I don’t recommend the nx8 but I would also not say the plxc is the same as the atacr. At the end of the day if it gets the job done for you, keep rocking it. Its your setup not someone else’s
I honestly love the nx8 on 14.5s and below if it’s got the newer reticle and an offset dot on top. The glass is awesome and I love the reticle/brightness. It gets lots of hate but it’s still my favorite LPVO
There are budget friendly options that are solid choices. The plxc is not one of them. Decent glass - yes Solid build - yes Absolutely trash reticle - yes
Thanks Jimmy I found your channel last summer when I was waiting for my 18" bartlien barrel to do exactly what your channel is all about. The only criticism I have of you, actually my wife's is costing me money by inspiring me to get some gear I didn't know I needed. Also for leading me to train with Joe last year, and later this year, and being a part of the reason I found my passion for precision shooting and scoped carbine.
I've got my SPR running just the way I want- soft shooting, 18" barrel with rifle length gas and amazing, consistent sub MOA accuracy.... the only thing I want to rethink is the scope. My SPR is actually my go to gun if I had to bugout, leave on foot, only grab 1 gun and ammo (otherwise, if its homestead defense (not home defense), I'm grabbing my AR-10). Ive also got a great 16" upper, but, I'll take the 18" in SHTF.... My SPR has a match grade heavy fluted barrel weighing almost 2 lbs, so its a tad heavy, but I like the consistent accuracy that comes with the weight.... and the extra velocity... All that being said, I want this gun to be able to identify threats out to 500 yards and make precise shots out to 400 plus yards... and i definitely need to handle surprise close encounters if necessary (15 yards in or so). Ive got the plx-c 1-8 in my cart, and I'm so close to buying it.... But, Ive already got a good red dot on an offset Arisaka and I'm contemplating using that with a quality 4x16.... My gut tells me to go with the 1x8, but, I really appreciate the magnification of a 4x16.... a 2-10 , to me , is an unflattering compromise. Can the 1x8 give me the magnification and precision i want out to 400 - 500 yards??
Precision will be a combo of shooter, gun, ammo, and optic. The 1-8x plx-c has the clarity and could have enough magnification, it just depends on you, gun and ammo at that point. A 2-10 is meant to be a good compromise, but could be ideal for your requirements especially with your rds for 1x. But magnification is king for pid, I would say see if you can find some optics to look through at a shop or range. Also, magnification can make up for some lower clarity glass. There are people who rave about primary arms glx 2.5-10x and shoot those out quite the distance.
I recently bought a Leupold MK4HD 6-24 for a 20” .308 bolt gun and I love it! I think eventually I’ll build a precision 5.56 gas gun or buy the RD rifle and get into this sometime in the future😮💨love the videos Jimmy!
@@alonzokincaid1362 personally for the price I’d get the atacr 1-8 for that price, if it was a 1x low end. I prefer the atacr reticle and the illumination is better. It’s been a while since I’ve looked through a vcog so I don’t have an up to date comparison on image quality.
There is no doing it different. We all kinda learn as we put shit together and run it. Unless you get to run other people's gear. You wont really know what works for you.
@jimmybrodriguez You aren't wrong with anything you said. I was just making the comment. I don't have many friends with gear I actually want. So I can't test there stuff out!
Look at the results that people with issued guns get. If the kit is good it doesn’t have to be perfect. You might not get the last 10% but you’re in the hunt.
The lowers with the ambi bolt release that the Noveske billet lowers have, the FCD/SOLGW collab lowers have, and the PWS MOD 2 lowers have are ALL OEM’d by Zev (formerly Mega Arms).
I have this going on with guys I shoot with right now. They do not have their own why. They use my why to make decisions and they are going down wrong roads doing it because they aren’t willing to fork over the money for good stuff. They keep buying cheaper and then selling and losing money. Has to be your own why!
If i was starting over. IMO Get gun and optice in you budget! Your new, you are not great you dont need top of line gun. Scope i would spend more than you think. 22lr Conversion bolt with few mags. Buy case of 22lr ammo that shoots good. Shot smaller target at a scaled range to work with 22lr, everyone only seems to 200yard range to work with. Fill your sock with range sand if you dont have a bag Kestral is key to getting 1st rounds hits Set up 22lr and 5.56 profile and dial them in.Can also jsut use note pad and keep note Use your phone as a stage timmer Put tape on you gun with the come ups/ down from 22lr to 5.56 this will also tell how well your scope tracks. Great Video
Are a lot of us gonna compete? Nah. Are you gonna ring steel at 1000 a few times a year with your friends? You can. And it’s still a lot of fun. You can shoot small targets a long way if your gun is repeatable and you have a spotter. And plenty of ammo. If you find you have an uncanny ability at it. Maybe then move up
I got a kind of do over recently when i helped a buddy build his first ar. I took him to the range and had him try all my rifles and he liked my 6 arc prs gas gun the most but wanted to stay with 5.56. Griffin mk2 ambi lower, bcm blem upper receiver, cmt arca handguard, bcm mk2 buffer system, microbest chrome bcg, 20" satern liberty223 wylde rifle gas fluted dmr barrel, griffin primo gas block, larue mbt2s, magpul prs lite stock, mkm machining grip, primary arms glx 3-18 scope, griffin gpm mount with piggyback holosun scrs. I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a great rifle for him.
That is an awesome build! 20" 556 is a laser. Iv recently switched to 6arc and really enjoying it. It really gets the maximum performance out of a small frame. And I can more easily spot my hits/misses past 500
@SPR_ACTUAL Thanks, I've been teaching him everything I know about the ar and shooting in general. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get him out to a match with me before too long. I'm loving 6 arc for prs. I just got a 20" proof barrel for my birthday, and I'm taking it out tomorrow for a little break in session. I'm about to start reloading for it and am really looking forward to getting more out of the cartridge. It sure is fun having a cartridge that's competitive with bolt guns.
I’ve been building SPR for about 7-8 years now. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on optics to start out. $300 vortex strike eagle is good enough. Spend the money on barrel and ammo. I also started reloading as a result. What people don’t realized is can’t shoot a target rifle with cheap 55 grains to get the desired groups. I only shoot my hand loads 77grains SMK with cci br4 primer and vitahouvi n140 out of all my SPR with each rifle has its own specific load. Spending too much time chasing accuracy.
I want to add some of my experience. I started with a complete upper from aero with 18 inch non target barrel. Disappointed with the accuracy. Switch out the barrel to a stainless steel 20 inch from BA. Disappointed again. Went with WOA SPR profile barrel. With load development, I can achieve one hole with 5 shot group at 100 yards. I have also tried CHF barrel from FN and DD. Don’t do FN but found 14.5 CHF barrel from dd is very accurate. With drop of 200 in FPS about from my 18 inch WOA. Building a noveske 14.5 ss barrel next. If you don’t have the time and patience. Don’t go into precision shooting.
RRS has a few different kinds of tripods with varying heights. Which one did you get and how did you decide on which height and features was best for you?
Excellent question. I went the the 34L as my primary because the max height works for me. I don’t shoot crazy angles here in Texas so the smaller tripods work for me. If I was in a more mountainous area I’d opt for something taller to accommodate those environments
Thoughts on a 1.7 mount? Having trouble getting my face low enough to see through the scope without mashing my face to the stock. Currently at 1.5” and using a magpul SL.
Took Bruiser’s SC1 and a dude there had a NX8 2.5-20 and I got a chance to look through it. Personally, I felt that the glass in my MK5 seemed crisper and had a better depth of field than the NX8.
I know you’re sponsored by SOLGW but one of my Hodge 14.5” barrels is crazy accurate and shoots on average 40-50fps faster, shooting the same lots of ammo compared to my Criterion core 14.5.
I actually tried one of their barrels out because a buddy recommended it and was getting crazy good performance. Mine did not do as well. After talking with some people working with Hodge, they confirmed that some barrels will give good performance like that but not all. It’s something they’re working on, but the expectation across the board for it should not be a precision barrel. I will say gassing out of them is really good though.
In this list where would you put spotting equipment? (Range finders, spotting scopes, range finding bunks, etc.) primarily for someone who is training solo with low power optics.
You think a 1.70 or should I keep training with the 1.54 mount if I’m not spending all my time in prone and I don’t have enough money for the razor line, but what do you think of the vortex viper PST? 2-10 only shooting between 200-500
What is the padding on the stock? And another question what is the cheek riser for and who makes it? I have been seeing a lot of people start to run those on a spr weapon and im interested in the meaning behind it.
PA is definitely a great brand. My $300 PA 4-14x has been great for learning. That being said, it’s hard to compare PA to NF in terms of turret tracking, image quality throughout the magnification range and most importantly, absolute durability.
As stated here, the overall durability, tracking and glass quality is superior. Like I said I wouldn’t say PA is bad but i don’t think it will perform as well in adverse conditions nor sustained abuse over time. But if it works for you that’s all that matters.
@@jimmybrodriguez @aerowrench6787 I think these are just super subjective statements. You are comparing a $300 optic to far more expensive options. Im no shill, but the plxc is a far more impressive option compared to an equivalent optic like an atacr 1-8. There are certainly pros and cons to everything but to call something like that a "plinking option" is kind of laughable
@@nabby119 I wasn’t comparing them just answer the questions asked. As I also said if it works for you or anyone for your specific goals then what does it matter what anyone else thinks or says?
With the ambidextrous lower, are you able to lock the bolt to the rear from the right side to clear malfunctions? or is that Only two send the bolt for during a reload?
You constantly drop names in this video almost like you're needing it for validation. Its hard taking advice from influencers because most just push sponsored products and than when get dropped they push something else. Your track recorded specially isn't the greatest.
@@ozzy_david I can’t tell you my favorite restaurant or worst without using the name. Using brand names is necessary to guide people in the right direction otherwise it’s just like yelling “hey” at a crowd. I give options in this video outside of the brands I work with intentionally, also no where do I say you have get X brand thing. I also push people to specific instructors like I mention in this video as well, but I’m not sponsored by them. I’m just genuinely trying to help people based off my experience. I get this may not be for you and that’s cool maybe some other content down the road will help you. And the whole track record thing stems from people having misconceptions about sponsorships. A lot people believe I was sponsored by companies that I wasn’t, but was actually spending money on products that worked for me. I know it’s a novel idea but the internet believes what it wants. I’ve always clearly put in every video who I work with to avoid confusion and I’m legally obligated to.
Ozzy David, With all due respect man I believe you are missing the point of this video. I cannot tell you over the years how much stuff I have purchased and then gotten rid of. Somethings I immediately regretted literally after taking it out of the box. Somethings I found over time just didn't work for me. It cumutively costs thousands of dollars to find out what works over time. Jimmy is just giving his advice on what he has found out what works best for him. It's not a commercial.
if you get paid from companies to shill gear, then your opinion on gear doesnt exist. Youre not trying to save us money youre trying to get us to spend it with whoever sponsors you.
You might have missed it but I recommend a variety of brands even competitors to my sponsors to give you good options across the board, except for the kestrel because it’s the only option in that corner of the market.
