.

So good to have such helpful friends & neighbors. Tom is amazing with his apple knowledge! I have a bunch of peach trees that do so well here in Maine but I never pruned the branches and I have lost some of the trees because the branches get too long and break. Happy Imbolc. It really looks like the midway point in Ireland.

@@OffGridBruce It is always astonishing to me how much wood you need if that is your only heat source. You can never have enough fire wood. But of cause this old beam is beautiful and has way to much history in it to just burn it.

Hi Bruce I'm from Tyrone and I too have begun to plant my first apple trees. The variety I'm using is beauty of bath x 10! They are supposed to be delicious. Over time ill mix new varieties into the row. I read into it and decided on open centres I hear they need a lot of light for the apples to grow. Tom the guy who helped ya seems to know his stuff.
@OffGridBruce
@OffGridBruce Год назад
I can tell you they are. Tom has them in his orchard. He has over 60 varieties. Good luck with your Orchard. Some of ours have started to Bud already

Lovely to see Annie in front of the camera - more please 📸 😁 Tom was fascinating and so knowledgeable. Are any of the apples good for cooking or are they all “eaters”?
@OffGridBruce
@OffGridBruce Год назад
They are all eating apples but I guess you can still cook with them if you want but they are eat straight from the tree varieties as they don’t keep long. That will be part 2 of the orchard :)

From the man himself Morning Bruce, your trees are semi-drawfing 14ft apart. The vigour of the variety has a lot to do with the height in my experience. The rootstock is MM26.
