Its been a long time coming and it's finally here. We start by finding a location for the soon to be generator building so we can dig the main electrical line and bury our pipe to pull the cable through. Starting with the floor system, we start building the center support pony wall and setting the sill plates. Its an exciting time for us and progress is being made on our off grid Alaskan home.

Ryan, be sure to enjoy every minute you get to have your father with you. He will be gone way before your ready to let him go. What a great opportunity to spend quality time together making memories that will last you a lifetime. What a beautiful paradise you guys are making together. How is Vons neck doing? Did it relieve her pain? I sure hope so. I understand what living in chronic pain is like.

Looking great! I’m watching the vids sequentially; can’t wait to see where you are today!! Kinda shocked you don’t wear eye protection when sawing and nail-gunning, tho. 🤕 My Dad, retired USAF, cabinet maker and wooden boat builder (built his first sailboat with his dad at age 13) taught us kids the importance of eye protection from a young age…. He damn near lost an eye once when a piece of metal he was cutting sent a shard straight into his eyeball. CUE EXCRUCIATING PAIN and a trip to the ER. Not that he could drive himself, either. 😬
@wildwoodoffgridalaska
@wildwoodoffgridalaska 2 года назад
I’m the first to admit I fail miserably at the safety end of things. I’ve always found wearing eye protection annoying when it dogs of us so scratched you can’t see through it. I need to be better for sure. Thanks for watching, hopefully we can get to building this year soon.

Then I read or you said about the ground in Tok . When I was there I stayed at Sourdough camp ground, when winter set in I rented house on campground from Tim & Tracy. Love that area, but job was over. Good luck ! I will continue enjoying and learning from your videos!

@@wildwoodoffgridalaska we have been busy planting gardens, mowing and getting honeybees around. We now have 24 hives and I hope to do some splits in a few soon. We have about 500 meat chickens (Freedom Ranger) that we have in chicken tractors for pasture feeding. I will be butchering part of them in the next couple of weeks. We will finally get to see how good the scalder and plucker work we bought. Always plenty to do. Lol.

That generator building stand pipe a sweep or a ninety degree? It will be a bear pulling cable if it is ninety degree. Easy to change now. Seeing you build makes we want to come and help. That sky is blue when you were drilling plate! That was easy! Did you have 90 degrees in?
@wildwoodoffgridalaska
@wildwoodoffgridalaska 3 года назад
Cable pulled easily into the pipe. I installed a long sweep 90 to make it easier. It’s been hit and miss with weather. Some nice days but a lot of rain and cooler temps this spring. Things should start warming up soon.

@wildwoodoffgridalaska

It’s what was available. I wanted 3” pipe and could find conduit or pvc. It helps that the ABS was pretty cheap and will work fine this purpose.

Man that was some good work fellas. Are those floor joists an engineered I-beam that handles that large of a span? Just curious as to the material strength specs if you have them, might be a good thing to share. Enjoyed watching this.....hows the finger?
@wildwoodoffgridalaska
@wildwoodoffgridalaska 3 года назад
They are 11 7/8” TJI engineered I-joists that are rated to span 16.9ft. The limited span is the reason for the center support wall. They’re lighter and straighter then traditional lumber and make laying the floor square an easy task😊
@critter9a
@critter9a 3 года назад
ok me being from Texas I'm confused about the subfloor/poneywall concept. does this prevent the water pump from freezing over?
@wildwoodoffgridalaska
@wildwoodoffgridalaska 3 года назад
The pony wall is to support the 30 ft span of the floor joists. We set the pressure tank on the footer as a convenience to have a flat surface to sit it on. 😊
